View Full Version : European Purchasing Power
CrazySerb November 15th, 2007, 03:52 AM This is how we rank according to the latest report...I guess this should finally clear some (but not all) things up.

***I hope you can read Slovenian;)
Pavlo November 15th, 2007, 04:21 AM So what exactly should this clear up? That consumers have extra money to blow, or that some countries are real cheapskates?
3tmk November 15th, 2007, 04:34 AM So Slovenia isn't higher than Portugal and Greece?
And why are the Netherlands so low?
This doesn't seem to be a PPP comparison to me
new bulgaria November 15th, 2007, 05:54 AM It clears only how little you know about economics.
Dux Uxorum November 15th, 2007, 06:22 AM Well, the report looks to be in Slovenian language so at least you can't attack the guy for a pro-Serb bias or whatever. ;) I definitely don't know much about the economics, but this list appears quite reasonable to me.

How can you talk about purchasing power when the numbers are not adjusting for purchasing power parity (PPP). This is like comparing oranges with apples.
The fact that the source is Slovenian has nothing to do with it, rather it is its accuracy.
Dardani6 November 15th, 2007, 06:59 AM they seem pretty far off for many countries
nero November 15th, 2007, 09:41 AM The fact that the source is Slovenian has nothing to do with it, rather it is its accuracy.
It's not Slovenian it's from Gfk.

hercegovac_nin0 November 15th, 2007, 10:47 AM Netherlands 15 never it must be a joke:lol:
insertnickhere November 15th, 2007, 12:19 PM The report is legit, it came out yesterday but the calculations are flawed.
HenkMan November 15th, 2007, 04:24 PM Is this that PPP everyone talks about? It doesn't seem to fit at all with gdp ppp numbers from imf, how are these calculated?
paku November 15th, 2007, 04:42 PM This list is not GDP!!!
It's a purchasing power of people, meaning "net annual income including state benefits".
CrazySerb November 15th, 2007, 07:01 PM Thank you, Paku. Some people here apparently never learned to read.
I wrote Purchasing Power, not GDP , not PPP, OPP or MPP....or whatever other PP there is.
And yes, this DOES clear up some things - like the fact that Serbia is better off then either Romania or Bulgaria:lol:
Though i'm disappointed that Montenegro is not ahead of Serbia by now. I think that will change by 2010:yes:
Kapedani November 15th, 2007, 07:19 PM How is this related to average penis size in Eastern Europe?
Turnovec November 15th, 2007, 07:56 PM How is this related to average penis size in Eastern Europe?
The heaven's kingdom penis is the largest , didn't you get it ?
bgrs November 15th, 2007, 08:07 PM Where is that?
Should be Bulgaria after I take it over :)
nero November 15th, 2007, 08:20 PM How is this related to average penis size in Eastern Europe?
Every other post you write is about penises. Issues?
Blok November 15th, 2007, 08:56 PM Ukrajina lower then Albanija ?
Qaabus November 15th, 2007, 09:00 PM Netherlands 15 never it must be a joke:lol:
True. Purchasing Power in 2005 was around 21000. Should be a couple percent higher now.
Purchasing Power per socio-economic group in 2005.

