I never heard of it, most parisian don't care about these buiulding.

Most of these towers are approved, only this have low change due at the sybolic importance of this building.

With Generalli 318m, Gan 275m, Axa 240m, Air² 220m, T1 187m, Total 187m, Areva 184m, D2 170m, Carpe Diem 160m, Egee 155m and Adria 155m
Courbevoie have and will have the densest concentration of tall towers in Europe.
But we need more big tower.

In 2010 with high chance, Courbevoie could be in Greater Paris city limit. :)

I will say it once again - it's a pity that some examples of very good 70's architecture get facelift after which there's nothing left from the original building. This way some part of architecture's history is wiped away from city's landscape. Fortunately in the case of Tour Gan original shape of the building will remain similar. I only hope they won't change the cladding.

La Defense is growing very fast, many towers are approved end in design stage!

I agree with you but we have a chance in Paris and in La Défense to keep many towers in the same aspect (being renovated).

Hm, the renovated Tour Gan would like nice, but the current Tour Gan already looks nice as well. Couldn't they just build a new tower with 275m in height and leave Gan as it is? I mean, there are other 70ies buildings that would need such a renovation more urgently...

You meant that the towers on your pics will keep original facade or the concrete is going to be exchanged into glass? If the cladding is being changed, tower is not the same any more. To me the only thing that should be upgraded to modern standards, in some cases, should be just the interior. La Defense has some iconic towers that may look a bit out of time at the moment, but within next decade this architecture will be appreciated again, but then - it's gone forever.

A similar example is Stock Exchange tower (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v732/Amsfan/2252651.jpg) in London. The concrete exterior has been replaced by trendy glass, instead of being cleaned up. The tower was unique. Now it looks like thousands of other office buildings in the world, and sadly to say - most people on SSC appreciate this change (http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/wjfox2005/London_general/city_of_london/10.jpg). :ohno:

Every city should have a mix of architecture from all epoches, so that you can feel the history of the place. It's a sad thing that so many historical buildings are sacrificed for a flashy modern look (which changes every decade)

I was there in 2004 and all i can say this tower needs a refreshment. I cant believe whats going on there. It will look so cool.

BTW the la grande arche is massiv in real.

It does keep the theme of the original design intact. A whole lot better than the crap they are doing to New York buildings. Verizon is now a flat green box and Astor Plaza is supposedly going to be a blue one.

If the Tour Gan is renovated, it should have about 60 floors.

The tower has actually strong chances to be renovated. The group "Foncière des Régions" has already acquired the tower with as project to restructurate it in order to sell it back. I'm strongly skeptic the group would have already bought the tower if there had no guarantee the EPAD would allow its construction.

However, Foncières des Régions announced a very rushed calendar with construction starting as early as in 5 months. There are very few chances such a tight calendar could be respected.

It will be a very nice and logic redevelopment. BTW, that LD skyline render is just amazing..

The project is going well .
It is nearly approved , and construction should start this year :)

^^The facade does not look messy. Would the reconstruction screw up the building's greek cross-shaped groundprint?

it's the same problem all over europe, architecture of 50's, 60's and 70's is not old enough to be reckoned as architectural heritage and is being demolished to make place for sometimes a lot weaker, but modern buildings. the same problem we have in warsaw.

This is a brilliant design. Its a shame the rediculous shaped ones that have been approved couldnt have been a bit more like this.

According to employees of the tower, offices are being emptied and renovation should start fast (end of 2008)

Yes , the roof is at 236m.

Officials said work should begin in September 2008 for a delivery in end 2010 .

And as HD has said, it's a cool thing that they've kept the 70's design in the new version. Especially that for a tower of the 70's, the Gan design is not ugly at all.

This is a good transformation. I also like the transformation of AXA, but for some reason this one looks more imposing and 'serious', probably because of it's 70's feel that you guys are talking about. I'm sure GAN & AXA will look great together though.

I don't like the new desing that much.The only thing worth of a comment are the open patios,wich look pretty nice.

The restructuring of the tower is been carried out while maintaining the look traditional skyscraper, but also giving it a modern and futuristic image.

I agree with you, Cityscape3D are doing the best renders ever seen. I just wanted to precise that some french companies are recognized for doing a great work, and even for english people (what a consecration!)... some of them are forgetting it...

I don't know about the renovation project. The new portion may ruin the existing tower's Greek cross groundprint. I would have built something similar to the existing tower in South Africa.

Due to the economic crisis , the project has been delayed . Works are scheduled to begin in the end of 2009 .

Nice design...not spectactular, but nicely proportioned , this is the perfect addition to LD IMO!
And even though it won't be possible for it to take the attention from the 3 supertalls-Tour Signal, Phare and Generali- this tower definetily will set own accents in the LD skyline...

Btw i wonder that there're only 48 floors on this tower...with a roof height of 236 m, that means that the average floor height must be around 4.8 m, which is around 1 m higher than what's usual for office buildings...and I can't discover any spaces in the renderings where the floors would exceed average height by much...but probably the ceiling just will be very high i guess...

yes the investor Foncière des Régions finally found a buyer, Suez, to rent the majority available space of the building. This one will be renovated but not extended :( :( :(, starting this summer.

Hermitage Plaza will become the icon of La Défense. They will give a new dimension to the distict both locally (inside Paris) and internationally.

Obviously you haven't paid enough attention to Foster's Project, otherwise you wouldn't say something like this. I would have certainly agreed if we were talking about the old "H"-shaped Ferrier's project, but I couldn't disagree more when it goes about Norman Foster's design.

In my opinion, considering Foster's Hermitage Plaza would ruin La Défense is like considering Notre-Dame ruins the Ile de la Cité. It doesn't make sense.

The height extension has been cancelled due to the frakking enonomic crisis?! This is bad news. An interior renovation would suffice, but not much is known about that plan.

finally it may not be a problem because hermitage plaza is not really in the axis of CB31, gan & generali, and even T1 on the far right.

The own problem is only with future Phare tower, exaclty behind, you can't see any part of the tower..!
