obviously a copy of burj dubai hotel in dubai

Oh here we go again. This has been said like 20 times in this thread now. If you don't have anything valuable to contribute to this thread then get out.

I don't wanna see anymore reference to the Burj Al Arab in this or it will have consequences understand?

I did...still not cookie cutter to me. Each tower is a different shape and height. Yeah the colors and claddings aren't extremely exciting, but there are many worse looking cities out there.

When I think of cookie cutter I think of the "Communist block" look.

Same colors and claddings make it look cookie cutter too. There are two different descriptions that most people usually think of cookie cutter... Building look similar and same colors. For example, look at Vancouver, B.C. skyline, most people consider that cookie cutter even all buildings are different but same colors and designs.

I don't think you've looked at any pics of the Panama skyline, it's not like Vancouver, every single building is different, there's really few buildings that you could say 'these two look alike',(unless youre looking at sets of twin towers which there are quite a few around the city), you can argue that the designs aren't the best, that the materials aren't the best, the planning, etc.. but to say all buildings are the same is pretty retarded, sorry.

You probably have no idea what real commieblocks look like. So Miami is a cookie cutter skyline too? Such bullshit. I would agree if you said it's the new version of commieblocks which are way better looking but this is just condo style building. It's all condo's and balconies.

Never been in Panama, but that area reminds me of Manhattan in New York, nice density, just wish there was more variety in designs, looks like most buildings resemble one another in some way, either by design, colors used, and/or arquitecture, however, there are lots of new projects that will help change that!!! :)

its because most of the buildings in the coast line are residentials, So they must have balcony, check the 50 St area, or East Coast, there are the offices buildings.

Donald Trump Goes on an Adventure in Panama.
_________________________________________________________________

A rendering of the Trump Ocean Club adorns a fence on the site of the project in Panama City, Panama.

Susana Gonzalez / Getty

Donald Trump has never been accused of subtlety. So there is nothing retiring about the celebrity real-estate magnate's venture into Panama. His 70-floor sail-shaped Trump Ocean Club, under construction in Panama City's exclusive Punta Pacifica district, will be the largest and most expensive building ever built south of the Rio Grande. "Nothing like this has ever been attempted in Latin America," says head developer Roger Khafif, whose K Group construction firm is handling the $400 million project. "When you think of Sydney you think of the Opera House, when think of Paris you think of the Eiffel Tower, and when you think of Panama, you are going to think of this building."

The 1,080-unit building's construction has now reached the 62nd floor and is scheduled to be inaugurated by the end of the year, complete with luxury condos, a five-star hotel, six restaurants, a Las Vegas-style casino and a private yacht club on the nearby Isla Saboga. The project is 10-to-20 times more expensive than that of any other skyscraper in Panama City. It will be 20% bigger than the AOL-Time Warner building in New York City, Khafif says.

Khafif says Trump's name will help the country's image makeover. "Before it was Panama and Noriega," he explains, referring to Manuel Noriega, the notorious general who ruled the country from 1983 to 1989. "But now it will be Panama and Trump." Or at least he hopes so. "We bet $400 million on it," Khafif says. (From TIME's Archives: The Fall of Manuel Noriega.)

If Khafif sounds proprietary about something with Trump's name on it, it's because the project was his idea in the first place. When the Colombian-born developer came up with the plans for the building in 2005, amid Panama City's real-estate explosion, he realized it was too big to be financed without a major-league brand name. Khafif knew that Trump had been in Panama in 2003 for the Miss Universe Pageant, so he asked a mutual friend to set up a meeting in New York. "I know the guy has an ego and likes pretty things and, boom, Panama is exploding. So baby, if there's any right time, this is the right time," Khafif recalls, explaining the spirit in which he approached Trump. (See pictures of Trump and others most likely to succeed.)

The meeting happened in 2005 and Khafif said he was surprised to learn how much homework Trump had done beforehand. "He had done a lot of due diligence. That's what let me walk through that door; it's not easy to walk through that door," Khafif says. Trump "already knew that the country was booming," but "hates to fly or leave the country." The day after the meeting, Khafif said he received an early morning phone call. "I hear a voice that sounded like Trump, but I thought it was friend who can imitate voices. Two minutes later I realized I was talking to the real thing and I had to apologize," admitted Khafif, who speaks in a quick and seamless flow between Spanish and English, oftentimes switching languages several times in the same sentence. Trump, perhaps accustomed to telling people it's him and not an impersonator on the phone, told Roger, "I love it and I am going to send Ivanka down."

Ivanka is Trump's daughter by his ex-wife Ivana. The young woman is now the company's executive vice president of development & acquisitions, and keen on bringing a more global vision to the family business. The next week, Ivanka visited Panama City and liked what she saw. "Panama is a spectacular, thriving country, changing by the day," Ivanka told TIME in an email. "It's been amazing for me to see the growth of Panama City first hand." "She's a very intelligent young woman," Khafif says. "Sometimes I think she's even smarter than her dad about certain things." The contract was signed and the project was launched in New York City in 2006 — the same day authorities back in the Latin American nation announced a dramatic $5.2 billion expansion of the Panama Canal. (See a multi-media presentation of Panama's vote on expanding its historic canal.)

More expensive than Miami real estate and priced three-to-eight times higher than property in the rest of the Panamanian market, the Trump Ocean Club is partially financed by a $230 million bond offering from Bear Sterns. That bond is now being handled by JP Morgan following the collapse of Bear Sterns in the 2008 global financial crisis. "Without Trump, we would have lost our shirt," Khafif admits. Since then, more than 2,000 construction workers add a new floor each week, silencing many of the earlier skeptics who claimed the project would never get off the ground.

It is a nice looking building and is good for Panama. Great!

But Trump just licenses his name and sells it. His other projects, like Mexico,Chicago, Las Vegas and florida are all busted.

