Heading south brings us into the hood known as Midland Beach. It goes from New Dorp La to Jefferson Ave between Hylan Blvd and The Narrows. This hood is mostly residential. Originally, it was first settled by the Dutch in the early 1600's as part of Oude Dorp, which meant Old Town in Dutch. In the 1800's a resort was built giving the area its name as Midland Beach that was complete with bungalows. Around the start of the 1900's, a number of Irish immigrants came here. However, many of them have been replaced by Puerto Ricans. Midland Beach doesn't have much to see and is like a lot of places by a beach. You can get here by taking the S51, S76, S78, S79, S81, X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, X7, X8, and X9 buses. Here is what you will find in Midland Beach.
