Persan October 30th, 2007, 03:29 PM Iran builds 1st solar hotel on Kish
Iran is scheduled to build its first seven-star hotel with a supplementary solar energy system on Kish Island over the next two years.
The two-year project with an estimated budget of 520,000,000 dollars is aimed at completing the hotel in Kish in the southern province of Hormozgan by 2009-10.
"Generating electricity from the sun is a very expensive project but I mean to bring this technology to Iran," said Hossein Sabet investor of the solar hotel.
"Now that other countries are imposing sanctions on Iran, building such a hotel is an important step in tourism development," concluded Sabet, manager of Kish Island's Dariush Grand Hotel.

As long as Sabet keeps it running it'll be a good hotel.. the man's an entrepreneurial genius.

Persan October 31st, 2007, 03:53 AM As long as Sabet keeps it running it'll be a good hotel.. the man's an entrepreneurial genius.
I agree! He just needs a good hotel management company. With the Dariush, he hired Rezidor (who manage Radisson SAS), but I think they had to stop because an American company bought Rezidor. There are still other non-American hotel management companies which are even better: Four Seasons, Shangri-La, Mandarin-Oriental, etc...
Let's hope he chooses one of these companies to manage the new hotel.
persian October 31st, 2007, 11:38 AM Very good news. Sabet is a very preofessional man and I hope he builts this.
panj-delaavaraan October 31st, 2007, 05:22 PM This is good news, but I really do not like the term "7 Star"... I mean it makes no sense to me that the best hotels in Europe and in the US are not 7 stars, yet, by my count anyway, this is the fourth "7 star" that Iran is building??? This one, FOE, the one in Shiraz and one in Mazandaran, right??
I think that label is silly.

Fair enough...
I'm not sure to be honest... I remember reading articles that said it was going to be a seven star...
Perhaps this one will be completed sooner than the FOE Hotel... I suspect that project has faced mass delays.

Yes, Iran is "backwards" by European standards, but who the hell wants to compare themselves with Europe anymore? Europe is a has-been power - No one takes them (or even the EU) seriously anymore. Iran needs to develop but shouldn't look to Europe as it's goal.

persian November 4th, 2007, 07:13 PM Great article thank you.
Persan November 5th, 2007, 01:01 AM Could you translate it?
persian November 7th, 2007, 11:25 AM It says:
Iran's 2nd 7 star hotel and its first solar hotel will be built. The cost will be more than 120 billion Toman and will be built by private investor. They use solar energy in this hotel for the first time in the middle east. The name of the hotel will be Kourosh and it will have 500 rooms and an area of 100,000 square meters. The hotel will have 23 floors and will be built near the Dolphin park and will be finished in 18 months!!
It also says that by the end of the year they will start the building of four 5* hotels.
The rest of it is nothing important. :)
persian November 10th, 2007, 03:56 PM you're welcome.
shugs November 14th, 2007, 05:46 PM Another article on the project:
Kish Hotel to Use Solar Energy
Construction work at the first hotel using solar energy to meet its electricity demands began in Kish Island, southern Hormuzgan province on Monday.
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony of the seven-star hotel in Kish, managing director of Kish Free Trade Zone Organisation expressed his full support to private investors involved in different sectors of the economy, particularly the tourism industry.
In a fax to Iran Daily, the organization's Public Relations Department quoted Majid Shayesteh as saying that about 80 percent of the economic activities in Kish Island are conducted by the private sector. He described the island as a role model for implementing Article 44 of the Constitution (which seeks large-scale privatization).
Also, managing director of Sabet International Firm underlined that construction of the solar-powered hotel would be a great honor for the country.
Hossein Sabet said that although the installations for converting solar energy to electricity for the hotel would be expensive, he will seek to bring in the technology to the country, IRNA reported.
The 500-bedroom hotel is being constructed in 23 stories in an area of 100,000 square meters within Dolphin Park in Kish Island.
Some 1.2-1.3 trillion rials have been anticipated for constructing the hotel.
Officials from Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, a number of lawmakers from Majlis Tourism Fraction and representatives from executive bodies of the island attended the ceremony. Boasting sun-baked beaches and spectacular sunset, Kish Island is extended over an area of 91 square kilometers.
Sabet, the investor of the groundbreaking project, owns several hotels and tourism attractions in the Canary Island.
The European-Iranian hotel tycoon also has built and developed Kish's luxury hotel Dariush in 2003. Dariush, a $125 million five star hotel with over 200 guest rooms is located near the eastern sandy beaches of the island. The hotel was built to be a reminder of Persepolis, a symbol of the glory and splendor of the ancient Iranian civilization.

