This Nielsen-Lohse basket arch bridge is one of the most modern and sleek-looking bridges in the country. The original Bamban Bridge was destroyed in 1991 when Pinatubo erupted, cutting off vital transportation routes since MacArthur Highway is the major link between northern Luzon and Manila. Various other bridges were erected in place soon after but each one was washed away too, forcing some Baguio vacationers from Manila to take the Concepcion, Tarlac route.
The bridge’s arch has a span of 174 meters and contains 1,400 tons of steel. It is one of the longest bridges of its type in the world and was completed sometime around 1998. It is quite a landmark in an area devastated by Pinatubo’s eruption. - Source (http://www.vistapinas.com/article/bamban-bridge)
allan_dude March 6th, 2010, 07:21 PM Local rider rules Stage 5 at own turf (http://www.manilastandardtoday.com/insideSports.htm?f=2010/march/4/sports3.isx&d=2010/march/4)
SAN JOSE, TARLAC—Tomas Martinez of Smart knew the terrain like the palm of his hand and cashed in on it to seize Stage 5 of the 2010 Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers Association (LPGMA) Tour of Luzon yesterday at the Tarlac Monastery here.
And while most of the riders were caught off-guard by the challenging landscape, Martinez hardly encountered any difficulty after three hours, six minutes and 11.61 seconds for a solo finish at the end of their 145-kilometer ride from Clark, Pampanga.
“Matagal na akong nag-eensayo sa mga bundok na ito,” said the 29-year-old RP team rider, who hails from Baras-Baras, Tarlac. “Mahirap dito, pero nasanay na din.”
Dennis Von Nickalk of EMG Cycling came 12.43 seconds later followed by Arnel Quirimit of Liquigaz (50.18), Kelly Benefit skipper Reid Mumford (1:02.78), American Vinyl’s Cris Joven (1:27.3) and Tots Oledan (1:33.27), Batang Tagaytay’s Daniel Asto (1:33.27) and Alfredo Asuncion (1:38.33).
Completing the Top 10 in the lap backed by partylist group LPGMA, Liquigaz, GeoEstate Beacon, Burlington, Energizer and Schick were Renato Sembrano of GeoEstate (1:57.53) and Santi Barnachea of Liquigaz (1:57.53).
Mumford grabbed the overall lead with a total time of nine hours, two minutes and 44.53 seconds while erstwhile leaders Ryan Anderson of Kelly Benefits (3:38.11) and James Perry of EMG (4:05.50) lost the pole position after falling eighth and ninth, respectively.
David Veilleux of Kelly Benefits moved up to second (9.54), Nickalk improved to third (19.37) and Barnachea made a surprise progress to fourth overall (2:05.02). Asuncion (2:50.51), Oledan (2:55.29) and Tolentino (3:12.11) also made it into the Top 10.
Martinez broke free in the final 17 kilometers at the foot of the hill with Nickalk, Querimit, Mumford and Joven furiously chasing him down, while the yellow jersey was buried in the main peloton more than five minutes away.
When the big group with Anderson and Perry made the ascent, the riders broke into several splinters as the road undulated and twisted going up.
“Na-sorpresa kami ng daan. Hindi naming akalain na ganito pala kahirap ito,’’ said Quirimit, the 2003 Tour champion and Stage 3 lap winner.
Chief Commissaire Renato Del Mundo marked the last 17 kilometers of the course as a Category I climb, with its steep hairpin turns and harsh elevated layout.
“This one is shorter, but has the steepness of Baguio,” said Del Mundo. Baguio has been classified as Hors, considered as the most difficult elevation in the sport.

