Construction of the proposed 34-storey building, estimated to cost up to RM350 million, will start next year and is expected to complete by 2010

TENAGA Nasional Bhd (TNB) is planning a new corporate headquarters in Kuala Lumpur to cater for its 30,000 workforce and expanding operations.
Property valuers said that the proposed 34-storey building could cost between RM300 million and RM350 million.
It could even be higher depending on TNB's requirements.
The new headquarters will be situated on land next to its current headquarters in Jalan Bangsar, which is 70 years old.
It will be designed by famed Malaysian architect Hijjaz Kasturi.
Construction will start next year and is expected to be completed by 2010.
Hijjaz also designed the RM700 million 77-storey Menara Telekom situated in Jalan Pantai, close to TNB's current headquarters.
The TM headquarters is based on renowned Malaysian sculptor and artist Latiff Mohidin's award-winning masterpiece, the Pucuk Rebung, which depicts a young bamboo shoot with strong foundations at its root and few leaves sprouting.
The new TNB headquarters will also be based on the Pucuk Rebung.
"The new building is necessary as the current workplace is filled to the brim, and we want to place all our workers currently scattered everywhere, such as nearby Menara Telekom and Crystal Plaza, under one roof.
"The new building will enable TNB to save on operational costs such as rental payments," said a source.
A full-scale model of the new headquarters is on display at TNB's office lobby. TNB officials could not be reached for comment.

TWK90 November 13th, 2007, 12:46 PM I can notice that the design on the website, when compared to the one on the newspaper, the cladding of the building in the website, got little holes compared to the one on the newspaper, on which its cladding is smooth glass cladding, somehow the hole on the cladding looks better in my opinion...
This design if taller, can look much better than the current height...it would look slender too...

nazrey November 17th, 2008, 10:23 PM TNB delays plan to build new corporate HQ
By Jeeva Arulampalam
Published: 2008/11/18
TENAGA Nasional Bhd (TNB) (5347) has deferred a plan to build a new corporate headquarters due to the current economic slowdown.
"Things are so difficult now and with recession coming, we are deferring the plans until things get better," chief executive officer Datuk Seri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh told reporters at TNB's Deepavali open house yesterday.
Business Times reported last November that the power company was looking to build a 34-storey building that would cost between RM300 million and RM350 million.
The new establishment would be situated on land next to its current headquarters in Jalan Bangsar in Kuala Lumpur, which is 70 years old.
Construction was supposed to start this year and the building was to be completed by 2010, helping the company save on operational costs such as rental payments.
It was said to cater to TNB's 30,000 workforce and expanding operations.
When asked about its role in the gas-powered electricity plant by Petronas in Sabah, Che Khalib said TNB was appointed as consultant by Petronas.
"The plant's capacity is 300 megawatts (MW). We don't know when the plant will be set up because Petronas owns it. We (TNB) are just appointed to assist in the technical aspects of the power plant for this project," he added.
Che Khalib said the plant was a necessity and Petronas would use gas extracted from Sabah to generate electricity.
He added that it was important to set up a power plant in the east cost of Sabah because it eliminates the risk of dependency on power plants in the west coast.
"If a line trips (from the west coast), then there will be no back-up power so it's very crucial to ensure that power supply in the east coast is stable," he added.
TNB was supposed to build a 300MW Lahad Datu coal-fired power plant project to stabilise the Sabah Grid on the east coast, which was later scrapped by the Sabah state government.

It does make sense for them to move their entire executive operation into one giant hq and for the main hardware operation to less pricy area like kajang or rawang etc .I still think that is their main target but it's tough to say how they are going to achieve it right now when they are buying coal at market prices but sell electricity at losses it's really a strange capitalist system hahaha
