The fact is that many SSC users think this stadium exterior design is awful and cheap looking. It does look like a basket. It spoils a nice design from inside which I like the single tier... Thats my honest opinion and shared by many!

Anyway why is the clear section of the roof offset to one side more? Is this because they planned for the position of the sun at games times and it creates less shadow? If yes that's quite a nice feature.

I like the form which i qualify of artistic and we need this audace and talent for sport venue (cousin of cape town :) )

The only thing i criticize here it's the material which i sure it will be yellow colour within 7-8 years. I gave the example of a lille cultural house several times that nowadays it has this light cladding structure whis is yellow rather than silver:

I will wait with my opinion till the stadium is completed - The colour will brighten anyway, just like the membrane at Legia in Warsaw. The question of aging totally justifiable though.

Thats unfortunate. But no big deal. Text debate often is interpreted in many ways... I stand by my opinion. And if one cares to think about the emotion this caused with some, all comments made back were non stadium based and personal. I have one question, why are you called the arabs?

In season 1962/63 before Tannadice Park had undersoil heating, there was a very harsh winter, ice and snow covered the pitch, so in order to get the pitch ready for a Scottish Cup tie, the club hired a tar burner from the council to melt away all the ice and snow, this worked, but all the grass had burned away.

In order to get the pitch playable the chairman demanded lorry loads of sand be brought to Tannadice Park and dumped on the pitch. The sand was spread out and lines were painted, the referree said the pitch was playable so the match went ahead.

United won comfortably, with the famous phrase, Dundee United took to the sand pitch like Arabs.

The fans liked this comparison and decided to wear Arab headscarves to Cup Finals and important games as a novelty, and are still doing it to this day, I wore one to the Scottish Cup final we won back in 2010! :lol:

I would say by 0. No need. The local ub isn't likely to sell out on a regular basis, except for Europa and Champions League games. Also can't see where they could expand. Perhaps by creating a second tier that slightly overlaps the first teir, but that would ruin one of it's most charming elements.

Good for you :) Sure, they will come. But new stadium won't make up for bad football. So unless Slask continues to play really great football and work really hard on drawing crowds, people will come and then leave after they've enjoyed the stadium. It happens everywhere and the 'new stadium effect' lasts 1,5 years on avarage - counted by Delloite, I think. As a Lech fan you should know that without good football the stadium-hype won't last. Your stadium was sold out only once (and actually, not all tickets were sold even then, against Legia) and of all Polish clubs Lech is regarded as the one with most fans. Hopefully it will only get better, but only hopefully for now.

Dundee United 3 Slask 2

After an explosive start, United were 2-0 up within 5 minutes, Slask pulled one back through a free header from a corner, which was United's own fault - they use zonal marking. :ohno:

United created many chances, the Slask keeper looked quite dodgy, and your defence looked to be a weakness (apart from the left back #4). Eventually the keeper took out United striker Goodwillie - possibly should have been sent off- but a penalty was deemed to be harsh enough. Daly scored and Dundee United went ahead in the tie - 3-2 on agg.

Second half United played very defencively, trying to break forward with counter attacks. Slask controlled the midfield, and because of United's refusal to close down the Slask players were able to run at United's defense. They were rewarded with a fine goal by Dudek, a long range effort which left United's keeper helpless. This put Slask back in pole position for going through.

To United's credit, they continued to create chances, namely through #9 John Daly who stuck a right footed drive wide of the top left corner from 10 yards out in stoppage time. Therefore Slask win 3-3 on the away goal ruling.

It was an interesting game, and the atmosphere of the home crowd was improved both by early goals but also in trying to out sing the 2000 Slask fans.

I am disappointed, but given all the chances, it is fair to say either team could have proceeded tonight, Slask rode their luck at times tonight but ultimately came through because they were stonger and fitter players.

We had no problems in Dundee with your fans, all the best with the new stadium and the coming season.

No, they aren't :) They are the most well known grounds close to one another, but are no match for stadiums in Montevideo - they've got 4 venues next to each other (and a lot closer in fact than in Dundee), all with top flight clubs and derbies...

Michal.I take your point about the small stadiums around the "Estadio Centenario",home of the national team.These are :-

1.Parque Palermo(6000 capacity,home of Central Espanol)
2.Parque Mendez Piana(6000 capacity,home of Miramir)

The difference,is that they are "MULTI USE"stadiums and not "SENIOR football stadiums" of individual clubs.If you want to go down that road,then Hampden park,Glasgow is right next to "Lesser Hampden",sometimes used by football club "Queens Park".So they would be mentioned.However,ill rephrase it to what "Wikipedia" and lots of websites will tell you i.e.