World's Largest Solar Hotel to Be Constructed in Iran
The 7 star Cyrus Hotel is supposed to be built in Kish Island by Hossein Sabet in a field with an area of 100,000 square meters and the square footage of 60,000 square meters in 23 floors.
This week on Monday and on the birthday of Cyrus the great, the inauguration for the beginning of the construction of the first and the biggest 7 star hotel in the world, equipped with the solar energy, and also the inauguration of the grand multifunctional hall of "Jamshid" was held in Kish Island. A group of officials, members of parliament, and journalists and reporters in the area of tourism were present in this ceremony.
Hossein Sabet is the builder and owner of these two unique and great complexes who has so far constructed 5 tourist-entertainment complexes in Kish Island including "Daryush(Darius) Hotel", "Dolphin Park", and "Birds Garden". He also owns five hotels in Canary Islands.
Talking to the reporters, Hossein Sabet said he hopes he would enjoy more legal (constitutional) and spiritual support from the government and local officials in Kish Island and other parts of Iran.
He told the reporters that the seriousness and sensitivity of Ayatollah Khameneie, the supreme leader , about immediate and complete fulfillment of the 44th act of the constitution is the main support, confidence, and hope for those investors whose heart beats for the economic growth and development of Iran.
The 7 star Cyrus Hotel is supposed to be built by Hossein Sabet in a field with an area of 100,000 square meters and the square footage of 60,000 square meters in 23 floors. The cost of building the hotel has been estimated over $160,000,000 and it will take 2 or 3 years.
The Cyrus Hotel will only use the solar energy.

Rahmani November 14th, 2007, 11:09 PM 3 years ago a high ranking consultant to the Iranian government told me that by the start of the new 5 year plan (2010-2014) Kish would become a free zone for tourist. Lifting visa restriction, and some strict Islamic laws (for some parts of Kish). Making Kish more attractive for tourists.
With all these mega-investments in tourism, I guess his story makes more sense every year.

persianpride May 24th, 2008, 01:31 PM hi everyone, this is my first post but iv been visiting this site for many years. i was jus wonderin if theres any updates on the construction of the cyrus hotel in kish....tnx:)
_BPS_ November 24th, 2008, 09:45 PM Interesting.. anyone know when it will be completed? If it takes longer than 2 years, then it may become the 4th 7-star hotel in the world, instead of 3rd (1 and 2 in UAE). There is a 7-star hotel being constructed right now in Islamabad, designed by Atkins (same people who built Burj al-Arab), due to finish within 2 years. But like most Pakistani large-scale projects, it might hit a delay or slow down. Anyways, I think Kish Island is a great place to build such nice hotels, and if it powered by solar energy then it could set examples for the region to follow. I really hope this project goes through. Goodluck!

There's a chance that the hotel won't be compeleted than the hotel will, so don't be so hopeful about it. The Flower of the East taught us alot.
iman08 March 3rd, 2009, 12:10 AM ^^No, I think this one will be finished, because 2 months ago I saw an interview with the investor who is also one of the investors of Flower of the East said, that Flower of the East will take longer ... and there are some problems with the timetable and the German company because of the sanctions... .But he said, that the Solar Hotel is being built very well and it is more built than Flower of the East. I also saw some renders of it. The design of the 7 star hotel of Flower of the East isn't comparable to this one , the F. of the East Hotel is much prettier than this, but this one is also pretty:). The project is much smaller than the one of F. of the E., so it has more chances to be built completely. I am optimistic about this project. The hotel is similar to Dariush Hotel in Kish whose investor was the same as the investor of this project.U can never compare such a big project with this one, a big project has more the possibility of a stop... .

Persiancat March 3rd, 2009, 12:55 AM But isn't Farsi the same as persian I mean Persia is also Called in "Persian" Fars

We don't say Francais or Deutsch when we describe the French or German languages, do we? Persian is the English for Farsi. The reason I think that I think the people shouldn't use Farsi is because the word "Persian" will slowly die off and such things as Persian Carpets and the Persian Gulf will no longer be associated with Iran.
iman08 March 3rd, 2009, 11:48 PM ^^Well that's good news! if you find any pictures of the construction please share:)
I certainly will do that, if I find any render of the project/hotel. As per my mind there were about 15-20 floors.
Montyleeny15 July 25th, 2009, 12:45 PM I also heard that Cyrus Hotel (solar powered 7 star hotel) will be complete in October 2009 (3 months from now) and it will be the first solar-powered hotel in Middle-East. Even Dubai doesn't have solar-powered hotels? It could sure show off Iran's impressive knowledge on how to build such hotels in the region using this technology. Lets hope all the best! =)