By Lira Dalangin-Fernandez
MANILA, Philippines—Administration candidate Gilbert Teodoro's green campaign hue was all over the birthday bash of his wife, Nikki, at the Batasan Park in Quezon City Wednesday night, even as the Tarlac congresswoman insisted she wanted to celebrate it with the kids.
The couple arrived in the venue with their 11-year-old son, Jaime Gilberto, amid a crowd of about 4,000, mostly children from the area.
"Since I'm the one who formed the child welfare committee (in the House of Representatives), I decided it's more worthy to spend it with the innocent . . . there's no intrigues," Nikki told reporters in an interview.
The congresswoman, who turned 44, said she traditionally celebrates her birthday with a party with the children in her district, but her friends organized it near the Batasan complex this time because it was close to the chamber where her pet bill was passed, the Anti-Child Pornography Act.
Nikki wore jeans and a black shirt with a green print saying, "Misis ni Gibo."
"I'm the only one who can wear this because I'm his only misis (wife)," said Nikki of the shirt, which she said was a gift.
Teodoro was asked about his gift to his wife, but Nikki replied before he did.
"All the love in the world," she said.
Teodoro added, "And other things. Secret."
Parlor games and dance number by children kept the crowd entertained. The rock band, Rivermaya, who sang Teodoro's campaign jingle, also belted out songs.
Quezon City Representative Annie Rosa Susano and actress Dawn Zulueta, wife of Representative Anton Lagdameo were also spotted in the crowd.
Organizers, supporters, marshals and volunteers for Teodoro were in green.
In lieu of leaflets and stickers, food were distributed like juice, Goldilocks
cupcakes, ice drops, ice cream and chips.
Bebot Diaz, Nikki's chief of staff, said friends of the couple donated for the food and other expenses for the event.
Outside the venue, tricycles with Teodoro streamers paraded the streets.

allan_dude March 6th, 2010, 07:31 PM DOT expects 15% growth in tourist arrivals in 2010 (http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=555425&publicationSubCategoryId=108)
By Ehda M. Dagooc
CEBU, Philippines - The Department of Tourism (DOT) expects at least a 15 percent growth of tourist arrivals in the top destinations in the country in the year 2010, as domestic and travel movement continues to increase, boosted with the recovering interests of foreign travelers.
In an industry report released recently by DOT, it revealed that anchored on the smooth implementation of Tourism Act or RA 9593, the department foresees the coordinated and integrated efforts of the government and the private sector to expand current capacity, increase tourist demand, enhance tourism revenues, and create more employment opportunities in tourist destinations.
Because of the implementation of the RA 9593, DOT is confident to hit at least 15 percent growth of domestic and tourists’ arrivals to the top destinations in the country.
Cebu has emerged as the number one tourism destination in the Philippines for 2009 with total tourist traffic arrival for the year hit 1.61 million, a 1.2 percent increase compared to figure recorded in the previous year.
The Tourism Act of 2009 seeks to regulate and uplift the standard of tourism services; to strengthen promotional capability of our tourism industry; to create infrastructure such as hotel development and beaches; to encourage private sector participation; to ensure and focus a cooperative approach among various agencies and institutions; and to ensure competitiveness and increase market share.
The new law “declares a national policy for tourism as an engine of investment, employment, growth and national development, and strengthens the DOT and its attached agencies to effectively and efficiently implement that policy.”
The report also underscored that by year-end 2009, the DOT has endorsed 28 new tourism projects worth P 36.3 billion with estimated employment capacity of 15,567 once operational.
The bulk of new investments are in the Tourism Economic Zones amounting to P29 billion. These include the Eagle Entertainment City, Bagong Nayong Pilipino Entertainment City, Embarcadero de Legaspi, Akean Resorts and Ilawod Estate Tourism Economic Zone.
Additional investment in the accommodation sector with total cost of P5.4 billion is projected to employ 2,722 people. This include the Remington Hotel (1,000 rooms) and Microtel Inns and Suites (150 rooms) in Manila, Sheridan Beach Resort (96 rooms) in Puerto Princesa City, Highlander Hotel (76 rooms) in Nueva Vizcaya and Green Canyon EcoPark (75 rooms) in Tarlac.
In connection to this, the airline sector responded to the growth in the tourism sector as Cebu Pacific, Zest Airways and SeaAir have poured investments to acquire new aircrafts to cope with the demand for increased air travel. Total investments of these airlines were valued at P15.9 billion.
Total tourist traffic in the top fourteen (14) destinations in 2009 reached 8.9 million for 14 percent growth. This feat is attributed to the combined efforts of the Department of Tourism, the private sector, local government units and other stakeholders to continually diversify the tourism products, increase accommodation and transport capacities, and upgrade existing tourism services.
Top 10 destinations in the Philippines include; Cebu, Camarines Sur, Metro Manila, Baguio City, Davao City, Boracay Island, Cagayan de Oro City, Zambales, Bohol, Puerto Princesa City, Camiguin, Cagayan Valley, Negros Oriental and Ilocos Norte.

