The Zagreb Arena


Due to the International Handball Championships in 2009 which will be hosted by Zagreb, the city is to recieve a new 15,200 seat sporting arena. Once completed, the new Zagreb Arena will host a variety of sports and also be able to hold concert performances. Location has been determined recently, it will be built in the district of New Zagreb. Zagreb Arena was designed by Craotian architect Alan Leo Pleština and will be built by consortium of Ingra and Trigranit. Zagreb Arena will be the largest in Croatia once completed. Construction must start in the may of 2007 in order the meet the 2009 deadline for the championships.

87 mil. euro - total project cost
7.5 mil. euro - annual cost shared by city council and Croatian govt
133 mil euro - total purchase price if acquired within 7 years
15,200 - spectators for the world handball championships
25,000 - spectator capacity for concerts and conferences
1056 - parking for vehicles
38 - parking spaces for buses

Great project. Can't wait to see the final outcome. They could have done something more innovative with the roof, but overall not bad for Zagreb.

I just want to remind, that this is only my personal opinion. Plus, i'm being very critical cause this is a big, world class venue or at least wants to be so.

The interior dosen't seem to create the 'huge arena' effect (i mean some 15k arenas look bigger) and there seems to be not enough vip space (how much will there be?). For example, look at the interior of split arena. It has only 12500, but looks even bigger, i think.

Exterior? I simply don't like it. Btw, what are hose pillars made of? I can't imagine them looking good after 10 years or so...

In contrast to the above poster I really like this arena. Modern and sleek design, not to monotonous.

Yes it will delay it for one week.

in todays newspapers...

end of construction won't be delayed cause of accident...

plans are putting the roof till middle of september, and whole object will be finished till 15th december... very optimistic assumption by my opinion...

accident damage was around 13 000 €... crane driver is ok and has returned to his job...

it is very interesting. At the beginning it went very slow on. And when ground works complated it suddenly rose up. Ground works seem to last too long. Same goes Galatasaray's new stadium.

We always think we are late for the arenas of World Basketball Championship 2010.

Nah, those are cheap suburb flats (pure edge of the New Zagreb). Also few of the old commie blocks are still there but they should be crashed in year or two. Yes, great pics. How do you enter the construction site, I mean they don´t mind somebody is taking pics? Btw how many shifts are working on the site? I think it´s going to be difficult to finish the arena by december by the looks of things today.

We just try to enter and we did it :okay:
It's not hard when is many people moving around.

You need the space and you need equipment for refregeration.

The projects are taken and developed from German arenas which are primarily built for ice hockey, so it will be possible. You don't need so much space :)
But I don't think arenas will be used for that purpose and refrigerators won't be bought, but they can be easily installed later :)

Što se tiće ovog bloka uz rijeku....to je postalo aktuelno u zadnje vrijeme....Prije je to područje valjda bilo nezanimljivo...ali onda su počeli sa Arenom, Arena centrom pa i sa ovim stambenim blokom tako da je to postala vrlo atraktivna zona koju čeka prava preobrazba..
E da, i uklapa se u projekt gradskih vlasti "Zagreb na Savi"
