Tarlaqueno-ako April 12th, 2010, 01:02 PM 2010 Palaro gets going in Tarlac
BY FRANK CALAPRE Correspondent
SAN JOSE, Tarlac: Exciting actions start today with a total of 15 gold medals to be contested in day one of the 53rd Palarong Pambansa being held at the Tarlac Recreational Park.
Eleven gold medals are up for grabs in centerpiece athletics while arnis will give four.
The medal-rich swimming event was scheduled to start also in the first day of hostilities but has to be postponed Tuesday to pave way for the complete filtering of the pool.
Also to start are elimination rounds in volleyball at the Don Bosco gym, basketball at the Col. Jose Lapus gym, baseball at the Tarlac Recreation Park, chess at the Aquino Center and lawn tennis at the Saint Mary’s court. Taek won do will only start on Wednesday at the Diwa ng Tarlac Center.
Communication tycoon Manny Pangilinan, Gov. Vic Yap and Department of Education Secretary Mona Valisno, meanwhile, vowed to work together for the development of sports in the country during the opening ceremonies.
Pangilinan, chief executive of both Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. and Smart Communications, promised an unwavering support to sports, while the 42-year-old Governor Yap said that with the contruction of the multi-million 78-hectare sports complex. Tarlac province will soon become the sports capital in the country.
Valisno, for her part said that aside from academic excellence, her main other priority is sports, which is vital in the building of a good citizenry.
“Our other thrust in the Department of Education is for the annual Palarong Pambansa to continue as the main producers of sports talents in the country,” stressed Valisno, who was appointed to the top Education department post replacing Jesli Lapus only last month.
More than 10,000 sports enthusiasts, who braved the scorching heat at the sprawling complex, some 27 kilometers from the city, attended the opening rites.
If the number of entries in the different 17 sports disciplines contested is to be the gauge, then host Central Luzon is priming up to grab the overall title from powerhouse and four-straight champion National Capital Region (NCR). Host Central Luzon fielded the second most number of athletes with 700 compared to NCR’s 600.
But surprisingly, 1998 and 2000 overall titlist Western Visayas came with the biggest delegation from among 17 regions throughout the country with 730 athletes, while Ilocos Region sent a 603-man delegation. Central Visayas came with 617 and 600 from Calabarzon. Even the farthest region Southern Mindanao came with a 580-man contingent and 600 from Northern Mindanao. Eastern Visayas comprising the islands of Leyte and Samar sent the smallest delegation with only 400, which is smaller compared to that of the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao, which sent 516 and Cordillera with 543.

Tarlaqueno-ako April 13th, 2010, 01:16 PM Tarlac City to celebrate 12th anniversary
BY: Eden Gutierrez
TARLAC CITY -- Tarlac City will celebrate its 12th anniversary as a chartered city from April 13 to 23 with the theme “Soaring High, Gaining More Towards Class A-Cosmopolitan LGU”.
Lydia Co, city tourism officer and chairperson of the Central Luzon Tourism Council, said during a press briefing held at the Tourism Office recently that that the 10-day event is expected to boost the tourism industry not only in the city but of the whole province as well.
“We hope this year’s anniversary celebration is a very successful one because the event coincides with the Palarong Pambansa to be held in the province on April 11 to 17. Marami tayong bisita, maraming turista kaya maraming a-attend ng ating celebration,” Co stated.
She revealed that as early as February, all the hotels, inns and even the motels are already fully booked because of the event.
“Tapos nasabayan pa ng pagbubukas ng SM City Tarlac this month and I was informed that as early as last month nakacheck-in na sa Tarlac City ang kanilang mga tenants, staff and other SM officers for the early preparation on their opening,” the tourism lady disclosed.
According to Co, the anniversary will kick-off through a motorcade on the first day followed by a trade fair and a puppet show at the Ninoy Aquino Plaza .
She also said that there will be some exiting events like Goat Show, the Miss Teen Tarlac City , some variety shows to be sponsored by Robinsons Tarlac and Ginebra San Miguel, the Senior Citizens Night, the City Manpower Night, Barangay Night, Battle of the Bands and the Parade of the Stars with Coco Martin and Kim Chiu of ABS-CBN.
“Tarpaulin of the anniversary will be sponsored by SM kaya we are so lucky na marami tayong sponsors tulad ng Globe, Smart, Sun, ABS-CBN, GMA 7, Robinsons at SM kaya ang lahat ng mga palabas natin ay Free Admission,” Co added.

igi_master April 14th, 2010, 02:55 AM Thai firm invests P1B in Tarlac hog production facility
Posted on April 3rd, 2010 under Biz Progress
Sourcehttp://goodnewspilipinas.com/?p=10952
Charoen Pokphand Foods or CP Foods of Thailand’s largest agri-business group, Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CPF) is investing more than 1 billion pesos in a hog production facility in Concepcion, Tarlac.
The investment would complement its P2.36-billion aqua feed mill plant in Capas, Tarlac.
“CP Foods continues to raise the level of its investment commitment by expanding their operations in the country. The project will contribute substantially to the SME sector since their main market will be hog raisers in the country,” said Trade and Industry Secretary Jesli A. Lapus.
The project will entail the construction of a great grand parent stocks (GGPs) farm, a grand parent stocks (GP) farm and a farm for breeder finishing hogs.
The feed requirements of the three (3) farms will be culled by the company through feed mill tolling agreements with a chosen feed mill adjacent to the farm sites.
Lapus added that the project “shall boost the opportunities in the food sector particularly in the hog raising industry. A steady supply of hogs will ensure stable prices for the public as consumer confidence continues its upswing recovery.
In addition, this project will benefit local suppliers of feeds as the company will buy feeds from adjacent sites.
Its breeder hogs will have a capacity of up to 25,000 head for sows and 500 heads for boars which could produce slaughter hogs of over 1,100 MT of GP fatteners and roughly 2,500 MT of Parent Stock (PS) fatteners. The breeder hogs will be sold on a per head basis regardless of weight while the slaughter of hogs will be sold live to viajeros with prices based on weight.
The market for the parent stock breeders will be the owners and operators of small, medium and large hog commercial raisers around Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Identified markets include Bulacan, Pampanga, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Zambales, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, La Union, Nueva Ecija, Isabela, Laguna, Cavite, Rizal, Batangas, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Albay, Sorsogon, Bohol, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Cebu, Aklan, Iloilo, Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Bukidnon, Agusan del Norte, and Agusan del Sur.
The investment will employ 80 personnel as commercial operation is scheduled to start on January 2011.