Philippine Daily Inquirer
TARLAC CITY—PEACEMAKER and one of Tarlac’s political giants, Rep. Jose “Aping” Yap, died of prostate cancer on Monday night.
Yap, 81, had been a pillar of Tarlac politics and was a leading advocate of peace when he led the government negotiating panel that reached out to communist leaders during the administrations of Presidents Corazon Aquino and Fidel Ramos.
Yap, who died at 10 p.m. Monday at the Chinese General Hospital in Manila, spent most of his life in politics, starting out in the early 1950s as mayor of his hometown of Victoria when he was 26.
A close friend and party mate of the slain Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. under the Liberal Party, Yap was a staunch critic of the Marcos dictatorship and martial law.
Known as Aquino’s political tactician, Yap led the opposition in Tarlac during martial law.
He was appointed administrator of Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System during the Aquino administration.
In 1988, he was elected representative of Tarlac’s second district and served for three terms.
A known close associate of former Tarlac Rep. Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr., Yap, in 1998, surprised his province mates when he coalesced with the political party of businessman Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco Jr., Peping’s estranged cousin, and ran for governor against reelectionist Gov. Margarita Cojuangco, Peping’s wife. Yap won and served for three terms.
In 2007, he returned to Congress to represent the province’s second district. His son, Victor, won the gubernatorial race that year against Peping Cojuangco.
Yap, a lawyer, was running for a second term under the Lakas-Kampi-CMD in the May 10 elections when he died. His death took Tarlaqueños by surprise as his illness was not known to many of his province mates.
His remains lie at the Sta. Maria Della Strada Church in Quezon City. He will be given honors in the House of Representatives on Thursday morning before he is taken to the Tarlac provincial capitol in the afternoon.
Yap will be taken to his hometown of Victoria on Friday and will be buried on Sunday in Sitio Lubigan in San Jose town, site of the Monasterio de Tarlac.

We had dinner nga pala sa Robinson's Luisita last weekend. (mga 4 to 6). Yung Jollibee at Maxx Restaurant puno halos wala kang maupuan. Same with Chowking and may Mini-Stop na rin.
May mga kiosk din like yung mga hotdog on sticks, black pearl, native deli, shakes, siomai outlets, goto, shawarma, fishballs, kikiam, squidballs and marami pa.
Ang daming tao as in iisipan mo saan sila nanggagaling.
They even had yung SM Cinema ads sa newspaper posted. So I checked with the SM Cinema and indeed ALICE in Wonderland is showing in SM Naga and Clark in 3D.
At SM Clark, the movie is showing in 2 cinemas. 2 AND 3. Cinema 3 is in 3D.(with 3D glasses). The admission is 250 (Cinema 3) may libre ka pang pop corn (wala syang coke) pero sponsor ang Coke and nakalagay sa stub one free meal.
So I went to see the film dahil super curious talaga ako how is it like seeing 3D in a regular size screen.
SO my verdict (opinion ko lang ah)… As for the film, it was indeed a visual feast. Pero I would still prefer the IMAX Screen for 3D. Kasi I didn’t enjoy the experience. I even went to the 1st row ng sinehan para lang mafeel kong nagpa pop-out yung mga characters sa screen. Unliike for instance yung scene sa ‘A CHRISTMAS CAROL” na umuulan ng snow, you would feel na inuulanan ka rin ng snow and that the snowflakes are getting into you. I think yun ang difference. Iba ang 3D sa IMAX Theater than a regular size screen.
Kaya my experience yesterday failed in comparison. (or rather suffered by comparison?)
Maybe maraming dadayo diyan especially ngayong holy week.
Tarlaqueno-ako March 8th, 2010, 12:49 PM Wow, ang ganda na ng SM. Wish ko lang sana mag soft opening sila during the opening of Palarong Pambansa, sigurado puno yan. He he.
Welcome to Tarlac City and Province thread ppotter 77.
Thank you for the pictures Dustin. We enjoyed it a lot.
allan_dude March 8th, 2010, 01:41 PM ^^ Great update Dustin!
Yap, ganda.

