http://www.kingcountymonorail.org/ This has been going on for years and never been proposed on the ballot since. It's probably a fantasy website.

This would be really nice, though.

I'm perplexed as to why monorails seem to be so . . . hip . . . among certain people. What's wrong with a light rail system?

And no, I don't believe they'd be cheaper to build or operate, as the site claims.

me neither, I've wondered about the pricing and speed claims, too. 50 mph top speed is kinda slow...."are we there yet?"

Yep, I've heard of it, and I even perused their website when the Green Line Monorail proposal was still very much in the game.

The only monorail proposal I would support is to possibly extend the Seattle monorail beyond the Westlake Center to the stadiums. The monorail is, first and foremost, an amusement park ride, at least here in the United States. It can never be an efficient mover of people the way heavy or light rail systems can be. However, it is a major tourist attraction, and therefore I don't see the harm in bringing tourists from the Seattle Center, through Westlake, to Qwest and Safeco fields on the extended monorail. But that is where the line should terminate, and go no further.

^^ That's pretty much what I thought when I took the Seattle and Las Vegas monorails. They are not much more than a "fun ride" for tourists.

Oh yeah! I remember hearing about this. Not very impressed though....I still think with the Seattle metropolitan area's big and growing population, we need a heavy-rail subway system to support high riderships. Monorail is just gay, and light rail (depending) is puny. Look at Taipei's heavy-rail system for inspiration.

While that would be fun, it would be pretty redundant with a subway going from westlake to the stadiums..

Yes, hypothetically.

What's wrong with a light rail system?

Too slow, poorly routed, does not provide an alternative to congestions, costs billions...

you have got to be joking. no alternative to congestion? how is 6 minutes vs 30 minutes from uw to downtown slow and NOT an alternative to congestion?

hee hee... which is to say that it is encoded in the very essence of transportation mobility. It's self-contained yin-yang.

Because it's not really 6 minutes from uw to downtown. It's 6 minutes from a station *near* the u-district to a station *near* downtown. Because it's on freeway right-of-way, half your walkable distance is gone, and there's no space for park and rides in either place. Basically, all riders would require two transfers (instead of most riders needing one or zero, with the light rail project), and ridership would be abysmally low.

Basically, it's an anti-transit project from idiots.

He was talking about light rail to begin with, not BRT. He was refuting Sounder who said light rail was too slow, and ineffective at relieving congestion
