Rarely you see Ladas, sometimes you see Nivas, those Porsche and Audi TT cars are rarely seen in Sofia only. The most luxury police car in my hometown is a BMW. Besides, those cars are not confiscated from drug lords, etc. They are stolen cars that someone tried to import to Bulgaria and got confiscated by the border officials. Some of them are eventually used as police cars but the sad fact is that most of those stolen cars just sit on the border or police parkings and noone uses them. Usually there is a period given for the real owners to claim it back, but many cars are not claimed and just pile up there.

In Bulgaria we have a big variety of police cars.Unfortunately, still there are some ladas from the communist era but currently there is a contest for the delivery of 900 new cars which will most probably be Opel.

Why there is word 'police' on those cars? Doesn't greek language have its own word with the same meaning?

Good question, mainly for foreigners to understand it i guess, the Greek word is the one you see in the police logo that is painted in the cars.
Also one could say that while in most of the other languages the word police is somehow quite the same, the Greek one is completely different,and as for the alphabet, its not the problem, the language is the main issue.

Just like "rendőrség" - Hungarian for "police". Finns have a normal name - "poliisi", Estonians have "politsei". Bare in mind that Hungarian, Finnish (suomi) and Estonian are Finno-Ugric languages, but only Hungarians have the "code word". :lol:

Yes, the cannon was tried out this monday on the bad guys, and proved to be much more efficient than the old ones :) It is nice that the cars got a uniform decor, the old ones looked so cheap, all of them were totally white with a simple "Rendőrség" text on them. The Audi is used by the government guard, unfortunately that is the only one of the kind...

Overall, I think they're one step ahead of us in law enforcement. I don't really like the kind of wuss police we have in Romania, and I think we can generalize to almost whole of EE.

I think the majority are actually well suited for police cars (aspect, power and other things).

That's not true... I mean not in Hungary. It depends on the circumstances though...

I think the police here works fine(most of the time),and with the brand new cars...I dont know when did I last see an old police car. Now we just have to wait for the same thing to happen the firefighters and to the ambulance.

I agree, there is a reason why almost every police force in North America uses large freeway cruisers like the Crown Vic. Because of its sheer size and extremely sturdy construction (it weighs over four thousand pounds, that's 1800+ kilos to you euros) it allows a well trained officer to perform maneuvers that just aren't possible in smaller cars, like hit another car and make it spin out. How some police forces can use compact cars baffles me.

In my place regular cops mostly use Opel Astra, Peugeot Partner, Opel Combo, last pieces of Polonez cars, VW T4, T5 and Ford Transit. I'd rather see Astras and VWs only, as they are made in Poland. Traffic cops drive Astras, Octavias, Passats, Vectras and Mondeos - both marked and unmarked. Plus tehre are several pieces of other cars - Toyota Avensis, Mitsubishi Carisma, Daewoo Lanos and Nubira. I hope you don't think we (in Slovakia) use only Audis and cars like that. Our Ministry of Interior just recently renewed police cars by buying Kia Ceeds and VW Golfs. I would say that Kia Ceed is the most common police car which can be seen in Slovakia. Those Audis and stuff like that is used as highway patrol on Slovak motorways and expressways. We used VW Passasts before, but they were just too old and slow to catch up with present modern cars. So we bought those expansive cars not because of some prestige, but because it was necessary.

No, the Romanian police uses Logans and Passats in about 90% of cases, the rest of 10% goes to Nubiras, Cielos, a few Cherokees, and maybe some old Jettas. It also uses BMW bikes. I think these were posted before on this thread.

Nevertheless, I think those are not policemen per se, but rather a special class of order enforcement BELOW the jandarmerie (politia comunitara). To some extent, their position as the least important among police forces may explain their funny outfit.

^^They don't look like communitary police to me. Their uniforms look like those of the national police (only much lamer).:) I never fully understood what's the deal with this communitary police anyway... They seem to be a cross between a national police force and a city level police force, which is very stupid. Why can't we have a single police force? Or better yet... have a single police force, but in important cities also have city police. I guess this would be way to complex for our little brains...

Again, why can't we just learn from others? France and UK have model police forces; Germany too. I'm not even talking about the US, cause that is way above our tiny picnic heads.:)

Anyway, it's good to see that not all countries in EE are going through this police pussyfication process; Hungary, Slovakia and Poland, for example, look like they have what it takes, so to speak.:D

We now dont have border guards...border guards and some other law-enforcement branches were merged with the police because of Schengen.

And now some police cars from the Republic of Macedonia.

In 1998, Macedonia invested large sum of DM to update its old and aging work horses like Zastavas and Yugos in this public sector. Some Golf II were present as well. The rare Audis, Mercs and Beemers were confiscated at the borders crossing and mostly used for government purpose. The new solution were brand new cars like Chryslers (consists probably 60% of the cars), VW Polos and some other models. Here are some photos.

I think they were not posted because they are very rare. Nor I can find pictures of them on the net.

Cherokees are mainly used in mountainous areas, but I do not know how many of them the Police has. I know they have them because I have seen them on mountain roads.

As to the NUbiras and Cielos, they may as well have been worn out so far. They used to be very much present on streets before 2000....I know I have seen a few of them on the streets recently, but can't find pictures of those either.

That's actually VW Vento(In Europe)...Jetta's are made for US version.

Czech police decided to change painting scheme of their cars to silver color with blue stripes . Curently they are using white cars with green stripes.

White w. green stripe looks cheap and we're rich developed country.That's it :lol: Fortunately new century for czech police has arrived:horse: In 50s and 60s czech police used blue cars with white stripes, so blue is traditional color of our police.

Apparently the EU has suggested that blue should be the standard police colour. As for silver, it's said that the Metropolitan Police in London have switched to silver cars because white cars are impossible to sell.