I hope to visit that place someday kasi may brother in law ako sa San Jose tapos papasyalan ko na rin yung Tarlac Recreation Park.

Pinaka service area kasi ng SCTEX Luisita exit ang Robinson's Luisita kaya dito nag sstop over mga travellers papuntang North. Kaya siguro palagi maraming tao.

ilang level ba tong sm city tarlac?
I hope na magproliferate pa ang business establishments dyan sa McArthur Highway starting from Luisita up to Tanedo crossing especially sa Romulo Highway/McArthur Highway junction where the SM Tarlac is located. Just like in Calamba crossing of Laguna.
Dustin March 13th, 2010, 03:19 PM Is this Robinsons Supermarket or Robinsons Place?:dunno:.
it's both
SM City Tarlac is the first SM Supermalls to use the new SM Logo.

Tarlaqueno-ako March 14th, 2010, 01:59 PM Sige nga pakikuhanan ng picture Dustin, Im very eager to see na the SM Tarlac with the big signage.
Sana mag mall tour dyan yung cast ng First Time ng GMA sigurado patok yan sa mga bagets. he he.

I think OO.
kevinb March 14th, 2010, 03:50 PM it's both
I see. I was kinda confused since it only says Robinsons Luisita not Robinsons Place Luisita. Is this a new thing for Robinsons or is it a different type of Robinsons mall like an SM City and an SM Supercenter?

I have to agree with you. Functionality-wise parang hindi masyadong napag-isipan. Para ding ang daming idle na space. Sayang yung area... mas may maganda sanang pwedeng itayo.

and these two favorites are located right in front of SM City Tarlac. just across the street along the Hi-way:banana::banana::banana:

Dustin March 20th, 2010, 05:57 AM Sabi ng uncle ko (who works as an engineer sa SM City Tarlac), they are trying to beat an April 10 opening in time for the Palarong Pambansa (April 11-17).
Ang ganda ng SM natin noh! (though lahat naman ng SM maganda)
Pero in my opinion stand out ang SM Tarlac, SM Clark, SM Marikina, SM Baguio, SM Rosales. Exception syempre yung MOA.
I think maganda rin yung SM Naga.
Ang liit ng National Book Store same with Silicon Valley etc. And I think magkakaruon ng road widening sa McArthur Highway.

Sa tingin mo why did SM prefer Rosales over Urdaneta? Di ba originally Urdaneta sya? What do you think?

Sayang talaga.
Tarlaqueno-ako March 20th, 2010, 12:29 PM Wow, ganda ng SM Tarlac. Last night lang ako last na nag log in dami na agad nagpost.he he.
Nice shots Dustin.
Sana may shot din yung buong junction yung kuha yung mercury drug, gusto ko makita yung pagbabago ngayon na may SM na he he.

Thanks Dustin!
Nga pala, any updates sa Palarong Pambansa? Just check it out!

I'm always taking pics of new development sa city natin.
Yung pics ng SM kinukuha ko bago ako bumalik ng Angeles for my work.
Tarlaqueno-ako March 21st, 2010, 05:04 AM Parang mas maganda yung dating logo. O di kaya naninibago lang tayong tngnan yang bagong logo? he he.

I can recommend Microtel at Luisita or La Maja Rica Hotel along the Mc. Arthur Hiway. There's also a strip of transient houses at San Isidro, Tarlac City. I just don't know the current rates. But im sure it's not pricey.
Last November we spent 3 nights at Bambinos Transient at San Isidro for 300 per night. The place is good.

