Heading west brings us into the hood known as New Springville. It goes from Rockland Ave, with Travis Ave, to the Staten Island Expwy (I-278) between Victory Blvd and Bradley Ave, with Brielle Ave. This hood is mostly residential. Originally, it was mostly rural with a brook that flowed through the willows giving it the name Willowbrook. In 1680, it was settled as Karle's Neck Village. In the 1770's, American troops were known to hide through the swamp, which is now Willowbrook Pk, to get away from the British durring the American Revolution. Around the early 1800's, the name was changed to Springville, and later on as New Springville. In 1902, the NY Farm Colony was established as a rehab for the mentally ill and impoverished until everyone had moved out in 1975. Most developement came in 1964, and New Springville remained very rural until then. In 1993, the College of Staten Island decided to move here on the site where a school once stood. New Springville has gotten a number of commercial property as of being a major transportation hub for buses. You can get here by taking the S44, S59, S61, S62, S91, S93, S93, S94, X10, X11, X17, and X31 buses. Here is what you will find in New Springville.
