Towns & Cities in prosperous Oman

The most amaazing country I've been so far--Oman !

The country is prosperous , the people are more than friendly, the economy is flourishing, food is superb and cheap, the natural setting is extremely gorgeous, the standards of living is extremely high, infrastructure is well-developed, except for 3-4 months of Summar the country has perfect weather all year round. A definite paradise on earth !

Well, from what I saw-- the level of infrastructure in Oman, is obviously better. UAE has superb infrastructure, but its suffering from "overcapasity " problem --while driving in Muscat is always smooth and hassle-free. In UAE, I can see huge gap between urban and rural parts in terms of quality of structures/ commercial facilities etc, but in Oman I didn't spot any big difference between Muscat and rural areas. Muscat is not as rich as Dubai and Abu Dhabi though.. but it's still very developed. Even in the "poorest" parts of Oman like Al-Wusta and Sharqiyah region people enjoy very high quality of roads/ housing and the majority of shophouses are brand new. Also my Emirati friend himself clarified that Oman's infrastructure is the best among GCC states.

Don't get me wrong, both Oman and UAE are the best countries I've ever been

Oman is pretty car-dependent with limited urban public transportation, but inter-city transport is excellent ! It's very easy to move around the country with modern , luxurious, and extensive bus network. I hate car-dependency too, but Oman is an exception here because cities never get crowded and traffic jam rarely occurs.

^^ Thanks Skyprince, one last question on Oman; if those middle class people live in those palace like buildings where do wealthy Omanis live?

Skyprince
February 14th, 2008, 05:13 PM
^^ The wealthy Omanis live in the castles then :D :D I have never seen such a high living standard as what enjoyed by Omani people in my whole life , imagine- even the poorest segment of Omanis live in huge and comfortable homes with superb interior design ! I didn't spot any sign of poverty . Crime is almost non-existent.

^^ Oman has the best infrastructure among all Gulf states, ( that's what my Emirati friend said since he has traveled to all GCC nations ). Roads and highways are wide and superb. It's a very comfortable country to live in, with very minimal traffic and high quality of housing. Many Omanies are granted free land and they can build any kind of villas with very affordable rate. Everybody speaks very good English.

Infrastructure does not just concern roads, streets, and the level of traffic..

But sure, oman has been making big leaps and bounds in many areas since Sultan Qaboos came to power... Until 1971-72 there were no schools in Oman... Not talking about universities.. But schools...

Just a couple i believe for royals mainly..

Today its a whole different story..

Even in 1970 Muscat was still closed and the only road in Oman was a single unasphalted path connecting Muscat and Sohar. It took almost 25 days to travel from Muscat to Salalah ( 1,078 km ) by rugged path ( as what told by my Omani pals ) .

It was the poorest country in the world at that time. But today, it is the most luxurious and the most comfortable country to live on the planet ( IMO )
