How many stadium competition do you have in Wroclaw?

I'm not sure what you mean, but if you are about how many competitions: there was one and it seems final.
If you mean how many designers took part: 15 (including HOK, GMP, Lamela and a few other big names, but they didn't get far).
And if you mean howm any stadiums there are in Wroclaw that could be competition to this one- there is the veeeery old Olympic Stadium for +/- 35 000 and a small stadium of Slask (future tenant of the JSK stadium) for some 6 000. :)

The stadium will glow in different colours (red, white when poland is playing and green when the club team is playing).

The design was inspired by a chineese lamp.

If I don't get you wrong, the new stadium will not be built in place of the old Olympic Stadium. Is that correct? Where do they build it? And why don't they "replace" the Olympic Stadium?

The Olympic Stadium is used mostly for speedway (there is a strong team - Sparta Wroclaw and Wroclaw was also a host of Speedway Grand Prix several times). The new stadium won't have speedway track which means it'll stay closed for speedway riders.

This stadium is being built in Wroclaw, which is a different city then Warsaw. It is not being built on the site of the Stadion Dziesieciolecia, as there is no such stadium in Wroclaw.

As to the national stadium in Warsaw, yes it is being built on the Stadion X-Lecia (most likely, not yet confirmed). However it will not have a running track, and will be a football-only venue.

Actually one Polish "yellow press" website also claimed this stadium is a copy of the Zenith Arena. But it came out that both designs were prepared seperately, without each of the architects knowing about the other one. When the Polish architects of JSK heard about Zenith they contacted the architect. Both sides agreed that none of them holds the copyright to this shape as both companies based their concept on the universal shape of a Chinese lamp. So if anyone could have prolems with it, it would be the Chinese ;)
And the shape is the only thing the designs have in common. Their scale is different, uses will differ as well and the construction techniques are different. So it's actually a coinsidence- agreed by architects of both venues.

Maybe someone from Warsaw will get furious after that what I wanna say, however I don't care... In my opinion stadium in Wrocław is the most interesting and also the most beautiful of all of arenas proposed to organise games in case of Euro 2012. Please, don't condemn me, guys, but that's my personal idea. I agree with you 100%. It's about time that there was a new 40,000+ 1 tier stadium. For me there i makes the atmosphere better as well as making it look very original. Hopefully there will be more 1 tier stadiums popping up now, I have got a bit tired of 2/3 tier bowl stadiums.

@krzysiu: That's what I said. Everyone can follow diffrent point of view. Of course, we can compare few tournament's stadiums to each other, we can also talk about their advantages and disadvantage, about their design and all of their functions etc; to reach common opinion, to choose one of them as just the best one... But, what I was talking about, my opinion is only my own, you don't have to agree with me, obviously. You can share your opinion too, however, please, don't say I've missed something in spreading my point of view! From Warsaw and from Gdansk
And from Krakow
no, just kidding. kind of sad that I have no argument to boast about our stadium...
But Cracovia's one will be top quality! Nooo... that also sounds weird.

Shit.

Anyway Mo, you sure served krzysiu_ :)
Krzysiu_ - I know you're damn proud of Baltycka, everyone in your place would. But be sure that people may like other ones more. Even if these are one-tiered Chinese lamps. :)

By the way, to settle the score, I have to say that neither GMP, nor RKW presented anything of top originality. Green Point is fantastic, but mostly because of where it is, not how/what it is. It's just a classic and classy design, like most others by GMP. While Baltycka is a modern and trendy design, but also no brand new quality in football stadiums...

So this leaves us with Narodowy, which is again - another GMP/JSK classy design with a bit of that "theming" trend (the basketweave), but nothing particularly astonishing. Then Krakow. OK, skip. Then Poznan - skip! So that means, as much as I cannot handle it - yes, Wroclaw is the most original and possibly best quality football ground of 2012. Ukraine included.

Green Point will have the same "lamp" "lantern" effect at night as Wroclaw. I'd certainly prefer this design over the Baltic Arena anyday.