igi_master April 14th, 2010, 02:56 AM UK bioenergy firm to invest P6B in RP
Posted on September 20th, 2009 under Technology Milestones
Sourcehttp://goodnewspilipinas.com/?p=8404
Recognizing the Philippines’ viability for renewable energy sources, British bioenergy developer Bronzeoak has committed to peg additional P6 billion in investments in the country.
Bronzeoak has committed to put the additional ncluding the establishment of its second bioethanol plant.
The bioethanol plant, with sugar as its raw material, will be established in Capas, Tarlac, said Remonde.
The expansion plan of Bronzeoak in the Philippines to create another bioethanol plant in Tarlac has reinforced its leadership in bioethanol and renewable energy development.
Bronzeoak is also responsible for the bioenergy project in San Carlos, Negros Occidental, which is the first bioethanol project here by a British firm using “cutting- edge” technology.
Bronzeoak started its international operations, particularly in Southeast Asia in 1995 and has started the development of its bioethanol project here in the country in 2004.
Its bioethanol project in San Carlos, Negros Occidental, now operational, is the first stand-alone full-grade bioethanol distillery fed by sugarcane juice in Southeast Asia.
The British government had since been interested in investing in renewable energy and other alternative energy sources here in the Philippines due to its aggressive stance to combat climate change.

Tarlaqueno-ako April 16th, 2010, 03:14 PM Big City grabs lead in Palarong Pambansa
BY FRANK CALAPRE Correspondent
SAN Jose, Tarlac: As expected, four-straight overall champion National Capital Region (NCR) struck hard in its favorite stronghold swimming event with 10 golds and got two in gymnastics to lead the 53rd Palarong Pambansa at the Tarlac Recreational Park in San Jose, Tarlac here.
The NCR’s surge at the Olympic-standard pool prevented Calabarzon from taking the top spot of the leaderboard. Calabarzon could only manage five golds in swimming and two each in athletics and arnis Tuesday to gain the second spot with nine golds before a cooperative cloudy day.
The good temperature helped the athletes at least established three new meet records, one in swimming and two in athletics even as Regie Jet Sanchez also of Calabarzon and swimmer Rafael Sta. Maria became the meet’s double-gold medalists.
Sanchez dominated the secondary arnis event at the Tarlac Christian College gym where he won the gold in the Anyo Individual single weapon with a total of 90.2 points and his second from Anyo double weapon with 91.2 points.
The 11-year-old Sta. Maria claimed the crown in the elementary boys 200-m freestyle with a time of 2:14.19 as well as the elementary boys 100-m backstroke in 1:09.21.
On the other hand, Mark Harry Diones of the Bicol region posted the first new meet record in the secondary boys triple jump with a leap of 14.44 meters, which erased the old 14.21 meters set by Paulo Martinez of Southern Tagalog in 2002 in Naga City.
The 17-year-old Diones, a third-year high school at the Camarines Sur High School in Pili, had a foul jump in his first try but regained his focus in the second to beat Ivan Castañeda of Central Visayas, who settled for the silver with 14.34 meters and Joenel Vargas at third with 14.03.
“After committing a foul in my first jump, I told myself to give another try. It was my best jump and I thank God for regaining my focus,” said Diones.
Diones’ actually handed Bicol’ second gold, the other from Marian Dedios, who ruled the secondary girls long jump with a hoop of 5.17 meters.
But not to be outdone, Alysa Marie Andrade of Western Visayas, soared with a high 10.80 meters to wrap the gold in the elementary girls triples jump, which was just enough to break the old mark of 10.42-meter set by Irin Balauran of Region VII in 2005 in Iloilo City.
The promising Andrade relegated teammate Marie Plesto to second with 10.54, while NCR’s Joana Ebal finished third with 10.37 meters.
The petite Catherine Bondad of Calabarzon was the third record-breaker by winning the 200-m freestyle in 2:18.86, which shattered the old mark of 2:19.63 by Kristine Velez in 2000.
However, NCR seeking its fifth straight overall trophy swept the first two golds in the elementary level rhythmic gymnastics courtesy of Nicole Ariell Orella, Princess Joy Flores and Jelligyn Gernadoy, who ruled both the individual all-around and the team events with an aggregate 144.692 points.
Other results in athletics showed Ivan Castaneda copping the gold in the secondary boys long jump with a leap of 6.82 meters and Ralph Efraela Gesulgen of Region VI in the secondary boys javelin throw (52.48-meter).
John Noel Huerta of Region II clipped the gold in the elementary boys triple jump (11.79-meter), while Mark Louie Ada of Calabarzon in the elementary boys discus throw (26.27-meter) and Jewel Manaig of in the elementary girls shot put (10.80-meters).
Meanwhile, a total of 36 athletes and officials have already been treated for minor complaints since the opening day such as hypertension, headache, dysmenorrhea, difficulties of breathing, dizziness, back pain, vomiting, fever, muscle pain and leg injuries.
Dr. Aileen Mangahas, head of the medical committee, said that even as the summer temperature continued to rise but all incidences so far were not serious and just minor cases, which cannot be avoided in a very intense competition like the Palarong Pambansa.
“Nothing serious but only minor cases, which is very normal in a big competition like this,” said Mangahas, who is also the provincial medical officer of Tarlac.
She said that some 600 medical personnel including volunteers from the different colleges and universities are being spread to all billeting quarters and venues to insure an immediate response to any complaints from 7,000 athletes and officials participating in the weeklong event.

