The Pharaoh June 6th, 2010, 08:41 AM Cityscape Jeddah 2010 is right around the corner!! Tomorrow's the opening day and I'll be there, all day long if necessary. So, how many of you have pre-registered? I was informed that Pre-Registration is the only way one can access the exhibition...

Saudi guy June 10th, 2010, 10:07 PM i can't believe it Cityscape held in jeddah and find no updates that is so disappointing:ohno:
The Pharaoh June 11th, 2010, 02:33 AM To be honest, I believe this year's Cityscape Jeddah was a total bust. None of the participators had any intriguing projects, be it concept designs or under-construction development. At first, I thought it was just my opinion alone but all my colleagues had the same opinion. I have to say it, Cityscape Jeddah 2010 was a disappointment! It just didn't live up to its billing!!

Saudi guy November 13th, 2010, 12:36 PM Riyadh International Urban Development & Real Estate Investment Event - Cityscape Riyadh 2010 Leverages Network Of 350,000 Investors, Real Estate Professionals To Support ’New Riyadh’ Concept
’New Riyadh’ property developments to include SAR 37.5 billion financial district, Governorate renovation
Riyadh , Saudi Arabia - November 13, 2010:
Officially endorsed by Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Trade and Industry and organised by National Exhibitions Company and Cityscape, the Riyadh International Urban Development and Real Estate Investment event – Cityscape Riyadh 2010 is poised to follow up on the huge success of the Cityscape Jeddah exhibition and conference held in June this year.
Riyadh International Urban Development and Real Estate Investment event - Cityscape Riyadh 2010, which will run from December 12 to 14, 2010, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Riyadh, will feature a large scale Exhibition, Investor Round Tables (December 12 to 14) and Riyadh’s International Urban Development and Real Estate Investment Conference (December 12 to 13), providing a comprehensive business-to-business platform for key industry players to pursue new projects and support the "New Riyadh" development concept.
“Riyadh finally has its own comprehensive forum for industry players and investors to maximize the potential of its real estate landscape, and just at the right time. The various and diverse developments across the city indicate that Riyadh is on the verge of becoming a fast-paced commercial and lifestyle hub. The huge success of Cityscape Jeddah last June helped boost interest for the first-ever Riyadh edition and we expect a lot of return guests from that previous event,” said Deep Marwaha, Director of Cityscape Riyadh.
The three-day exhibition will display the products and services of over 50 domestic and international real estate firms and leverage the Cityscape brand’s global network of around 350,000 investors and real estate professionals. Around 70 per cent of exhibition space has already been booked. The conference will provide learning and networking opportunities with over 40+ expert speakers and more than 150 delegates.
Around 1.1 million sqm of additional office space are expected to be delivered in Riyadh. A key project in the city is the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD), a SAR 37.5 billion, 40-tower office, residential, educational, sports, retail and cultural complex that is part of the emergence of a ‘New Riyadh.’ Another high-profile real estate development aimed at reinventing the capital is the SAR 15 million expansion and renovation of the Riyadh Governorate. Overall, commercial space in the area is expected to expand significantly in the next 4 to 5 years as the city shifts to its ‘New Riyadh’ brand.
Riyadh’s real estate sector, on the other hand, plans to continue capitalizing on the Kingdom’s status as the top Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) destination in the Middle East. Saudi FDIs were worth SAR 135 billion last year, placing it 8th among the world’s top FDI recipients in 2009.
The numerous development opportunities being opened up by Riyadh’s urban transformation will be revealed during the event, the inaugural local edition of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s premier real estate investment and development event. The Riyadh show will meet the huge demand for a real estate platform serving the Kingdom’s Central Provinces.
Cityscape’s portfolio of exhibitions, conferences and seminars brings together international investors, developers, government and investment authorities, leading architects, designers, consultants and all senior professionals involved in the design and construction of real estate. The event’s 2010 sponsors include Emaar Middle East (Principal Sponsor), National Commercial Bank (Silver Sponsor) and Working Buildings (Silver Sponsor). Complete event details are available at http://www.cityscaperiyadh.com.