Is the factory newly built to produce the concrete for the stadium construction or was it there before the construction started? I feel like the factory is so small for ordinary concrete production that I can't imagine it was built for other uses in consideration. Anyway I've never seen the case people built a concrete producing plant only for stadium construction if the former is the case. It's very very unique.

^^ Costruction of our stadiums really started a month ago. Stadium in Poznan will be finish in spring 2010, others in 2011. But you must remember, preparing to Euro it's not only stadiums. It's high-speed roads, hotels, local transport, and Ukraine still have problem with this.

PiotrG
June 3rd, 2009, 07:42 PM
What with that?
In Poland construction of stadiums started later, on account of legal procedures as well as the time necessary to prepare projects of stadiums. Thanks to that construction is in 100 % safe, built by consortiums of companies meeting all norms. Projects of Polish stadiums are complicated, but thanks to that buildings will be modern, beautiful and multifunctional (beneath podiums not only surfaces will be for fans but also for the business). The pace of construction of buildings in Poland will sell the schedule accepted by the UEFA off, and none of companies building stadiums can let himself delays, or else they will be put on not huge financial penalties.
The EURO will be in 2012 r and not now, as a matter of fact the recent decision showed the UEFA, that Poland is performing all obligations, and construction is progressing quickly. Whether at present stadiums are built isn't significant, important so that are ready for the EURO - and there is in Poland no threat of dates of construction.

NMAISTER007

I agree with you, yet this is a good advantage for Poland and Ukraine to improve their infrastructure. Both countries will start to look like the very rich ones (Italy, Germany, France, Austria etc.)

So i just can't wait till Ukraine will join the EU (Just like Poland did not too long ago) and will be part of a very modern environment.

Smaller countries will always have to keep telling the rest of the world that they are able to host major events and no matter what you say you will always have critics. we as south africans know that all too well, with all the talk of fifa taking the world cup somewhere else and people questioning whether we could build the stadiums on time. in comes with the privilege of hosting these major events.

ooo nice, concrete is there, this one has got cracking.

Jeez, seems like all the stadiums in Poland are flying along atm, I mean they took a while to get the plans sorted and all but now they are all flying along. I hear they are working on this one day and night.

This and Baltic Arena are my two fav designs in Poland, very clean and elegant.

Yes, you're right but a little excuse can be fact, that in July was torrential rain which was several hundred percent higher than the norm, and the place of construction was still flooded. But of course, something goes slowly.

Lots of American Collegiate stadiums. Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor seats 108,000 in one tier (with some suites stacked up on the sides. The Rose Bowl seats 92,000, California Memorial Stadium seats 75,000, The Yale bowl seats 64,000 ect.
Lambeau Field in Green Bay seats 72,000. The Roman arena and Greek Hippodrome models were taken pretty literally, and so there are lots of big single level elliptical stadiums in the US.

Possibly related to what has been put on the Lviv thread. The fact that this is at the same stage as Lviv, which is smaller and you'd think would be quicker to construct, and there are concerns that when UEFA visit in November they aren't going to be best pleased! Yet Wroclaw must have an later expected finish date than Lviv (I don't know - depends on how much later the construction of this stadium was started I guess).

I believe that for UEFA the most important is if there is reasonable plan agreed, accepted and financed and then planned milestones are reached on time. In Wroclaw works on Stadium are going according to schedule, while Lviv has delay.

Anyway, I cross fingers Ukraine will manage to be ready on time.

A date of finishing the stadium is January 2011. It is written in the agreement with the general contractor. In case of any delays the contractor will pay fines, so they will finish in time (the date is real, after finishing the first storey a construction will begin from prefabricated elements, so the stadium will be "grow" quickly)
Construction is safe, financing is in 100 % assured, so it is possible to be calm. Here is other situation than in other cities on account of the type of the project, soon much it is increasing the pace of works thanks to prefabricated elements.
Don't worry, be happy. :D

Where is it written?? At first everyone was saying that the stadiums must be finished by mid 2010, but it wasnt true. In many big events the stadiums were UC even a few weeks before the start, like Athens, in Beijing last year they were still working on the stadium, same thing last year for Euro 2008 with one of the stadiums.

We need to finish the stadiums by May 2012, but they will be ready by the end of 2011 even if we dont have to do that.
