Background Information
A design proposal / closed competition for a proposed 100m Putrajaya Tower, in Putrajaya to be located near the Dataran Putrajaya.

The project brief calls for an 100 meters observation tower, overlooking the administrative center of Putrajaya, which will be used as a tourist destination and attraction. The tower will also include a revolving restaurant, visitor center / gallery and an observation deck.

Design Approach
Our concept is based on abstract interpretation of the “Sirih Junjung”; a quid of betel consisting of betel (sirih) leaves, betel nut (pinang) tobacco and gambir combined and folded neatly together and held in place by a clove. The folded leaves also symbolizes and represent unity. Furthermore, the offering of a sirih quid set (Sirih Junjung) carries a welcoming message to the receiver, the giver symbolically presents himself humbly before the receiver.

In our design, we have incorporated 2 observation deck, one at 20 metres and the other at 80 meters. This is to allow tourists to view the administrative center at different levels.

Unusual and interesting design. I prefer a more slender tower myself, rather than one quite so bottom heavy.

an observation deck at 20m also? i dont think we'll have nice and clear view at that level..it is just 5 stories high.

With no clear view, the observation deck ll be useless even the charge is free.

Putrajaya to get viewing tower

PUTRAJAYA: A viewing tower, more football fields and possibly even an indoor stadium are among the plans proposed for the future development of the federal administrative centre.

Putrajaya Corporation president Tan Sri Samsuddin Osman said a 0.40ha piece of land in front of the Finance Ministry building in Precinct 2 had been allocated to build the tower, which was expected to draw tourists.

“Construction of the tower is expected to cost some RM30mil and will take two years to complete.

“We are now in the process of appointing a local consultant to conduct a study on it.

“We are also in the process of calling for tenders to construct more football fields in Precinct 5. An indoor stadium is also a possibility,” he told reporters after attending the launch of the kite festival yesterday.

The festival was held in conjunction with the Federal Territories Day celebration.

Viewing Tower Attraction For Putrajaya :)

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 3 (Bernama) -- A 100- metre high viewing tower will be built here, for visitors to get an aerial view of the country's administrative capital.

Perbadanan Putrajaya President Tan Sri Samsudin Osman said the tower costing more than RM30 million, would be built at the pasar malam (night market) site opposite the Finance Ministry building.

He said the authorities were in the process of appointing a consultant for the project which would take two years to complete. Work is expected to begin in the middle of the year.

"The project will be carried out in line with Perbadanan Putrajaya's objective to develop Putrajaya into a major tourist destination in the country.

"The proposed viewing tower will provide Putrajaya with another landmark, besides the Putra Mosque, Heritage Park, the Wetlands, Botany Park and the Millennium Monument," said Samsudin.

He was speaking to reporters at the opening of a kite festival, held in conjunction with the Federal Territories Day.

Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Zulhasnan Rafique officiated the opening of the festival here, Sunday.

Meanwhile, Samsudin said a covered stadium would be built at Precinct 5 for residents to indulge in sports and recreational activities.

"We also plan to organise international-level water sports in November," he said.

interesting design but i don't quite like the top...

don't you guys think the location is kinda odd?? IMO it spoils the Haussmanian boulevard effect... looks imbalanced..

Bad location. It doesn't integrate well with the Boulevard design. Could be better if placed alone by the lake with garden and fountain surrounding it.