Paki check po yung website ng Tarlac for the Palaro Venues.

hakz2007 March 23rd, 2010, 04:09 PM Tarlac now insurgency-free
CAMP AQUINO, Tarlac City, March 23 (PNA) – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Tuesday formally handed over the primary internal security responsibility to the local government unit as a declaration that the province is now insurgency-free.
The handover of the primary internal security responsibility was formalized with the signing of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) held at the provincial capitol grounds in Ma. Cristina Park, Macabulos Drive of this city.
The principal signatories to the joint declaration of an insurgency-free province and partnership in strengthening the internal security of Tarlac province were Governor Victor A. Yap, Major General Irineo C. Espino, Commander of 7th Infantry Division, Philippine Army and Chief Superintendent Arturo G. Cacdac Jr., Central Luzon acting regional police director.
Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom) Chief Lieutenant General Ricardo David Jr. affixed his signature as witness to the signing of MOA, together with Brigadier General Gominto Pirino (701st Infantry Brigade), Col. Jose Caparas Jr (3rd Mechanized Infantry Battalion), S/Supt Amador Corpuz (Tarlac PNP Provincial Office), Vice Governor Marcelino Aganon Jr., among others.
One of the highlights of the program was the symbolic hand-over of a bayanihan replica to Gov. Yap which symbolizes the Filipinos’ spirit of communal unity or effort to achieve a particular objective.
Governor Yap, in his message, said “we cannot truly end insurgency if there is no real and lasting development. There is no development either if there is no peace.”
Yap congratulated the AFP for establishing a clear direction for internal security.
He also lauded the PNP and civilian authorities for extending their all-out support
For his part, David said he was happy with the development as he noted that Tarlac is the fourth province to be declared insurgency-free since the onset of 2010.
The others are Quirino, Apayao and Aurora, all under the area of Nolcom’s jurisdiction
Handover was possible when the local terrorists’ threat to the province’s stability, peace and order, and development has already been significantly reduced and relegated to inconsequential level, which means that the prevailing security situation is within the capacity and function of law enforcement.
Apparently, Tarlac and the three other provinces satisfactorily met the criteria.
David said he is confident that the local government with able support from the PNP is capable of taking the lead role in aforementioned provinces when it comes to internal security.
He urged all agencies to work hand in hand in the preservation of peace and order within their communities.
He pointed out that the combined efforts of the AFP, PNP and local government units paved the way for the clearing of these provinces from the influence of the local terrorists.
He also attributed it to the "whole government approach" wherein particular attention was given on the root causes of insurgency.
He said pure military solution will not solve the problem. (PNA) http://www.pna.gov.ph/index.php?idn=2&sid=&nid=2&rid=265974

i'mproud2btarlaqueño March 28th, 2010, 04:58 AM Danding and Gretchen build another beautiful church