12 SUGGESTIONS FOR A HAPPY LIFE
By Wilson Lee Flores
Speech delivered on March 28, 2009 at graduation ceremonies of Bayanihan Institute and also at the Tarlac Living Faith Academy in Tarlac City, Tarlac)
Thank you for this privilege to be invited to speak before this outstanding school even though I’m not as famous as Kris Aquino, whose heroic and inspiring parents are both from this historic province of Tarlac.
Officials, teachers, parents and graduates, congratulations to all of you for making this graduation possible. Graduates, please stand up and give your parents a big round of applause for their hard work in paying your tuition fees and for seeing you through school.
Congratulations also and never forget your teachers, please stand up again and let us applaud them because they are in the noblest of all professions and the true heroes of our society.
Ever since I was a kid, I said to myself that one day I hope to visit all the many schools where my late mother Mary Young Siu-Tin had once taught. I had several years ago visited the Tabaco Pei Ching High School in Tabaco, Albay with my friends Bicol businessman Melanio Cua Fernando and former Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) President Atty. Joel Cadiz. It means a lot to me to be here visiting the Bayanihan Institute where my mother had once taught before I was born. Also, my favorite photo of her was probably a yearbook photo from this school because that sepia photo has the words “Island Studio, Tarlac” on it.
Most of the people I’ve talked to have totally forgotten what their high school graduation speaker had said, so I’ve decided to just write down 12 suggestions for you to consider. After I mention these 12 suggestions, I’m giving each of you graduates a copy in the form of a letter, for I am a writer and I really sincerely believe that writers are better read than heard.
Here are my 12 suggestions:
Dream—I urge all of you to dream, and hopefully to dream big. It doesn’t cost anything to dream. Why dream big? If you dream for the stars, you might reach the ceiling. I suggest that you go home tonight to write down your dreams and try to put target deadlines for achieving them, then put that list on the wall of your bedroom, because I believe dreams without deadlines are just fantasies.
Obey your parents—Whether you understand them or you think you do not, trust me on this, obey your parents because they want only the best for you and they have had more experience.
Live healthy—Good health is priceless wealth. Exercise regularly. To eat right is better than to eat well. Don’t ever try cigarettes or other unhealthy vices, because they are definitely not cool. Worldwide studies have shown that 90% of cigarette smokers start smoking before reaching 18 years of age, leading the U.S. Surgeon General in 2001 to label cigarette smoking as a “pediatric disease”.
Read—In this era of the addicting internet, Facebook, computer games, countless channels on cable TV and ubiquitous shopping malls, I notice that a lot of young people do not read. For you to get ahead in life and to improve your mind, I believe it is important for you to read—whether books, magazines or the newspapers. Never stop learning. Reading improves your language, your critical thinking, it can inspire, it enriches your imagination and expands your horizons.
Study Chinese—It is not only beneficial because China today has the world’s second largest economy and is also America’s biggest creditor, Mandarin is spoken by more than 1.3 billion people and it is the key to the cultural riches of a 5,000-year-old civilization. Chinese has an uncomplicated grammar. Unlike English, Spanish or German, Chinese has no verb conjugations. It also has no gender or number distinctions. What in English is “see”, “saw” and “seen” is only “khan” in Mandarin, while horse and horses are just the same “ma” in Mandarin.
There are many priceless cultural values embedded in Chinese language not found in English, such as “xiao-sun” for “filial piety” to parents and elders, such as “ren” the word for “perseverance” comprised of two characters meaning “heart” and “dagger”, or the world-famous Chinese phrase for “crisis” or “wei-ji” made up of two characters “wei” for “danger” and “ji” for “opportunity, etc. etc.
Do not waste time—My late mother once taught me a Chinese proverb which says, one ounce of time is equivalent to once ounce of gold, but an ounce of gold cannot buy back one ounce of time which had already passed. Whether rich or poor, powerful or ordinary people, God has equally given all of us 24 hours a day. Time is our most important resource, not money. As young people, you may not realize it yet, because death seems to be a very distant strange concept, but every day we live, the clock is ticking away, so cherish and value time.
Do not be afraid to fail—In life, we do not always win, sometimes we lose or we fail, but failure is not permanent and it offers lessons. I want to tell you a secret—most people on earth easily forget if we fail or lose, but people remember those who win; so even if you fail a hundred times, they will soon be forgotten in a week or two, but the worst thing in life is never trying.
Hard work is more important than talent—If you go to the nursery sections of hospitals, you will see there are many naturally talented and intelligent babies being born everyday, but how come not all people are successful? I believe hard work is ultimately and infinitely more important than talent, intelligence, or other advantages. I also believe hard work brings us more good luck!
Pray—It is sad that people often only pray when they’re in crisis. Pray always.
Value true friends—Many of your childhood or high school friends are your true friends, be good to them because often they are even more important than your relatives. Choose good and true friends, not bad influence friends.
Have positive thinking—Reject negative attitude, avoid negative friends. In the future, even if you encounter the worst difficulties or heart-breaking problems, never give up or despair but have unshakable positive thinking. Every crisis brings new opportunities, every failure is only a temporary setback but with bonus lessons; all of us are destined for success, it is our birthright!
Think globally—Whatever you dream or plan, think beyond Tarlac, aim beyond the Philippines. You and I live in the most exciting period in human history with globalization, internet, borderless corporations and disappearing boundaries. Think globally, we live in an era of endless possibilities!

Tarlaqueno-ako April 17th, 2010, 05:26 AM Lora, Dizon collect Palaro bronze medals
Published in the Sun.Star Davao newspaper on April 17, 2010.
SAN JOSE, Tarlac -- Swimmer Lorelie Lora and tennis player Jenni Celine Dizon salvaged bronze medals for Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) in the 2010 Palarong Pambansa in two separate venues here.
Lora, a transfer student at Holy Cross of the Davao College (HCDC), copped her third bronze medal late Thursday by clocking a total of two minutes and 37.95 seconds in the secondary girls 200-meter backstroke event at the Tarlac Recreational Park (TRP).
National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) tanker Whitney Dy bagged the gold anew having timed 2:30.06, while Ariana Herranz clinched the silver with 2:31.71.
Lora's recent finish came on the heels of her winning the 100-meter backstroke and 200-meter medley bronzes. Also winning bronze medals in the 200-meter medley were Sweet Angel Altamera, Le'an Cantil and Shenna Mae Ayuban.
"I had a satisfactory performance because in my level there are many fast swimmers. The three bronzes were more than what I have expected," Lora said.
The swimming event culminated yesterday afternoon with Davraa only settling for the three bronzes that Lora won. It's quite an improvement from last year's total medal shutout in Tacloban City.
Over at the Hacienda Luisita Country Club Tennis Courts in Tarlac City, Dizon bowed to Joy Calapre of Caraga Region, 5-8, in the elementary girls singles semifinals Friday.
Dizon, who just graduated at the Ateneo de Davao Grade School, Davao Oriental's Twinnie Joy Delfinan and Debbie Ace Songcuya and Davao del Norte's Princess Aiko Miyata won the team silver.
"I am fulfilled with my performance in the team event having won all my games but I regret to have not made it in the finals of my individual event. I retained the singles bronze I won last Palaro," Dizon said.
Delfinan and Songcuya, meanwhile, whipped Cotabato Region bets, 8-3, to keep their gold medal hopes alive in the elementary girls doubles event.
Delfinan and Songcuya were set to play against Mimaropa Region rivals as of Friday. Mimaropa survived an 8-6 win over Eastern Visayas to arrange a titular clash against Davraa. (MLSA)

