MIRVAC BEGINS $42M SOUTH BANK OFFICE BUILDING PROJECT

The mirvac group has started construction of its latest
inner city commecial property - a $42 million office
building at 189 Grey street at South Bank.

More than 25 per cent of the 12,745sq m building has
been pre-committed by queensland-based
construction company Thiess Pty Ltd. Thiess has
signed an eight-year lease and will relocate from
its current premise in Milton to occupy levels five
through seven in the 12-level building when it is
completed in August next year.

The building will consist of two ground levels of office
space with 1645sq m per floor plates.

Mirvac Queensland cheif executive Chris Freeman
said the company was developing the 189 Grey St
project through a construction management
agreement with Thiess and Mirvac was planning to
retain the building as an investment.

Mr Freeman said there was a demand for high quality
A grade commercial office space in the South Bank
area.

He said the success of Mirvac's Arbour on Grey
project underpinned the popularity of the area as a
thriving commercial, retail and residential precinct.

"The innovative design and incorporation of the latest
technologies in the building will most certainly
complement the environment, the public transport
and parklands - which are all huge advantages of
companies looking for new premises," Mr Freeman
said.

South Bank Corporation chief executive officer Bill
Grant said 189 Grey Street would further enhance the
vitality of South Bank.

"Grey street has established itself as a vital business
district and is central to the vibrant lifestyle that
exists at South Bank," Mr Grant said.

No pix from me, but it is now taller than the current Thiess building, so I presume it is very close to toppping out.

It is getting pretty close to finishing. They're finished putting the walls on the back and both sides, but I don't think the front is very complete (it is covered by green mesh so it is difficult to see) The last section on top was being worked upon last weekend, and I would say it would be finished by the end of the week; next at the latest.

This is finished - last time I drove by chairs and desks were being carried in. I even think the last wall has been painted (the one which doesn't really need to be since something will be built right up against it). And only 6 months late - pretty good.