Saudi guy November 17th, 2010, 07:22 PM Time is right for Jeddah debut of Big 5 exhibition
by Ben Roberts on Nov 17, 2010
http://www.constructionweekonline.com/pictures/gallery/People/Salman-Abou-Hamzeh_for_web.jpg
The western province is the setting for much of Saudi's deelopment, says Hamzeh.
Big 5 Saudi will present the most international variety of construction-related products ever seen in the Kingdom, according to the project manager coordinating the 2011 event.
Salman Abou Hamzeh of dmg :: events, the exhibition organiser, said the construction renaissance in Saudi Arabia, with US $470 billion worth of projects underway, means it is the right time to launch the Big 5 brand in Jeddah, the second biggest city, next February.
“We believe we can use our expertise and global agent network to deliver an event that gives product buyers a truly international choice of products that they will have never seen at a Saudi event specifically in the western province, “ he told CW.
The event will showcase the full spectrum of the construction industry, from plant and machinery to bathroom products, and will also feature training courses run in conjunction with leading associations. There will be more than 200 exhibitors scheduled, representing 25 countries, from the US to Taiwan.
Hamzeh reveals that the launch of Big 5 Saudi came from research gleaned from exhibitors at Big 5 shows in Dubai over the last two years that indicated that companies were seeking to diversify from the UAE.
“Whilst a number of countries were mentioned, Saudi Arabia was the one country where the majority of our exhibitors felt they could increase sales,” he said.
Jeddah, and the western province, was chosen for three reasons. Firstly, the region has more than a third of all construction projects and is the venue of four major economic cities that will house five million residents. Secondly, it is the world’s leading destination for religious tourism, with eight million people expected in 2010 generating over $6 billion annually and boosting real estate and infrastructure activities.
Thirdly, he said, there is $40 billion of guaranteed investment for the construction of the King Abdullah Economic City.
Wider fundamentals indicated that the time is right for a show the size of Big 5 Saudi.
“Saudi has young population where 70% of the 25 million inhabitants are under the age of 30,” Hamzeh points out. “The population is set to increase by 2.5% per year, which means the population will grow considerably over the next 20 years, resulting in the need for housing, schools, hospitals, and industrial development.”
He added that the Saudi government has relaxed laws on foreign investment which will increase opportunities for contractors to bid for the state-backed infrastructure projects.
Jeddah cannot meet the housing demand, resulting in unplanned developments across the city. The Jeddah Strategic plans aims to provide homes to the majority of those living in these developments.
Hamzeh explained that the expansion of King Abdulaziz International Airport to cope with an increased number of religious tourists visiting Makkah and Madinah will increase the demand for construction in the hospitality sector and infrastructure.
Earlier this month Saudi Binladen won two contracts worth a combined $7.2 billion for the first phase of the airport’s development. These include a $4 billion deal to build a 670,000m2 terminal, and a $3.2 billion contract for the construction of the world's tallest control tower, car parks, and other airport infrastructure.
The work will see the airport expand its capacity to 30 million passengers annually.
In a further sign of the country’s development, Hamzeh pointed out that the Saudi Green Building Council is preparing the launch of the green building rating system for the country on the back of market demand to understanding how buildings can be designed and built in what he calls an “environmentally sensitive” way.
“In total there will be over 200 exhibitors and we are now looking at constructing a marquee next to the main hall to meet demand,” he said.
Big 5 Saudi will run from 27th February to 2nd March 2011. For more information and to book a stand during Big 5 Dubai, Salman will be available on stand Zabeel V101.

JEDDAH: “The Big Five” exhibition is being held at the Jeddah Center for Forums and Events, from Feb. 27 to March 2, with the support of Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) Chairman Saleh Kamel, international companies and national firms.
Considering the show’s importance in the context of the ongoing construction boom, national debates on the future of the real estate and construction and building sectors will come to bare on the event’s 'Leadership Strategy Day'.
The special lecture series geared toward policy and decision makers will discuss topics that are often brought up in the news media. Experts will talk about the future outlook of this vital industry and sustainable development in the Kingdom at a forum that will be open for registered attendees.
Across Saudi Arabia, business operations in real estate, project management, general contracting as well as any sectors that heavily rely on construction and building endeavors are looking forward to getting a slice of the government spending pie.
High oil prices have made it possible for the Kingdom to bankroll a diverse set of initiatives aimed at addressing the needs of a mushrooming population.