Tarlaqueno-ako April 17th, 2010, 05:30 AM Gold still eludes Team Cordillera in Palaro athletics
By Isagani S. Liporada
TARLAC – Eight hundred meter dash top qualifier Jonfrey Opendo was one of the remaining hopes of Team Cordillera of ever landing gold in track and field in the 53rd Palarong Pambansa at the 78-hectare Tarlac Recreational Park (TRP) athletic oval here.
The Baguio boy had the best time (2:01-minutes) entering the finals of the event and exuded confidence he would make it middle of the winners’ platform.
Click here for Election 2010 updates
On the other hand, teammate Leo Patrick Ninaga, tallied fifth best time in the heats and was considered heavy underdog going to the finals.
This, until another athlete accidentally tripped and caused Opendo his chance at glory via a four-way tumble resulting in Opendo’s 5th place finish, April 14.
Ninaga, fortunately, finished second (2:04:94-minutes) bagging team CAR’s first silver in athletics behind Joan Caido of Region I (2:04:51-minutes). Administrative Region of Muslim Mindanao’s Salman Dimalin settled for third with 2:04:51-minutes in the 800-meter high school boys’ category.
Later, CAR team coach Arturo Alimbuayo revealed Divina Kitongan ran her best to bag Cordi’s second silver in the secondary girls’ 800-meters. Details of the win are yet to be provided as of press-deadline.
Earlier, Benguet lass Gemma Landisan found bronze can shine like gold when she threw the javelin 33.89 meters in the girls’ secondary level. She placed behind Stephanie Cimatu (38.9m) of Region I and Jansel May Candelaria (34.11m) of Region V.
Following Kitongan’s exploits, Alimbuyao likewise revealed two other speedsters broke into the winners’ podium via Benguet’s Rodilyn Fernandez’s and Jasmine Felix’s third place finishes in the elementary girls’ division 100-meter high hurdles and 100-meter sprint secondary girls’ division, respectively.
Meantime, Alimbuyao expressed optimism CAR will win soon land a gold somewhere in the boys’ and girls’ 1500-meter run featuring high school Kitongan and rebounding Opendo; the 3000-meter run where barefoot Ifugao runner Amaya Yoyog is expected to shine; and the 4x4 and 4X1 relays.
Team CAR’s medal haul in athletics now stands at 2-silvers and 3-bronzes. (Xania Carandang)

Tarlaqueno-ako April 17th, 2010, 05:33 AM Jins up CAR gold count to 4 in Palaro
By Isagani S. Liporada
TARLAC – Baguio tae kwon do jins bagged two more golds as the dust settled in the battle of forms (poomsae), April 14, upping team Cordillera’s golden haul to four in the third day of the 53rd Palarong Pamabansa hostilities at the Diwa ng Tarlac Convention Center (DTCC) here.
The trio of Alister Fias-ilon, Angelica Joyce Gaw, and Brighty Salazar bested contenders from other participating regions powering their way to the gold in the elementary girls’ level synchronized poomsae.
Click here for Election 2010 updates
Fias-ilon and Salazar are from the University of Baguio (UB) Laboratory Elementary School (LES) while Gaw hails from Roxas Elementary.
Not to be outdone were their ‘manangs’ from UB who redeemed themselves from their earlier pasting in the individual poomsae event.
Suzzane Caslangen, Apriel Joy Solimen, and Kathleen Delizo performed like virtual mirror images of each other in delivering crisp punches and high kicks taking their opposition to school.
The showdown is participated in by the best of the best tae kwon do practitioners from at least 15-teams representing various regions from all over the country.
The twin team wins upped CAR golds to four after Benguet’s Paolo Wong and Baguio’s Dale Cayago lorded it over groups ‘B ‘ and ‘A’ in the boys elementary division individual poomsae, respectively.
All jins, who delivered golds in their respective categories train at the Baguio Defenders Do Jang (BDDJ) under the watchful eyes of coach Arnold Oglayon.
The CAR 24-man taekwondo team is composed of 20-jins from Baguio; three from Benguet, and one from Kalinga.
Meanwhile, the trio of Luigi Paolo Wong, Kendrix Galian, and Tristan Cayago settled for the bronze in the elementary boys’ poomsae.
Wong is from Hope Christian Academy (HCA) in Benguet; Cayago, from Baguio Achievers Academy (BAA); and Galian, from UB-LES. The trio is the only mixed gym team with Wong and Cayago training at BDDJ and Galian, with Bravehearts Taekwondo Gym (BTG).
In the high school boys’ category, Rommel Arvin Yadao, Benjamin Keith Sembrano, and Keno Mendoza likewise settled for the bronze.
Yadao and Sembrano are from Baguio City National High School (BCNHS) while Mendoza is from UB.
Earlier in the individual forms competition, Solimen and Yadao scored Cordillera’s first silvers. Gaw and Yadao on the other hand settled for a bronze each.
Contributing points for CAR in the regional overall ladder was Sembrano who placed 5th in High School group ‘A’ category.
In 2009, CAR bagged 11 of 12 golds in poomsae. With only four golds this time around, the team hopes to outdo their previous year’s performance in sparring where they managed to bring home 2-golds.
In arnis, Henry Gando and Claire Donggaas failed to break through the medal column in the anyo (forms) individual and double batons. They, however, contributed 2-points each as both of them placed 5th in their single baton assignments cushioning team CAR from possible last place in the overall team championship tally.
In the team anyo event, the trio of Gando, Bryan Pagaduan, and Kurt Pachong; and Gando, Pachong and Chad Sadcopen registered 3-points each, for a total of 6 in the overall CAR team score as each team placed fourth in the single and double baton categories, respectively.
When all hope for a medal win seems to escape the Cordillera green warriors, Gando bounced back in the pin weight combat event, secondary boys’ division, giving Cordi’s first medal win in arnis, April 14.
The 15-year-old’s bronze medal came via a thrashing of a Region II fighter. This was followed by Dongga-as silver medal win over a Region XI arnisadore in the extra-lightweight combat, secondary girls’ division, April 15.
Gando won gold in 2009. Dongga-as on the other hand, replicated her silver medal finish in the previous year.
In boxing Baguio counterpunching 11-year old, Holyfield Bayawa, settled for bronze capping the day’s medal haul via a hard-fought boxing match against Region VII’s Hipolito Banal whose fighting style bears resemblance to that of his elder brother and Filipino professional boxing sensation AJ ‘Bazooka’ Banal.
Tae kwon do sparring events in the elementary and high school are yet to be concluded as of press-deadline. So far, the elementary jins have won their initial assignments in the eliminations. (With Xania Carandang)