MANILA, Philippines - After their old parish church burned down 10 years ago, the people of Camiling town in Tarlac prayed that someday, they would again have a proper place of worship.
Time came when their efforts to raise funds enabled them to start building a new church, near the ruins of the old one. But spiraling costs and insufficient planning only brought their dream farther away from their grasp.
Until a contingent of parishioners, led by parish priest Fr. Macario S. Ramos Jr. decided to approach one of the province’s most famous sons — former ambassador and current San Miguel Corporation (SMC) chairman and chief executive officer Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco Jr.
Cojuangco and his wife Gretchen have, after all, built and donated three churches in select parishes over the years: St. Rose Church in Paniqui, Tarlac; Queen of the Most Holy Rosary church in Miranda; and St. Michael the Archangel in Pontevedra, both in Negros.
“I have always been very grateful to the people of Camiling,” he relates. “They helped me in my career. The people are very nice, and I have friends here who have stayed friends through thick and thin. I owe the district a lot. So I said, sige, magtulungan tayo (let’s help each other).”
The plan was to build a new church this time on the ruins of the old one. The construction took 15 months before the Cojuangcos, the clergy, and the Camilenos finally dedicated the new Saint Michael the Archangel Parish Church of Camiling.
The edifice, an imposing 1,500-capacity colonial design, is now the pride and joy of the town.
With a total floor area of 2,200 square meters, the church features intricately designed stained glass windows depicting Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary and angels. Its centerpiece is an ornate and elegant retablo in gold and deep brown.
The church is said to be the newer “twin” of another famous church that the Cojuangco couple built — the St. Michael the Archangel in Pontevedra, recognized as one of the most beautiful churches in the country.
During the church dedication attended by the whole town, Cojuangco thanked all those who were involved in the project, but conceded there was one person who deserved greater credit.
“I’m referring, of course, to my wife Gretchen. She has been the moving force behind this project and a frequent visitor to Camiling throughout the year-long construction process,” he said.
“Assisted every step of the way by engineer Romeo Palanca, Gretchen designed virtually every square meter of this church. From the tiles to the engraving of the altar, from the holy water stoup to the details in the stained-glass windows, everything bears her imprint. This is her handiwork and we are so very proud of what she has accomplished.”
Cojuangco said that he feels sad during his travels when he sees empty churches in Europe and the United States. “To see our church filled with to the rafters today makes me very happy.”
He is open to the idea of building more in the future. SMC, the conglomerate he chairs which is now diversifying to new industries, may also consider helping, he says, as part of its corporate social responsibility projects.
“When the opportunity rises, why not? It makes you feel good, trying to give back some of the blessings that you have received from above. Not everybody is given the opportunity to do such a thing and I consider myself very blessed because of the fact that I am able to contribute towards the construction of this church.”
I think it doesnt just apply sa central luzon but the whole of Luzon... differences/mixed cultures, dialects has given Tarlac Province the distinction of being the "melting pot of Luzon".
Not for long...marami namang in the pipeline na SM Malls na for sure yung bagong logo na ang gagamitin. I wonder lang bakit kaya nagpalit ng trademark logo ang SM to think na sikat pa naman sila... i think they are trying to experiment at cost cutting na rin siguro. Kasi mas mura yata yung bilog kesa dun sa customized na S at M letters.
What do you think?
GREENICE....same thing also..
allan_dude March 28th, 2010, 06:12 PM I think it doesnt just apply sa central luzon but the whole of Luzon... differences/mixed cultures, dialects has given Tarlac Province the distinction of being the "melting pot of Luzon". If you say melting pot of Luzon or RP, Metro Manila na yun.

Yes i remember na. I checked on my book kasi and central luzon nga.

ppotter77 April 2nd, 2010, 05:45 PM Even in their advertisement in the newspaper for SM Department Store and Hypermarket, SM is already using that new logo. But personally, mas gusto ko yung old SM logo, mas classy ang dating compare sa bago with the circle. I wouldn't mind if they just put circle on the old SM logo than completely changing the famous S and M letters. Anyway, we have to get used to it...u
kevinb April 2nd, 2010, 05:49 PM ^^ The old one is timeless, just like Coca Cola's logo. The new one looks so outdated.

I think early this year ng irenovate nila ang interior ng mall. Right now, yung exterior naman ang ginagawa nila. Do you think it is wise to undergo a renovation with the impending opening of SM? If they want to compete with SM at least they have to wait and see first. I mean gumastos sila ng malaki sa renovation pagkatapos lilipat din pala ang mga tenants at customers nila sa SM, so what's the point right? Isa pa, I don't think they need a major renovation unlike Magic Star Mall.

Actually, I forgot to mention that. Instead of renovation kasi why don't they concentrate on marketing. I think it's less expensive and proven effective. That is the most practical way to be competitive for me. They used to offer free ride pero wala na yata ngayon. And I believe they're doing some advertisement also. I hope they can sustain their operations kapag bukas na ang SM. Well, lets just wait and see what would be the impact of SM to our local malls..u

Majority still like the old SM logo pero masasanay din tayo. Lahat yata ng SM malls will eventually carry the new logo.

So taga Tarlac ka pala. Welcome kabayan and happy SSC posting. AKo din naimpressed sa interior ng Metrotown. As in pagpasok ko nastruck ako...ang layo sa Magic Star. Ang ganda ng bagong color combination. At may Abenson pala sa Metro ayun nakabili tuloy ako ng electric fan.

