Finbar gets green light for $111m project
FINBAR'S $111 million project at Rivervale has been granted approval after more than 18 months of consultation with the City of Belmont, the Swan River Trust and the Heritage Council.

Construction is scheduled to start on the first stage of the 282-apartment project, called Hill 60, late this year.

The joint venture project between Finbar and Wembley Lakes Estates will transform the derelict site into a five-tower residential development.

Located on the former St John of God hospital site on Great Eastern Highway, the finished project will include the restoration of the original homestead on the site and the construction of a dual use path on the foreshore.

Finbar originally bought the land from another development group for $8 million in April last year.

Finbar director Rick Rimmington said the final development would include five apartment towers and four retail outlets.

"Stage one will include 50 two and three-bedroom units ranging in price from $240,000 to $310,000," Mr Rimmington said.

"This pricing reflects Finbar's ethos of providing affordable, quality housing to the community."

The first two stages will be low-rise developments with stages three and four high-rise projects consisting of 76 and 113 apartments with river views.

"Each stage will have its own swimming pool, spa, sauna and fully equipped gymnasium," Mr Rimmington said.

He said the site's heritage had been carefully incorporated into the overall design of the project.

"Hill 60 was originally a private homestead and later the home of St John of God hospital," he said.

"We have commissioned a heritage architect to restore the homestead building to its original condition and we hope to utilise the space for a cafe or restaurant."

He said the site had been stagnant for many years and the Hill 60 development would inject new life in the area.

The Hill 60 project is not the only apartment development capitalising on Rivervale's proximity to the river and the city.

The Red Castle Motor Hotel has been slated for a $26 million redevelopment which will be undertaken by Stenton Turner & Associates.

The plans for this development have been approved by Victoria Park Town Council and construction is expected to start next month.

there goes finbar again! wow this sounds great, those 2 high-rise should be 8-12 levels, this will be great for the area with the new balneum apartments and ascott quays, a nice gateway to the city along great eastern hwy then don't forget burswood lakes. this project was a big surprise finbar had coming soon on their site but I had no idea what they were planning, finbar are probably perth's biggest apartment developer now! does anyone know the exact location or a have a map? they should sell well with river views, and cheap prices and close to the city! good to see the local council approving some higher density developments!

come 10 years this area will be perths southbank, boomsville, and great that its all in the inner city but not just in CBD, we will have the 7 towers @ the peninsular, holiday inn @ burswood, eastern gateway development, posible belmont park upgrade, possible burswood dome site development, plus a host of other development around great eastern highway, finally this will be a nice dense gateway into the CBD and lets hope its complimented with streetscape works. Im hopeing the peninsular sets a higher standard for towers, because the tower along great eastern highway are pretty poor quality pretty bland and to much concrete, not a very eye opening example to nimbys at how good high rise can look, but to support this growing density I think some rail spurs or light rail etc.. is needed because the traffic along that area is already out of control

what this area really needs is major traffic calming, an improvement to public transport and a big upgrade along the foreshore with broadwalks cafe resturants etc... the area is far to busy with cars, and abit to run down tho the great eastern highway tack is kinda kool lol, but needs more places to go esp with the rising density and a good high frequency transit route is needed to combat heavy traffic plus its teh major airport gateway

The plan is to move the highway away from the river, and take away all the industraial sites along the river side, meaning a larg residential area. With towers!

is this a 5 tower or 3 tower development? Reading back to the beginning it says 5 towers and in all the renders I have seen under the ceresa titile have had those other two towers in them. On the ceresa website it has price litsts of 3 towers which differ from the pricelists of the avena stage. Also the final giveaway to me is the old building which is situated east of the avena towers. In the above render I don't see any old building.

Going to give them a call about it anyway.

It's near the airport, near the city and near the river (ie cruising grounds). Perfect for flight attendants, so it would have to have gay community potential then :)

Why do u expect oldies?

Didn't someone just mention ^^^^that it would be a perfect spot for flight attendants and airport workers?

A previous photo with the view of Perth makes me think it is a good spot. Why else would a developer put density in a spot like this, housing commission may not be the answer, so middle aged people or even some young people. But i guess it depends on the cost though

Good spot for a hotel though, close to the airport means u could sleep in and not have to worry about the traffic to get to the airport as much as u may if u were staying in Perth city CBD area....

I drove past these when I was back in Perth the other week, they really have a big impact from great eastern highway.

How much would a one bedroom apartment cost in this complex?

they do have a big impact, but they suck for connectivity to the rest of the area, with the walls are vast area of grass, where's the low rise with the shops etc...

Yes. The wall is for the sound from the main road and the grass is for the Highway widening. They have compulsory acquired land all along that strip, the site next door i believe has been cut back.