Tarlaqueno-ako April 19th, 2010, 12:25 PM Big City Retains Palarong Pambansa Crown
BY FRANK CALAPRE CORRESPONDENT
SAN Jose, Tarlac: The National Capital Region (ncr), through its victory in volleyball, baseball and softball accumulated a total of 640 points to retain the overall crown for the fifth straight year in the 53rd Palarong Pambansa here at the Tarlac Recreational Park. After retaining the swimming crown Friday, the Big City bets swept the two baseball events and ended the 22-year supremacy of Western Visayas in the secondary softball, 4-3, to wrap both the elementary and secondary divisions trophy.
“As what we have seen today, other regions are improving in some other events so next year we will also do something in these events, where we are not that good. We will do better each year. So expect a much better NCR next year. This is our challenge to other regions,” said Dr. Jose Rizalino Rosales, assistant regional director of NCR.
Archrival Western Visayas finished consistently at second in both divisions to remain a distant runner-up in the weeklong multi-event meet with an aggregate 430 points followed by Calabarzon with 402, while Central Visayas kept the fourth spot with 213.17 and Northern Mindanao at fifth with 192. Host Central Luzon, which finished eighth last year in Tacloban City, now improved to sixth with 170 and Socsargen at
seventh with 148.5.
Completing the top 10 casts were Davao Region at eighth with 99.84, Mimaropa occupied the ninth spot with 84.5 and Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association with 63 points for the 10th spot.
Aside from swimming, baseball and softball, other domains for the NCR athletes were gymnastics, chess and volleyball girls, when they dethroned Western Visayas for the title.
The Department of Education used its own matrix point system to determine the overall champion with seven points given to individual gold, five for silver and four for bronze, while the champion in medal-rich athletics and swimming gets 30 points each but 25 points each is also provided to the winner in baseball, basketball, football, volleyball and softball.
At the end of the fierce competition, a total of 22 new records, 13 in athletics and nine in swimming have been posted in the book, which was better than the only 12 in Tacloban City last year.
Among the records being reset in athletics were three from Unso and two from Ayssa Mae Andrade. The others were Maika de Oro of Region VI (secondary girls’ discus throw), Felyn Deluso of Region VI (secondary triple jump), Mark Heey Diones of Region VI (secondary triple jump), Gia Bucag of Region VI (elementary girls’ javelin), Jesusa Ampunan of Bicol (elementary 100-meter hurdles), Joneza Mei Sustitudo of Region VI (elementary girls’ 1,500-m run) and Lovilyn Pamatian also of Region VI (elementary 800-m run) and Francisco Valderamas in the secondary pole vault (4.05-m).
In swimming, two from Ca-therine Bondad of Calabarzon in the elementary girls 200-m freestyle and 400-m freestyle, while one from the NCR team of Antoinette Aquino, Arianne Canaya, Alyssa Pogiongko and Shaya Uy in the 4x50-m freestyle relay.
Also setting new records in the secondary level were Gabriel Castelo of NCR in the 100-m butterfly, Loren Dal Echavez of Region VII in the 100-m freestyle, Fahad Alkhalde of Calabarzon in the 800-m freestyle and Erika King Lukang also of Calabarzon in the 800-m freestyle and the NCR team in the secondary boys 400-m freestyle relay.
Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Harry Angping, the main guest in the closing ceremonies, handed a sum of P5,000 each to all record-breakers in athletics and swimming.
“I challenge all of you to continue doing better in your respective disciplines so that your chances of making it to the South East Asian Games, Asian Games and the 2012 Olympics will be also higher,” said Angping to the winners.

Medyo busy lang...sa work at sa personal life :bash:
Kahapon nasa Tarlac ako, umuwi ako sa amin.
May basement pala ang SM Tarlac. So bale 3 level sya + basement. Yung supermarket is nasa basement daw and fudcourt yata.
Level 3 mga cinemas. (4 cinemas)
Tarlaqueno-ako April 20th, 2010, 12:52 PM Mabuhay Tarlac Province for a successful Palarong Pambansa 2010 Hosting!! Congratulations to NCR, the Champion! Host Central Luzon being this year's sixth place!

Thanks for the info. Dami siguro nanood ng parada dyan.
Buti may bagong postings dito. He he. At nagparamdam na si Dustin.
Yung commercial complex ba na yan, nakatayo na? Kasi parang wala akong nakita sa may malapit sa siesta.Aabangan namin yung pics dito. Salamat.

i JUST DONT know about yung vacant lot sa tabi ng Phil. Rabbit.

Dustin April 22nd, 2010, 02:41 AM I went back to Angeles kasi last Monday ng gabi na mga 8pm na siguro yun.
And NOW heto na nga... finally, on APRIL 30, 2010.
Kasi ako dyan ako lumaki at nag-aral hanggang high-school.

Full of information and details.