"Dundee Utd and Dundee fc-the 2 stadia are the CLOSEST "SENIOR" FOOTBALL GROUNDS ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD.(not multi use stadiums)

People in Cardiff,Wales say there stadiums are closer(next to Millenium Stadium),but they are not "SENIOR"football stadiums,but again,"MULTI USE"as its a Rugby team and the national team,next to each other.

Why are people criticizing the facade of this stadium? seems pretty similar to cape town to me. Good to see a single tier stadium built, none of this multiple tiers bullshit.

Loving this stadium though, looks better at night when the light it up, but once landscaped I think the exterior will look good any time of day. And the bowl is fantastic.

Actually, the architects of both companies contacted each other and agreed that none has copied each-others work (though of course Zenith was first) and settled that the shape they both used is something that should not be copyrighted by anyone - it does take from the lantern of eastern Asia after all...

Still, I think the sole selection of aggressive colours in the French one make it completely different - Wroclaw has not only the shape itself, but also the colours done a lot more 'plainly' (not in the bad way, it's simple and that's nice as well, Zenith is more dynamic and that's also great)

Wroclaw and Warsaw are my favourites of Euro 2012, especially the area which surrounds the Wroclaw stadium with the esplanade and facilities below.

I think the architects of planned stadia in countries such as the UK can learn a lot from the excellence of the Wroclaw and Warsaw Euro 2012 stadia.

Looking real good! The pitch looks great but I am little worried, seems like towards the one corner flag, its very brown. Is that normal? Has to be an easy fix though.

I share your sentiments, but the green from renders is not the green of Slask Wroclaw. And since they are the tennants, they should be able to take a stand on that. Just like in Lille we should only see red seats if that's what Lille and their fans would prefer :)

Looks great, nice to have a single tier stadium to throw into the mix, bit of a rarity these days.

From the pictures in Kotasiks post I notice the lack of symmetry in regards to the transparent parts of the roof; is this done because of the way the sun hits the ground or is this just to be badass?

Wrocław has the right to be proud, not only because of the final result - stadium looks great - but also because they managed to do it on time. Two years ago it wasn't so obvious. And now, in the oncoming weeks, we'll face the grand opening! And for that I can have some :cheers:

Are they really going to finish everything before September 10th or are we just talking about the stadium and parking lot? Allthough, it looks like it's things are being done at fanominal pace, there is still a lot to be done around the stadium.

The city council will hahve to wait until 7th Sept. for the final decision if the stadium can be used for the mass spectator event as well. Then if it is negative, they will have only 3 days for any corrections.

Nothing is known how the public and individual transport systems will be organized so far.
For all travelling to Wroclaw - please keep in mind that there may be some communication problems before and after the events in Sept.

- Some trees with a big open area planned to be topped with gravel in a few months.
- A huge and ugly open-air car park
- Oppressive looking metallic fencing and some hamburger stands.

Tremendous stadium. Wasn't sure that I could like any of the other stadiums in comparison to Gdansk, but this is rather special. Love the green seating as well. Knowing what Slask currently plays out of, this is a palace by comparison.

The total number of seats is 44 116, the capacity declared officially is 42 771, so the difference may be your answer. (however, it may also not be the answer as there have been several different numbers given for this venue)

That was not a regular game. Just an official training session only for limited number of visitors (10k people), as the stadium was then still 'under construction' and could not be used for mass spectator events. It can be used from today, but there is still a lot to be done (inside and outside). You may expect over 42k people tomorrow at the boxing gala.

A Boxing Gala or a Euro 2012 match is something else. Will the Slask fans come in big numbers at regular championship games?

The club's business plan expects the average attendance to be around 20-22k. We'll see if it is realistic or not. Taking into account Poznań or Gdańsk new stadiums (also for over 40k) and the attendance there so far, it may be a right number for Wroclaw.

Comparing Slask to Lech seems to be far premature (and even Lech have their trouble with attendance). Just like judging Lechia's attendances after a few games at the Arena when a mass of people were interested primarily in the stadium itself. Their fascination won't last long and then a more realistic number for long-term prognosis will appear. We'll just have to watch which club makes the most of the early boom. One thing sure is no sellouts on a regular basis in any of these cases.