Trump has left many investors high and dry. His casinoes in Atlantic City are bankrupt.

The guy is a scam artist.

I personally think the first design for this building was much, much better than the current one. For whatever reason, they decided to divide the building's facade into four quadrants, which totally ruined it for me. The first design had no horizontal or vertical concrete lines criss-crossing like the current one.

The TOC is going to be an icon for Panama City along with the Canal and the new Biodiversity Museum by Frank Gehrig. It is so recognizable that people will associate this image to the city and that is one of the many benefits that this building is bringing to the skyline. Also, to be a host city for a Trump investments is considered or perceived as a major recognition to the economic stability which is one of the reasons Panama is growing so fast.

This building is fantastic. 9.5/10. It should be in the spot the Point is though in my opinion. The current location looks forced and hides the sheer scale of this massive building. And they should demolish that suburban villa and turn it into a central park or something nice like that.

I agree. Way to go Panama. I'll be visiting this amazing city this winter. I will surely take pics of the skyline from my own perspective. When do you think will the Biodiversity Museum be completed?

I hate to burst your bubble about Trump, you must be one of his fans. Trumps resorts in Baja Mexico never got out of the ground and the investors lost all of their deposits. The Trump Las Vegas was a huge bust with only a couple of condos sold out of the whole building and they sale for less than 1/3 original price. These are two examples out of many. Please name any success stories that come to you.

The TOC units are listed on Craigs List for $220,000, which is a huge discount from the original price.

Iconic, the structure will be, but not because of Trump-in spite of him.

Still is a sign of the economic stability, and example of this is the grade of investment Fitch has given to Panama recently, so even if this building is empty, which I personally doubt it will be, it will still be an icon of the stability the country has at this moment, and hopefully will help attract more projects of this magnitude or bigger in the near future.

This is a Trump building. For Panama standards, i'm sure it will be of great quality and will be very elegant. It may not be "Burj Al Arab" opulent but it will be iconic in its own right and will look classy at the same time.

I don't think we should give a guy who tends to only have about 10-15% invested into the projects he's involved in the builder.

And yes, it is Burj al Arab's ugly brother.

U.S. tycoon Donald Trump on Wednesday opened its first Latin American hotel, a 70-story luxury resort on the Pacific in Panama City, which is also the tallest building in Latin America.

The navigation sail-shaped building, 284 meters high, a resort and residential building, is another addition to the real estate boom in Panama, where Trump recently provoked the ire of politicians by declaring that the United States gave "stupidly "the country's inter-oceanic canal.

The 'Trump Ocean Club International Hotel & Tower "reflects" the modern sensibility of the new generation of luxury travel, "the company said in an invitation to the inauguration of the resort, where the cheapest room costs $ 300 per night, homes are sold from 250,000 to one million dollars.

With an investment of over $ 400 million, the building designed by the Colombian firm Arias Serna Saravia architects, has 47 suites, 37 elevators, spa, pools, marina, casino, shops, restaurants, boutiques and an island with private beach .

It also has a terrace of 900 square meters with an oceanfront pool, personalized butler service and a convention center of 4,200 square meters, "Trump Ocean Club is the first project outside the United States," said Eric Trump, son of magnate, during a visit made to reporters recently.

Trump chain has hotels in cities like New York, Chicago and Las Vegas and is currently building one in Toronto (Canada) A thousand people work in the resort of Panama City, where celebrity, and other wealthy have acquired almost all of its residences, according to press reports, because the company keeps total reservation on this point.

The housing boom has turned the capital of Panama in a "mini Dubai", the main city of United Arab Emirates, a wealthy Persian Gulf country that is famous for its skyscrapers and monumental buildings.

With this new tower, Panama will be the three tallest buildings in Latin America, as well as the Trump tower with the building 'The Point', a skyscraper of 67 floors and 266 meters high, and the 'Ocean Two ', 20 meters lower, both opened earlier this year.

For seven years, "Torre Mayor" of Mexico City was the tallest building in the region (225 meters). Currently, the world's tallest building is the 'Burj Dubai' in Dubai, 828 meters (163 floors), opened in 2010.

The hotel is an advance for the Trump family in the Latin American market. "It is our first step in the Latin American market, which we believe will be a very important market and strong for us in the future," Donald Trump Jr. recently said.

Go on one of the Panama forums and read how unhappy the owners of the condos are with the whole deal. Trump just marketed his name and doesnt own and did not build the project-just like he always does.

^^The entire building is not yet finished, they just opened the hotel, but the building lacks a lot of work yet.Okay, adding a spire on top might not be a problem (maybe with heli), but constructing a 50-level glass atrium with on-going operation at the hotel? Sounds like big discounts for residents.

A propos spire: has this feature been skipped? Some renders don't show it, and Dr Drums posting (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=80984092&postcount=419) mentions a height of 284m - same for CTBUH (http://buildingdb.ctbuh.org/building.php?building_id=562), nothing about 293m... does that spire make the difference? On the other hand, a 9 meter spire would be ridicoulouly small for this massive building...

According to the official info about the height of the building, is by adding the spire that it reaches the final height of 293m , the spire was brought from Hong Kong and has recently arrived to Panama, it will be put into place very soon, the hotel is only the base portion of the building, so construction up there doesn't affect the guests at all, soon they will open the entire building.

De hoy 29 de diciembre de 2011This is very remarkable. An almost 300 meter tall building, with just some villas as neigbours?? Which are even blocking the way to the sea... Are there any plans to develop these locations as well?

btw: This area deserves a boulevard, so the guests of the Ocean Club can enjoy an evening stroll along the sea.

Agree with you, the location is not the best one, and Punta Pacifica has had bad planning since the beginning of it's development, houses next to tall buildings just isn't right.