I think you can never compare naman Magic as well as Metro sa SM Mall. Parang David at Goliath yan. SM is a brand and very famous at that.

Tarlaqueno-ako April 3rd, 2010, 05:31 PM Hello everyone, I'm back again in Manila from my trip to my home province Tarlac.
So these are very good developments.

I'll try to get a complete list next time post ko dito.

Tarlaqueno-ako April 7th, 2010, 01:00 PM Wow, ganda pala ng SM logo pag gabi. he he. Hopefully may budget kami pang SM he he.

Athur Hi-way.
Matanong ko lang, how come you know a lot about SM? Are you in any way part of the SM Group or its affiliates?

i'mproud2btarlaqueño April 9th, 2010, 02:39 PM Tarlac province all set to host 2010 Palaro
Preparations for Tarlac province’s hosting of the 2010 Palarong Pambansa are all in place as the youth games opens on Sunday, April 11, in the town of San Jose.
The Palarong Pambansa, an annual national scholastic competition by 17 regional athletic delegations – will be held from April 11 to 17.
The 15 competition venues – where 17 sports in the secondary level and 15 in the elementary class will be disputed – have all been completed.
"All the requirements have been put in place, especially the game venues and what I can say is that we the people of Tarlac are ready to hold the games, which the province will be hosting for the first time in the 53-year-history of the Palaro," said Tarloc Gov. Vic Yap
The newly-built Tarlac Recreational Park at barangay San Juan de Valdez in San Jose town – a sixth class municipality 11 kilometers east of the provincial capital Tarlac City – will be the main hub of competitions.
Organizers decided not to schedule games from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to avoid athletes being exposed to extreme heat brought by the El Niño phenomenon. Sufficient water supply and additional electric fans will be provided to all venues and at the athletes village for the same purpose.
Except for archery and arnis – which will only be played in the high school division – sports to be disputed in both levels are athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, football, gymnastics (artistic and rhythmic), sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis and volleyball.
Other playing venues are the Tarlac Plazuela in Tarlac City, the Victoria covered court in Victoria town, Sunrise Subdivision, Lapuz Coliseum, Bayanihan Institute, Provincial Capitol gym, Hacienda Luisita, Paniqui Court, San Sebastian Court, Diwa ng Tarlac Park, Nolcom Park, Don Bosco, San Isidro Covered Court, CLDH Covered Court, San Rafael Covered Court and the Ecumenical Christian College. – GMANews.TV

i'mproud2btarlaqueño April 10th, 2010, 04:10 AM Transportation dilemma hits CV
EVERYTHING seems to be smooth-sailing for the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association delegation in the Palarong Pambansa in Tarlac except for the distance of the venues from the satellite billeting area of Region 7.
The 500-strong delegation is billeted in two venues—at the Don Bosco quarters located in the city and at the Paniqui South Central School, which is 37 kilometers away from the city.
“We were told beforehand that we would be billeted far but we did not realize how far it was until now,” said an athlete, who asked for anonymity.
Click here for Election 2010 updates
“It is so far away, we have to travel for an hour before getting to our venues from the billeting area. Also, we need to make a reservation two days ahead before we can get a service vehicle, which is difficult especially if the games are ongoing and events are happening simultaneously,” the athlete said.
The bulk of the team is at Don Bosco but the lawn tennis, sipa, archery and chess squads are in Paniqui.
“The billeting is ok. It is spacious. In fact we’d rather stay here than in the other billeting because the latter is small, crowded and there are very few comfort rooms. Our only problem here is the transportation,” said the player.
The other day, they failed to participate in an event because they were not able to tell the coordinator that they needed transportation.
“We informed them the night before but we were too late,” said the athlete.
The athlete added they had to resort to renting a jeepney to take them to the city. They had to pay P400 for it from their allowances.
Meanwhile, Department of Education’s mobilization and special projects committee head Vivian Ginete said they would address the problem and might be assigning two vehicles in Paniqui for the athletes’ mobilization.

