CULWULLA October 13th, 2003, 05:07 PM Last week i contacted bates Smart about the number of units in 1FWP for my diagram (they told me 530). while i had the guy on the phone i asked about the 2nd residential tower (162m). He said its now a mixed tower (retail/office/res) and is now scheduled for construction to commence in 2006!!
So might be a bit of a wait for this one guys.
Philip Burt October 14th, 2003, 07:50 AM Love your FWP pics Tayser.
The long-skinny FWP1 core is pretty mad. It looks like there are at least ten individual lift lobbies on each floor so far. Does that mean that the core will progressively get skinnier (say approximately every six floors)?
Would I be right in guessing that each set of lifts (each set of "holes" in the core) would serve only a specific range of floors, given that most users would only go from ground to whatever floor their apartment is on?
Is the mini-Me core for the podium only?
Wish they'd start numbering the floors at FWP.
kasperluke October 14th, 2003, 01:13 PM This thing looks huge close up......haven't been there in a while!

tayser October 14th, 2003, 01:24 PM Well, the busy little fella certainly has been busy ;)
So glad some people can be arsed to walk around the other side of the block to get the big Eeeeezy and FWP brothers & sisters in.
5 more core rises, and it'll in the mid-levels of Southbank tower height, and the tower / office space itself will be WELL underway - mmm time to get excited bout this one too soon :guns1:
kasperluke October 14th, 2003, 01:34 PM Thanks Tays
Yeah this view is going to mad! I can't get over how huge they are close up the pictures don't do any of the towers justice!
Not too busy...i was going to do more..ie Docklands etc (that was my main plan...) but didn't have time!
CULWULLA October 15th, 2003, 03:45 AM view on Monday- taken by work collegue-

MISSING LINK IN YARRA RENAISSANCE REVEALED
Concept plans have been revealed for Melbourne's newest public landmark and the last piece in the jigsaw along the Yarra River between Southgate and the Docklands.
Planning Minister Mary Delahunty and Lord Mayor John So today released plans for the Queensbridge Square precinct, which includes Sandridge Bridge and a new public space on Southbank.
Plans for the Square and Sandridge Bridge are detailed in a model on the site and a booklet available from the council. Plans for the north bank will be developed further next year. The entire precinct will be completed in time for the Commonwealth Games.
The State Government and the City of Melbourne have worked closely on developing plans for the precinct and are jointly funding the $14.5 million development of the precinct.
Queensbridge Square is a vital intersection, connecting Southgate, Southbank Boulevard, Queensbridge St, the casino, the new Freshwater Place apartment tower and the Sandridge Bridge, which leads to the Flinders St Station and its underpass.
"The Square will link to a revamped Sandridge Rail Bridge that will bring new, elevated views of Melbourne and incorporate pedestrian and cycle pathways. On the other side will be a far more accessible and safe north bank," Ms Delahunty said.
The Lord Mayor said the restored bridge and new public spaces were the missing link in the revival of the north and south banks of the Yarra.
"It is destined to be a popular landmark where Melburnians and tourists alike will gather to meet friends, enjoy the northern sunlight, watch outdoor performers and relax,'' he said.
Highlights of the 9175 sq m Queensbridge Square include:
· A design that pays respect to the rich heritage of the railways, via materials with a strong industrial aesthetic and linear
components that reflect, among other things, the original line of the overhead rail carriageway;
· Planting formations that will evoke the memory of natural river-edge landscapes. Plants will include majestic fig trees
that provide a shady, leafy ambience;
· A large open plaza area ideal for events, public gatherings and other activity;
· Amphitheatre-style seating straddling the casino car park tunnel entrance and other raised platforms to allow people
to view these events; and
· Extensive lighting to ensure the area is safe and vibrant 24 hours a day.
Sandridge Bridge is divided longways by massive steel girders that allowed trains to travel safely in either direction. The eastern section will be developed into a path for pedestrians and cyclists with a ramp down into the Square. The western section will be stripped back to the supporting slats, allowing views of the water below.
Ms Delahunty said the exposed steelwork on the western section could be used for permanent or temporary art installations or performances, using a temporary stage over the exposed spans. The new square, with amphitheatre style seating, will be a magnet for performers, markets, parades and open-air theatre.
She said it was envisaged that the north bank would contain entertainment spaces that would appeal to young people.
Work on removing old ballast from Sandridge Bridge has already begun. Work on the substantial project is expected to begin next year after tenders are advertised this year.

Cheers

Aussie Steve October 15th, 2003, 07:18 AM I juts had a look at the drawings on the MCC web site and yet again, we have a boring open plaza full of concrete (no water feature) and very little plants!!!!!
Grollo October 15th, 2003, 12:48 PM Yeah I had a look at the plans for Queensbridge Sqaure and the Sandridge Rail Bridge and all I can say is that I was bitterly dissapointed.
tayser October 15th, 2003, 11:42 PM damnit, wish they'd included the 1FWP tower in the renderings [MCC's site]
barneybuck October 16th, 2003, 05:05 AM Looks like they have been conned again it dosent look like much for 14.5 million bucks!
A-brain October 16th, 2003, 10:52 AM Umm I'm afraid 14.5 million bucks is about all that will buy you these days..
I agree it's nothing stunning, but I do like the general layout with the steps up to the plaza and the outdoor cafes, along with the trees..
It will be plain and simple but should have that ingredient that money can't buy - ATMOSPHERE ..
lozza October 17th, 2003, 06:32 AM gday !
the thing that shits me about this whole thing is all the taxpayer money the LABOUR government has wasted , just to come to the decision to build this simple bridge !
Dont get me wrong, i quite like the bridge, but why the hell do they waste all our money to come to that conclusion, instead of just doing it in the first place ????
THEIR BLOODY ASS HOLES !
clap, clap for the government ! :applause:
cheers
lozza
Billy the Kid October 17th, 2003, 08:00 AM Just to be pedantic Lozza its Labor party in Australia not labour.

joed October 18th, 2003, 01:05 PM It's pretty nice model - especially with it lit up. they coped out of the other towers though :(

A-brain October 26th, 2003, 10:09 AM tays took that pic across the road from Eureka on Riverside Quay .. and I tell you what....
I've been driving down that street for four years now and it's incredible how then it was just a spacious open feeling street ...
.. and now it feels like a canyon in the middle of New York !! With these tall buildings going up on all sides the feeling has transformed ..
In other words..

http://metropolis.tayser.net/misc/fwp3010032.jpg
oh yeah ^^ core rise.
Billy the Kid October 31st, 2003, 05:12 AM I always find this 13th floor thing bullshit. Dont the people on the 14th realise they are on the 13th anyway?

Similarly, those people on the floor labelled "12" are really on the 13th because of the G (ground floor) factor.
A-brain October 31st, 2003, 08:38 AM FYI there are now numbers on the core of FWP1 ..
There a big fluro green '7' on the front thin edge of the core as well as on the side..
Oneder if they'll skip 13 also?
Billy the Kid November 1st, 2003, 12:15 AM Of course the Yanks dont have a ground floor at all which can make it quite confusing if you dont realise it .
tayser November 1st, 2003, 11:09 AM Actually Billy, go and have a look at the foyers of the like of:
- Nauru House (the "Ground" level is actually level 6)
- 101 C (The "Ground" level is actually either level 5 or 6) etc etc.
I too, was surprised to see that not all big bastards here (and undoubtedly it's the same elsewhere) follow the Level G, 1, 2, 3....etc scheme.
