siamu maharaj October 17th, 2007, 12:41 PM It's one of the first projects in Gwadar. Wonder how much it's progressed.
KarachiRocker October 17th, 2007, 02:32 PM u happy or sad ?
KB October 17th, 2007, 03:29 PM This project is mainly a residential one and in a city that is currently just begun construction. I dont expect this to go anywhere atleast in 10 years..maybe just some part of it.
I mean lets be realistic, take Islamabad for example...cities take decades to go anywhere and that is perfectly understandable too. So apart from some commercial offices, a few hotels and some residential areas things would take time to go anywhere.
With the beginning of the oil city, the 2nd phase of port development, some export zones things would definitely start changing which would mean more worker/laborers housing including temporary ones, few site offices and few hotels for visiting executives. Offcourse, there would be a limited good housing too for the middle/senior management and port employees, and as can be seen from the above article the chinese companies might build offices and residences for their workers, and some millitary/navy establishment because Gwadar will also be a navy base.
But big construction boom in terms of highrises, infrastructure will only come say 20 yrs from now if and when the vision is a success, with basic infrastructure complete and later investment starts to flow in...which it should be keeping in mind the geographical location and the interest of both pakistani govt and foreign nations.
So what the hype about Gwadar unnecessary or was it overhyped? My answer to that is NO but certain people ( being skyscraper enthusiasts its understandable) thought that a new city could be built from scratch and it would have a construction boom out of nowhere. At best, they are impatient..thats all. None of Dubai, Singapore or Hong Kong were made in a decade and they are the best success stories around. Dubai, with all its stategic location and oil discovery since the 60s/70s took decades before reaching anywhere.
So while I dont know if and when it could be a world-class commercial hub, but it will certainly go places and should indeed be sizeable business/transportation/energy hub of the region.
Well, thats how i see it.

IMPOSSIBLE!
People throng the beaches wearing Shalwar Kameez's and you guys are expecting topless girls there? Unless ofcourse you're talking about foreign women who might holiday at Gwadar. But them being topless would only be possible if the beach is made private and only foriengers are allowed to go there. Though the Elite would demand the same privilages as foreigners though.
EDIT: Those two girls at a beach in Karachi wearing the most proper beach attire in Pakistan were apparently part of an Office party by I think Telenor. They were Telenor employees. Thats what I found on the web.

Yes, I'm talking about foreign tourist girls. Pakistani girls won't be going topless for about another 100 years at least.

I read somewhere that gwadar waters have a lot of sea snakes in them. There is even a picture of a dead snake on flickr. IMO, that's a big problem with marketing gwadar as a tourist spot.
shay933 December 13th, 2008, 07:55 AM they should shift the capital of balochistan from quetta to gwadar after another 5-6 years as they shifted the capital of sindh from hyderabad to karachi. this would help ensure the development of the area and would also lead to higher economic growth

That is not a problem, if we were actually to WANT tourists to come sunbathe and swim on our beaches, we can put a net around a particular patch of beach to keep out any dangerous sea creatures.
siamu maharaj December 13th, 2008, 08:21 AM Gwadar's beach is about a 100 times dirtier than Karachi's. Its water (or the liquid on the beaches) is worse than at Kemari. It's BLACK. I'm not exaggerating, it's actually black.
brightside. December 13th, 2008, 08:34 AM ^^ I've been there, the water was Caribbean blue.

they should shift the capital of balochistan from quetta to gwadar after another 5-6 years as they shifted the capital of sindh from hyderabad to karachi. this would help ensure the development of the area and would also lead to higher economic growth
NO!!!!! This is exactly what the Balochis are fearful about and one of the things that they, or atleast their sardars, resent the most about the Gwadar Deep Sea Port Project. They say that "outsiders", i.e. non-Balochis, want to turn Gwadar into a minority Baloch city or a non-Baloch city. The same way they say how Karachi got turned into a minority-Sindhi city. They say, that this way, they don't want Gwadar to turn into another Karachi, i.e. swamped with non-Balochi people.
Though to address this and their fears. The government did make it clear that the first priority of jobs would go to the people of the Makran Coast. Then to the people of the rest of Balochistan and then to people from every other region of Pakistan.
However, there was a condition I think, that said, that if the local people of the Makran Coast or the rest of Balochistan aren't qualified enough, then the jobs might go to people from other areas of Pakistan. Seen as Balochistan is the least literate province of Pakistan and that Gwadar's literay rate itself is just above 25%. One of the lowest in Pakistan. The "first priority basis" extends fully to unskilled & semiskilled jobs I think.
siamu maharaj December 13th, 2008, 12:19 PM ^^ I've been there, the water was Caribbean blue.
I've been there too. Exactly which part are you talking about? I'm talking about the beach along the hammerhead. The part where all the houses are and there's a road right next to the beach.
taseer121 March 15th, 2009, 07:25 PM The development work is about 50% done, updating of web site is in process soon u can see the latest development of Deep Sea port as well as Golden PAlms.