Tarlaqueno-ako April 23rd, 2010, 11:43 AM With the upcoming opening ng SM, siguro may bago ng SM sign at route ang mga jeepneys towards SM site, he he. Puede ka ring magjoyride from Maliwalo to Matatalaib, Downtown, Cathedral, Magic Star, TSU, Capitol, CLDH, Macabulos then SM City.
Tarlaqueno-ako April 23rd, 2010, 11:46 AM Pag ganyan siguro ang gawin, at least mas lalong magdevelop yung bypass road where Talon Citi Plaza is located kasi palagi nang may dadaan na mga sasakyan at mga tao. What do you think?

Star bucks doesnt define a city, does it?
Again, I aint an SB fan although ive chilled out there most of the time and my fave chocolate cream chip can be found there, pero what's with SB ba besides it being a coffee shop and their lovely and beautiful bartenders? :D
For me, ok lang if mauna pa sa up north ang SB. In fact, mauuna din yata sa Iloilo or Bacolod (if my memory serves me right) ang SB eh. Sa Tarlac City nga may SB eh.
And if people may think that Starbucks is an economic indicator...hmmmmm in a way cguro oo...but it's not the most accurate economic indicator. As i said, mas nauna pa ang SB sa Tarlac...Not that i am underestimating Tarlac City, pero if you'll compare the economic activities of Davao and Tarlac, mas ahead naman sa Davao. from dabao tred~~

I stand corrected. Hindi nga pala ikaw ang nagcommnent dun sa "KUNG WALA WENDYS WALANG KWENTA ANG SM CITY TARLAC".
Sorry I should have scrolled the comments down further. I repeat i am sorry.
Natatandaan ko you commented like "KAHIT MAY KAMUKHA SYANG DEPARTMENT STORE"...
You said "SM Rosario and other SM provincial malls". All I can say is... do we expect otherwise? Of course they will all look identical. They will all bear the same SM "look and feel". wE must understand that SM IS A BRAND, (and very famous at that). I just find it amusing kasi I thought you would say ANOTHER CHAIN OF MALLS. I just think kasi any similarity or resemblance is somewhat expected if you are going to compare it with other SM Supermalls. After all, they are all related. They all carry the same brand.
The way AYALA malls are. The way Marquee Mall in Pampanga is somewhat like an extension of Glorietta Malls in Makati.
Sorry rhenz... my mistake. :ohno:
Yes, a resounding yes... SB presence in an area is an economic indicator.
Of course not... kasi consumer spending is one key factor why nagtatayo ng isang business outlet sa isang lugar...
economic indicator is simply economic statistics... like employment data, demographics, and other related marketing informations
which indicate how well the economy is doing and how well the economy is going to do in the future.
Investors use all the information at their disposal to make decisions. If a set of economic indicators suggest that the economy is going to do better or worse in the future than they had previously expected, they may decide to change their investment or divert them to other place which proves to be feasible.
STARBUCKS presence in an area may not be an ALL-OUT INDICATOR but still its a major draw as far as service investment is concern. Its simply one of the many trademarks of a modern economy.
Bakit walang Starbucks sa Davao.... we wont know ONLY STARBUCKS could tell. Basta sa amin matagal ng may STARBUCKS. Tarlac is the first city in Central luzon to housed that very famous coffee outlet.
Though relatively mas maunlad economically ang NEARBY San Fernando at Angeles City. Ngayon Tarlac, San Fernando, & Angeles all have their respective SB branch.
A grave mistake suffice to say.
ANGONO, SAN YUN... MAY STARBUCKS BA DUN?".
I think that sums it all
Dito sa atin... i admit na meron trademark dito na Hacielda Luisita Massacre but then... that was long-long time ago.. 2004 to be exact... pero now.... look at Tarlac... unti-unting nagpapasukan ang mga businesses like SM which will be open on Friday. And yung SCTEx and upcoming Tarlac-Pangasinan La-Union Toll Expressway (TLUTEx)....
WawaY[625] April 26th, 2010, 04:45 AM Beowolf is a troll..it wasnt posted to belittle tarlac but the troll highlighted certain words to make it appear as if it was..you may air your grievances to the one who posted it sa davao thread nang mapag-usapan ng maayos
beowolf11 April 26th, 2010, 06:47 AM Awfully..A troll? How could you say that. I just gave Tarlac forumers tidings of what you and your colleague spilled. And it is up to them to take part and go over the can of worms..sigh~~We need also their side and opinions regarding this, right Way?
Good morning Tarlac~~

However proud kaming Tarlaquenos na unti-unti umaangat ang economy sa Tarlac City as evidenced by investments that are coming-in like Robinson's, SM, SCTEX, Tarlac Pangasinan La Union Expressway (aside from those companies located inside Luisita Industrial Park) and more in the future. Kaya marami pang darating sa Tarlac, 12 years pa lang eto since it became a City.
,,,kaya huwag kayong magtaka kung may STARBUCKS sa Tarlac.he he.

Can't you see these @way? How could you say na tinwist ko ang kwento? You mean they didn't fully understand the qouted post of your ally?
Whatever my intentions you think is, still you cannot halt them to speculate and think better of in line with that point out, kung city niyo kaya ganyanin,di ba lalabas yung pagka-Davao Death Squad blood niyo palibhasa sanay kayo na kayo ang mas magaling, marunong at maunlad di ba? Bullies and superiors?
Im sorry tarlaqueoños if I caused crosstalk here, this is not an enmity, I just wanted to hear your voices regarding this matter, for I know we do not want our cities to be picked on by just like that.