As key stakeholders — both public and private — roll up their sleeves for work, a realization is setting very fast when it comes to the complexity of involvement in such lucrative efforts.
Looking at the general building and construction industry scene at large proves to be a revealing experience. The ongoing controversy of construction material prices dominated national discussions for the past few years. With so many sources of building goods to choose from, quality became a major factor to consider.
Furthermore, there have been assertive voices about the questionable effectiveness of the regulatory environment in which a lot of companies operate.
Recent uproar regarding the price of steel among other construction materials have ignited a noticeable discussion over the importance of logistical reliability of supplies if those mega projects announced in recent years would be built on time with no difficulties.
Saudi companies - along with international firms - are working hard to address those concerns and carve for themselves an advanced position in the race for contracts and new clients.
Hassan Al-Hafiz, marketing manager of Hadeed Al-Rajhi, has emphasized the strong set of capabilities Saudi firms possess.
“Looking at the Saudi construction and building scene, a diverse group of companies exist with a strong determination to offer a hand in the urban and economic advancement of the country. The amount of government investment and the ambitious plans under way do allow a great deal of confidence to be held by companies in the future of this industry. This is even truer for Saudi firms with world-class product quality and international levels of service,” he said.
While being responsible for organizing The Big Five, Andy White confirmed initial perceptions of the need for construction and building industry professionals to be able to designate an event platform to effectively explore new horizons and foster bonds of collaboration among all stakeholders.
Global firms like Jones Lang LaSalle have a shown a great deal of interest in the Saudi market and will be offering its perspective on the Saudi dynamic at The Big Five.

JEDDAH: The Middle East’s largest construction show, Big 5 Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, formally opened to the public in Jeddah on Sunday evening.
It targets Saudi Arabia’s architects, engineers, contractors, project managers and construction professionals, and aims to capitalize on the booming construction industry and high investor confidence in the Kingdom.
More than 260 companies across the full range of the construction industry are exhibiting at the four-day event.
Jeddah was chosen to host the show, said event director Andy White, as around 34 percent of all projects planned in Saudi Arabia are in the Western Province.
As of July 2010, there were 710 active projects in the Western Province alone, where Jeddah is the central business hub.
White said that the Big 5 event had taken place in Dubai for over 30 years and is the largest construction event in the Middle East. It attracts more than 3,200 exhibitors and 48,000 visitors from over 120 different countries annually.
It is the event’s first foray into Saudi Arabia and to judge from pre-registration numbers it promises to be very successful, he added.
“We had thousands of Saudi visitors each year and it was this, and feedback from our exhibitors, that prompted us to launch in Jeddah,” he told Arab News on Sunday during the final preparations for the show.
He said the process of assembling the exhibitors and the build-up to the show, which took just three days, had been remarkably smooth.
Elie Rizk, CEO of MICE Arabia, said the proactive help from Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal and the assistance of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) had been instrumental in bringing and facilitating both the establishment and logistics of the show.
“It has been an altogether a very positive experience.”
An amalgamation of five former industry specific shows, each with its own product focus, the Big 5 brings together a wide range of local and international brands such as Al-Jawdah Ceramic, Alwasail Industrial Company, Betec CAD Industries, Conmix, Eurostone, Hess Group, Kersten Europe Middle East, Zamil Steel Industries, Sikka Saudi Arabia, Rootika Paints and Manchamar.
Around 70 percent of the exhibiting companies are from outside Saudi Arabia and 65 percent from outside the GCC.
Sunday featured US Green Building Council Leed workshops, which gave insights into Leed standards and systems, an increasingly important area of understanding for all construction professionals.
The event also features a “Leadership Strategy Day”, a series of round table discussions aimed at policy and decision makers in both the private and public sectors.
The sessions will address key areas such as sustainable building, market outlook and green build.
According to Middle East Interiors, the Saudi government is set to invest $400 billion in infrastructure over the next five years.
The value of building and construction contracts from 2009 to 2012 is expected to exceed $138 billion.
With more than 70 percent of the population below the age of 30, six mega economic cities under development and a 50 percent increase in demand for residential housing in the next three years, the Kingdom’s building market is very attractive to inward investors and construction contractors.
