Heading west brings us into the hood known as Grant City. It goes from Locust to Jefferson Aves between Richmond Rd and Hylan Blvd. This hood is mostly residential. Originally, it was first settled by the French and was known as Frenchtown in the early 1600's. In 1678, Abraham Lakemen built his farmhouse and owned much of the land. In 1682, the English had acquirred the land after taking over the colony. In 1863, there were a number of draft riots in opposition to joining the US Civil War. As a result, the name was changed to Grant City after Ulysses S Grant as well as renaming a bunch of streets after known politicians that were mainly Republican. In the 1880's, B&O RR had built the SIRT to travel through here. Most developement came in the 1950's when family homes were being built. The construction of the Verrazano-Narrows Br allowed for even more developement. Much of the people living here today are Italian, though mainly more conservative. You can get here by taking the SIR to the Jefferson Ave and Grant City Stations. Here is what you will find in Grant City.