AKO NAMAN... ang sinabi ko there's something wrong with the argument na "hindi economic indicator ang presence ng Starbucks sa isang lugar".
Pero huwag na nating pahabain. Maunlad ang Davao and that is a given fact.
OK :)

i'mproud2btarlaqueño April 28th, 2010, 04:22 AM SM Prime to raise $500M via REIT
SM Prime Holdings Inc., the country’s largest mall operator and developer, is eyeing to transfer from 15 to 18 of its “mature” shopping centers into Real Estate Investment Trusts, or REITs, to raise as much as $500 million, a top company official said.
Following SM Prime’s shareholders’ meeting on Tuesday, chief finance officer Jeffrey Lim said the company is currently looking for a foreign financial adviser to help it set up a REIT firm once the final rules are out next month.
SM Prime was earlier looking to raise $300 million, similar to Ayala Land Inc., through the law which would provide a framework for companies to publicly list their income-generating assets on the Philippine Stock Exchange.
“Depending on the appetite, we might even go higher [than $300 million],” Lim said in response to questions posed by reporters. He said the figure could go up to $500 million.
SM Prime announced on Tuesday that its board had approved the formation of a REIT company.
“We hope to be the first. The rules are very clear already,” Lim said. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) released the draft rules of the REIT law for public comments last week.
Lim said proceeds from a REIT offer could be used for “mall expansion, paying down debt and giving back to shareholders.”
In the same meeting, SM Prime announced a 10-percent increase in its first-quarter net income to P1.9 billion while revenues grew 15 percent to P5.4 billion. Cash flow, as measured by Ebitda, rose 16 percent to P3.8 billion, for a margin of 70 percent.
Rental fees continued to account for the largest share, or P4.6 billion of revenues.
This year, SM Prime plans to spend P12 billion to launch four new malls in the country and one in China.
The company will open SM City Tarlac this Friday to be followed by SM City in Novaliches, Quezon City; SM City Calamba and SM City San Pablo, both in Laguna.
SM Prime will also open its fourth mall in China in Suzhou province in the fourth quarter this year. Next year, the company plans to launch the same number of malls in the country, and in China.
“I am very bullish for the year 2010, not only because of the new malls but expansion of our mature malls,” said SM Prime president Hans Sy.
By the end of the year, SM prime will have 40 malls in the country, of which 16 are in Metro Manila and others spread nationwide with an estimated gross floor area 4.7 million square meters.
P7-B net income last year SM Prime reported 10-percent net income growth to P7 billion last year, on the back of a 15-percent jump in revenues to P20.5 billion.
The company credited the gains from new malls it opened, with rental fees accounting for P17.7 billion of total revenues, registering a growth of 15 percent from 2008.
The growth came despite damage from the twin storms that affected the country and in the process damaging SM City Rosales in Pangasinan and SM City Sta. Rosa in Manila.
Last year, SM Prime opened three malls and expanded three of its shopping centers.
It opened SM City Naga in Camarines Sur, SM Center Las Pinas in Metro Manila and SM City Rosario, Cavite; and expanded SM City Rosales in Pangasinan, SM City Fairview and SM City North EDSA, now the biggest shopping center in the country.
Dustin April 28th, 2010, 04:23 AM 3 floors po and the basement for a total of 4....
pwede ring... 3 floors and a lower ground floor for a total of 4... plus across is a six-storey building for parking.
i'mproud2btarlaqueño April 28th, 2010, 04:25 AM TARLAC CITY, TARLAC - This city will have a brand new landmark soon when SM opens its first mall in the province this April.
You know you’re in Tarlac when you come to a ‘junction’ – a portion of McArthur Highway going to Baguio City that forks left going to the city proper. For those who routinely take the bus going north, it is exactly where you make a stopover to this place aptly called “Siesta”.
But pretty soon, one only needs to see those two familiar letters plastered on a huge building and you know you’ve reached this province, fondly called “Cojuangco” or “Aquino” country because it is the birthplace of these political clans.
I must say this is a very strategic location to build a mall. I should know because back in high school, I take a 30-minute jeepney ride everyday from my hometown of Capas to Tarlac. What is SM now used to be just a huge vacant lot. How else could you go wrong if you’re near the main highway?
Since then, there have been two or three local “malls” that have been built, although these are two-storey structures that are not even a third of the size of SM City Tarlac.
Naturally, of course, in a mall-crazy nation like the Philippines, wherever an SM is being built is sure to create buzz. Promdiblogger carries some artist sketches of SM City Tarlac, which elicited comments inquiring about job openings.
On the other hand, an SM mall is also bound to stir controversy because it represents a threat to local businesses. But that was nearly three years ago. Now, the people of Tarlac should be excited about having an SM to call their own.
Dustin April 28th, 2010, 04:39 AM wheres the link to your item?

i'mproud2btarlaqueño April 29th, 2010, 06:11 AM SM City Tarlac opens April 30
April 28, 2010, 3:44pm
The opening of SM City Tarlac on Friday, April 30, will not only allow SM to serve more shoppers in Central Luzon, but also enhance its presence in the north-central area where its supermalls in Pampanga, Clark, Rosales, and Baguio are located.
Located on a prime 35,000 sqm property along MacArthur Highway in Barangay San Roque, SM City Tarlac is SM Prime Holdings’ 37th supermall. It will primarily serve shoppers in Tarlac City, the provincial seat of government and center of trade, commerce and industry, finance, education, health and government support services.
With 14 colleges and universities, seven hospitals, 10 churches, two industrial parks and 42 factories, Tarlac City has a very high daytime transient population and is the choice residential site of the more affluent families of Tarlac.
The mall’s strategic location – 41 kilometers from all Tarlac municipalities and is highly accessible to travelers going to and from Baguio, La Union, and Ilocos – will also make it a destination for customers from Tarlac and nearby provinces.
The 103,000 sqm mall has four levels and with its contemporary design, is envisioned to be a landmark in the area. Its exteriors are built with colored metal cladding, while its new interior layout is organized from a central space and circulation consisting of an atrium in the shape of an eye. This culminates in a skylight, where a series of panels recreate the shape of the atrium itself.
The glass portion on the sides of the skylight allows natural light to flow into the mall without the creation of heat, resulting not only in brighter and more spacious, but also more environmentally friendly interiors. A scenic elevator will give shoppers a breathtaking view of the mall’s different levels.
Its major anchors are the SM Department Store, which has become part of the lives of many Filipinos, and SM Supermarket, which has become known for bringing food fresh from the source.
Complementing these are fashion boutiques, home stores, bookstores, jewelry stores, shoe stores, and novelty stores. A Cyberzone with computer and telecom stores will serve the techie market, while service stores complete the shopping experience.
Eating out options include the SM Food Court, local and international fast food chains and specialty restaurants. An al fresco restaurant row will be one of the mall’s attractions.
The new mall will also have four state-of-the-art cinemas as well as amusement areas to provide entertainment to its shoppers.
For the convenience of its customers, SM City Tarlac will have a six-story building adjacent and connected to the mall with five levels exclusively for parking. It will have about 1,000 slots for parking – 800 for cars and the rest for motorcycle and jeepney parking.
The design team includes Point Design, Inc., design architect; Jose Siao Ling and Associates, architect of record; DA Abcede and Associates, project manager; and New Golden City Builders, general contractor.