Possibly end of October. There are plans for Śląsk-Lech game on 24th Sept., but it is rather unrealistic date due to the George Michael concert on 17th Sept. and the condition of the pitch afterwards. Also on 1st Oct. there is another big event (Monster Trucks) that could additionally damage the pitch. And the club has not signed the contract witht the stadium operator (SMG) yet.

Possibly the first game will be Śląsk-Lechia on (weekend of 28-31 October).

Edit: your question was just on time ;) It was just confirmed that the first game will be played on 30th October against Lechia Gdańsk.

The contract between SMG (as the stadium operator) and the club is still not signed. This is the first and the most important issue.

The second one: well, the never-ending story with the construction process. The stadium was accepted as finished (well, partially, but in such state that can host mass spectator events) only one day before the fight. The construction works contiune, and will probably finish at the end of February. There is still a lot to be done.

The third: the Polish legalistation regarding the mass spectator events. The stadium is still not in a state that could host a regular football game (including visiting fans). In this aspect it is up to the SMG (the operator), the city, the club and the Police to agree on all of the aspects.

The fourth: the events (the fight, the concert and the monsters) were contracted some time ago, and simply has priority over the Śląsk games. Anyway, Śląsk still uses the old stadium at Oporowska street.

^^ nope. There are no problems with the pitch. It was simply covered during the past two events (the boxing gala and concert). There will be another event: moster jam tomorrow, and after it the grass will be replaced. The new one is ready and waiting.

Am I the only one that they are playing on this new pitches way too soon? They lay the pitch and two weeks later (or less) they are playing there already. Same happened in Bucharest, same in Turin...here. I´m no grass expert, far from it, but doesn´t it need some more time to be perfect and not damaged?

^^ They will have 4 weeks from tomorrow for new pitch installation. Should be enough for the removal of the damaged pitch (and possibly some installations) and layout of new one.

The old one was damaged because of two big events that were organized on the pitch. There is the last one today (moster trucks). Then it will be football only for the next months until the end of EURO2012.

It is worth to mention that the grass was laid at this stadium at the end of construction, and no match was played on it. Now, because of these two events the grass needs to be replaced with a new one. Great economy with money of taxpayers.

Depending on the event being held on the stadium diffrent seats are "blind". For football game angle is diffrent, for music concert diffrent. So depending on event, diffrent places are blocked.

There will be no shopping mall. Project was dropped. The most probable scenario is that area will be once again in city's hands and they will sell it to another investor.
City is also thinking how to use it during Euro2012

This is one good looking stadium. I like how the stands are not divided into two or three different tiers like most of the the stadiums built today. The exterior looks nice and from what I can tell by looking at the pictures, there is plenty of parking space. :cheers:

Croke Park and Thommond Park aren't bad at all as well :)

As for Wroclaw - it seems at this point that as much as it is a really unique venue, it has a lot of flaws. The biggest one being membrane covering the facades that is extremely dirty though was supposed to be stain-resistant and not requiring any cleaning at all. Then they said some water will do. And now they're saying only special detergents will keep it clean, but will have to be cleaned repeatedly. Below you can see a photo from Maciek of the Polish forum from yesterday. It shows a piece of membrane that was cleaned. Now compare it to the above and when you realize the membrane's been there only for a few months, it really looks worrying.

Poland is long overdue. One of Europe's biggest nations with rising economic influence, coupled with the fact that it got awarded a Euro, helps things along quite nicely. Outside of Russia (who now is underway as well with 2018), Turkey and perhaps Ukraine (lesser extent), Poland is/was really the last European nation that was underdeveloped in terms of stadia.

What is most impressive is how a Euro Championship can have such a drastic effect on the infrastructure of a large nation. It also seems to have a contagion effect, where every council/club gets the bug.

Amazing what a simple decision can have on a country.

Could someone please tell us why the membrane material used to wrap the Wroclaw stadium has not faded to a white colour yet?
The present plaster colour is horrible and looks about as graceful as a sack of potatoes.

The membrane was supposed to have faded to white about a month ago so I wonder what's gone wrong.

My eyesight is good but I still can't detect any significant degree of whiteness in the mebrane shown in post #987. Just a patch which is ever so slightly whiter than the rest of the membrane.
If we can have faith in the professional assurances that the membrane will eventually fade to white, that's fine.

But as things stand it still has that woeful "worek kartofli" colour (potatoe sack brown). Worryingly, most of the membarne still looks as whiteless as it did when first mounted 4 or 5 months ago.