i'mproud2btarlaqueño April 10th, 2010, 04:11 AM NM bets suffer difficulties in Tarlac
Friday, April 9, 2010
IT SEEMS that Tarlac province is not prepared at all as this year's host of the Palarong Pambansa.
Northern Mindanao coaches shared this sentiment after encountering various kind of difficulties upon the NMRAA team's arrival in Tarlac some two weeks ago.
The 2010 national students meet for the country's top elementary and secondary athletes will open on Monday (April 11) at the newly-constructed Tarlac Recreation Park in San Jose, Tarlac.
"Pag gabii wala nay tubig. Walay mga teachers nga ga-assist unlike in the Tacloban Palaro last year," texted badminton coach Eric Miguel who also criticized at how traders in the area are taking advantage of the situation.
"Tanan nga palaliton mahal. Even the rela fare has peaked at P30," Miguel told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro Thursday.
Miguel further said how they were shocked upon learning that a badminton court is asking P250 per hour for a team practice, while another is offering P120 per head for one hour.
"Sobra ra kaayo ilang gibuhat. Dapat dili sila mosakay sa panahon," Miguel said.
The region's swimming team, meanwhile, has to travel outside Tarlac if only to look for a viable swimming pool for practice.
"We have no choice but to chip-in for rental fees among other expenses. It's a hard life over here," one swim parent, said.
Messy classrooms for the athletes' sleeping quarters that are lacking with comfort rooms had greeted earlier the NM bets who were also bothered by the abundance of mosquitoes at Tarlac National High School's annex building.
"Gawas ana, looy ang mga bata kay wala pa diha ang allowance wala na miy mga money dire," another Cagayan de Oro-based coach reported.
Meanwhile, Tarlac Palaro organizers are giving participants and officials a break from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as a precaution against heat stroke which caused two deaths and more than a hundred cases of heat stroke in previous stagings of the games.
"We will no longer hold games from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. because it is usually the time when it's really hot," said DepEd's Palaro consultant Len Toledo.
The new rule will be implemented for the first time in the history of the annual multi-sports meet.
Two deaths and more than 300 cases of heat stroke were reported during the 2007 edition of the annual meet in Koronadal City, South Cotabato.
"We're not taking any chances," said Toledo. (With JV reports)

Marami pang kailangang asikasuhin to make this event possible and successful... And also Election era rin nga... naka focus ang mga pulitiko for their campaign like Gov. Yap who is seeking for his re-election.

Sports patron Manny V. Pangilinan, the Smart/PLDT top honcho, will lead the roster of guests in the 4 p.m. inaugural rites at the newly built Tarlac Recreational Park that serves as main venue of the multievent, weeklong competitions for elementary and high school athletes.
Trade and Industry Secretary Jesli Lapus, and Mona Valisno, who took over his former job as education secretary, will share centerstage with Pangilinan.
Organizers have made adjustments to prevent heat-related incidents, including stopping action in all outdoor events from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to chief coordinator Len Toledo.
Perennial overall champion National Capital Region is expected to stamp its class in the 17-region field with Western Visayas (Region 6) and Calabarzon (Region 4A) as its main rivals.
The Big City athletes will try to cash in on medal-rich swimming, athletics, taekwondo and the ball games (football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, lawn tennis, table tennis and sepak takraw).
Also on tap are boxing, chess, gymnastics, archery and arnis. Dancesports is also in the schedule as a demonstration sport.
Overall, NCR ruled the field last year in Tacloban City with 588 points based on its showing in all events. West Visayas was second with 460, followed by Calabarzon (382), Central Visayas-Region 7 (215) and Cotabato-Region 12 (211).
“All the requirements have been put in place, especially the games venues. The people of Tarlac are ready to hold the games,’’ said Gov. Vic Yap.
Several events will be staged outside of the Tarlac Recreational Park

Wala kayang mga signage directing the site?
i'mproud2btarlaqueño April 11th, 2010, 12:49 PM Di ako nakapunta kasi wala akong sasakyan.... according to a reliable source... inopen ang Palaro ni President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo... magaganda daw ang performance ng region 2, 10, and 12.