Tarlaqueno-ako April 29th, 2010, 01:00 PM Building the future in the North
Camella Tarlac
North of Manila is a gateway community where the simple dreams of hardworking Filipinos serve as the cornerstone of growth. Tarlac, just 89 kilometers away from the nation’s capital, has been emerging as a promise land where the aspirations of ordinary Pinoys are coming true. The joyful hopes of starting families, retiring couples, and every determined person striving for a better life have found a home. It’s address? Camella Tarlac.
This 61-hectare development is right at the heart of Luzon – at the center, in fact, of Central Luzon. Just 15 minutes away from the Tarlac exit of the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), it is an hour and a half drive from Metro Manila, making it a viable daily commute for those who work in the capital.
Being central in the entire Luzon as well makes it a favored location for those who live in the more northern provinces to seek a second home without moving too far from their roots. Tarlac, being an agro-industrial province, provides ideal conditions for employment. The presence of special economic zones and its proximity to commercial centers has put Tarlac on the map for those seeking better opportunities but reluctant to let go of the more leisurely pace that provincial living offers.
Within Tarlac are malls such as SM, Robinsons, Magic Star Mall and Metro Town Mall. Other places of interest are the Bamban Caves in Bamban, Camp O’ Donnell and the Sto. Domingo Death March Marker in Capas, and the Dolores Springs in Tarlac City.
“Tarlac personifies the age-old mantra of the property industry: location, location location!,” said Camella President Maribeth Tolentino. “With the completion of the SCTEX, the strengthening of foreign investments in the special economic zones, and the growth of cultural and commercial hubs, this is indeed a growth area where residential properties are soon going to be in greater demand.”
Attesting to this growth is the presence of key educational institutions such as the Tarlac State University, College of the Holy Spirit, Don Bosco Technical Institute and the Philippine Women’s University.
“At the forefront of this growth is Camella,” said Dante Julongbayan, Camella head for North Luzon. In fact, with its over 30 years of experience and credibility, it is the first developer of such caliber to identify this potential and respond to the need in this area.
Camella is the nearest subdivision to the city of Tarlac. It is accessible to schools, commercial centers and entertainment places. Within its perimeter is the more affordable Lessandra series which offers a range of model homes such as Reana, Margarita, Reena and Marga, all designed to meet the various requirements of the diverse market.
The Camella Series, on the other hand, has five model home choices namely Lara, Marvela, Carmela, Drina and Elaisa.
Camella Tarlac also provides modern amenities that are available in prime residential developments. It boasts of a clubhouse, swimming pools for adults and children, basketball court, tree park, jogging path, picnic area, and playground, among others. This gated community also features round-the-clock security. Furthermore, residents can enjoy the convenience of a shuttle service from the property to a drop-off point in the province’s capital city.
Packages range from P800,000 to P3.5 million – addressing the varied requirements of the market that includes singles, newly-weds, families with children, and retirees. To date, OFWs, specifically from Italy and the Middle East, are among the biggest contributors of this growing market.
Camella Tarlac is a development of Camella, a subsidiary of Vista Land & Lifescapes, Inc., the country’s largest home builder.

Tarlaqueno-ako April 29th, 2010, 01:12 PM Pag napuno yang 61 hectares Camella sa Tarlac, ang galing, kasi it would complement the on going commercial development in the city like having a giant SM Mall...and also sana yung Fil-Invest subdivision din sa bandang Northern portion ng McArthur Hi-way sana mapuno agad. And how about yung Robinsons Subd. sa Capas kumusta kaya ang sales nila?
pinoyako2010 April 29th, 2010, 01:36 PM diba ang camella, pagmamay-ari ni Villar?

Tarlaqueno-ako April 30th, 2010, 04:26 PM Wow, salamat lap, galing mo he he. Ikaw ang nakaunang magpost ng sm pics. he he
What time na iyan nakuhanan gabi na pero dami pa ring tao.Baka nandyan mga kamag-anak ko at kababayan he he.
Sana magawan ng paraan yang traffic. Baka mamaya from Luisita traffic na iyan palagi hanggang Metrotown, pag nangyari yun, yung mga travellers papunta Baguio i-bybypass na nila Tarlac City Center. Deretso sila SCTEX Tarlac City exit sa may Lapaz.
lap_sn08 April 30th, 2010, 04:30 PM thanks, hehe, past 8 narin ata yan, dami talaga tao, grabe pa yung trapik, kaninang 3 pm mula san rafael hanggang sm yung traffic, :ohno: dapat talaga masolve yan

Clark is not a town or city... it is a FREEPort Zone just like SUBic.
Wow, salamat lap, galing mo he he. Ikaw ang nakaunang magpost ng sm pics. he he
What time na iyan nakuhanan gabi na pero dami pa ring tao.Baka nandyan mga kamag-anak ko at kababayan he he.
AS in parang EDSA revolution.
thanks, hehe, past 8 narin ata yan, dami talaga tao, grabe pa yung trapik, kaninang 3 pm mula san rafael hanggang sm yung traffic, :ohno: dapat talaga masolve yan
OO grabe as in grabe ang dami ng tao. Di mahulugang karayom ika nga. Buong Tarlac nandun at meron pang taga ibang lugar like cabanatuan, pampanga, gapan, parts of Nueva Ecija.

Tarlaqueno-ako April 30th, 2010, 04:48 PM Wow, salamat may mang Inasal. He he.

Meron ding Bacolod Chicken Inasal...
Tarlaqueno-ako April 30th, 2010, 04:54 PM Baka titingnan muna ng SM ang statistics kung possible na mag expand sila in the future. Anyway as you have said malawak pa yung space sa likod for future expansion. Like sA SM North Edsa ang haba na nila.
Ano yung Al Freisco Restaurant row na nabanggit?
pinoyako2010 April 30th, 2010, 04:54 PM Congratulations, Tarlaquenos
May SM na kayo!:cheers::):banana::cheers::):banana:
