View Full Version : One Williams Center , Tulsa

Caledon1981
October 9th, 2002, 08:12 AM
Height: 203m (667 ft)
52 floors
Architect: Minoru Yamasaki
Completed: 1976

At 203 meter and 52 stories, this skyscraper is Oklahoma's tallest building. Like Yamasaki's other skyscrapers (his most famous being the World Trade Center Towers), the shaft seems even taller by the use of repetitive fenestration and vertical emphasis. Still the base adds variety.

Not bad, though I don't particulary like it either. A bit plain.

It may resemble the WTC, but is no where near as impressive.
2 things made it great for the WTC

a) Immense height
b) there were 2 of them

I agree with RafflesCity. Nothing special about this. 6/10

This is half of one of the WTC towers, with neither of the good points of the WTC like RafflesCity says. Without them, it's just a box.

7/10...The building might not be an "attention grabber" but it's functional, adds some balance to the skyline and keeps it organized and consistent.

6/10. Williams Center is a total box. Other than that it makes a mid-size city skyline one of the best in Tulsa. And puts Oklahoma City's skyline to shame because theirs sucks.

I actually like it for several reasons so I'll give it a 7. I'm a minimalist and like the slick lines. It's boxie looking (another minimalist characteristic) and that was the era anyway for this type of building (70's), and it might have been built for more than just offices because it looks like there's retail at the base. It definitly adds to the Tulsa skyline, especially at night, and will be there for several years which will help on a residential core, if Tulsa hasn't already started one. Might of been an urban renewal project, but I'm just guessing here.

Kind of like a mini-WTC.

I like how the small, thin windows help to emphasise the sheer verticality.

5.5/10 - OK, OK, maybe I'm spoiled, because recently I've been feasting the eyes on books full of lovely photos of simply breathtakingly splendid Gothic cathedrals, after which a batch of dull boxes is, to say the least, a let down.

But still...this has good height, and a somewhat shiney facade, but a dull ol' box with a shiney facade is still a dull ol' box...