What is that? Is that in Albania? I believe it must be...
Every other post you write is about penises. Issues?
Yes. I'm sick and tired of people trying to compare their measily pensies with mine. We already estabished a long time ago that mine was the biggest penis of all the penises...further comparisons are futile.
I can also pee the furthest.
I hope this explonation will lay to rest all further dick-measuring threads in this forum. All issues have now been resolved...I win.
Turnovec November 15th, 2007, 09:34 PM What is that? Is that in Albania? I believe it must be...
You presumed wrong....
Think twice ;)
bgrs November 15th, 2007, 09:39 PM No, it's Bulgaria under my rule as a benevolent dictator :)
Turnovec November 15th, 2007, 09:42 PM ^^ All hail King Drusenec the 2nd ;)
bgrs November 15th, 2007, 09:45 PM The first :)
You should be one of my best fans...cause noone else would show you what's like having the island of Belene packed with communists :)
genci888 November 15th, 2007, 09:47 PM Ukrajina lower then Albanija ?
Albania's GDP/capita has been higher than Ukraine's for a very long time.
However, Ukraine's GDP PPP/Capita has been higher than Albania's.
It doesn't really matter though, cos both of them are too low. Beating one another with our current GDP rates is not exactly an amazing achievement. :tongue2:
nebunul November 15th, 2007, 09:52 PM I do not deny the official numbers ... they're about right. However, Romanians working abroad are sending home ~ 5 billion Euro this year alone. So the reality about PPP is different. And I am sure this applies to other countries ...
Turnovec November 15th, 2007, 09:53 PM The first :)
You should be one of my best fans...cause noone else would show you what's like having the island of Belene packed with communists :)
^^ Wow ! If you move over there also the flying soucer from Buzludza and the statue of the drunken young man in the center of Sofia with a child in his hand , a Shmaizer bigger than a car in the other and a smile on his face from his meetings with the bulgarian mothers ... along with his replica from one of Plovdiv's hills i sware i would be your biggest FAN ever ! :)
Kapedani November 15th, 2007, 10:04 PM Bulgarians with penises?? You people have some wild fantasies...
bgrs November 15th, 2007, 10:10 PM Well, sooner or later you're gonna surrender to my Bulgarian empire. But first we have to deal with the EU (we'll conquer it from inside)...and Russia (this would be tough...but some day we'll cut their alchohol supplies and they'd surrender themselves).
Anyway, we will not invade you, you'll join all by yourself. Cause the ancestor of the retrogard backward EU will be the....Bulgarian Union.
For all the enemies of the new world order....en garde!
:)
Turnovec November 15th, 2007, 10:12 PM ^^ Your highness king Drusenec :) ... I have a proposal what the commies gathered over there in Belene can do ... they would be forced to built the biggest and glorious monument in BG - "3 in 1" ...a combination of Basil II Bulgarslayer , Bayazid , and the Red Army :D ...All those "good" guys that we have met with over the years :) How about that idea ? :)
bgrs November 15th, 2007, 10:13 PM BTW I have an idea...it seems that politics are more and more involved in the SSC threads...why don't we all just create our own nation in http://www.nationstates.net and compare them each month...I mean all the dick measuring thingies?
I bet my bgrs' Great Bulgarian empire will be more successful than yours hehe :)
Kapedani November 15th, 2007, 10:26 PM but some day we'll cut their alchohol supplies
But Bulgarian raki sucks...
bgrs November 15th, 2007, 10:35 PM Haven't tried the right one :) Don't drink Parcuca or anything connected with Peshterska and those commercial ethanol chemical factories, ugh :(
zzibit November 15th, 2007, 10:37 PM But Bulgarian raki sucks...
yeah, it's for seasoned drinkers only ;) no lightweights.
Делян November 15th, 2007, 10:38 PM And yes, this DOES clear up some things - like the fact that Serbia is better off then either Romania or Bulgaria:lol:

Certainly we can overtake the Russians, hehe! :)
bgrs November 15th, 2007, 10:45 PM and this is the main reason you posted the chart
OK, we could arrange the unemployment charts, the GDP charts, the FDI charts, the political situation so that anyone around is pleased, anyway...my Great Bulgarian empire will overtake Serbia first so what's the point :D
Pavlo November 16th, 2007, 12:03 AM I'm sure this thread will turn to a bash between countries...
Anyways, I agree with nebunul, the amounts being sent home are substantial but that's a whole other subject.
Cosmin November 16th, 2007, 01:08 AM Why are penises involved in an economic themed thread?!:shifty:
Pavlo November 16th, 2007, 01:42 AM Why are penises involved in an economic themed thread?!:shifty:
It's always so much easier to use male genitalia as an economic factor rather than the actual economic factor.
Kapedani November 16th, 2007, 08:54 PM Why are penises involved in an economic themed thread?!
Because...
Haven't tried the right one Don't drink Parcuca or anything connected with Peshterska and those commercial ethanol chemical factories, ugh
I don't know...I bought some online from some Bulgarian store since I couldn't find any being sold in stores here. Delivery time and price was amasing...but the product....sucked. Our raki is colorless...and rocket fuel...this thing was some plum brandy at best.
It'll do the job...but I just had to point out...that our raki and penises...are still the best.
mirko1443 November 16th, 2007, 09:50 PM I'm surprised to see Norway near the top of the list. GDP per capita there is like 50 grand, yet prices are very high, a bottle of coke costs like 11 euros, which basically means that if you make 18 dollars an hour you're living on subsistence wages.
With albania i'm not surprised, prices were very high for the wages there, but then again we got our big penises to console us.
JuMPer November 16th, 2007, 10:14 PM country comparison are very fictional if u understand economics and accounting

It is wrong !!! CIA -WORLD FACT BOOK 2006
GDP rer cap Ucraine 7800 usd
Albania 5700 usd
And how Montenegro could be better with 3800 usd GDP per cap than Ukraine with 7800 usd and Belarus with 8100 usd ??????
3tmk November 17th, 2007, 04:33 AM Personally I find the HDI to be the best way to compare nations

It's not wrong. Those numbers you are typing there are correct, but they are GDP (PPP)/capita. I did say in my post that Ukraine has a higher GDP (PPP)/capita, didn't I? ;)
Here is a link to the IMF that compares both GDP/Capita and GDP (PPP)/Capita:

Me too, but since dick measuring based on HDI is not that cool, it's not that popular.:)
SouthernEuropean November 19th, 2007, 02:18 AM Ukrajina lower then Albanija ?
i thought the same..and btw HDI is really important.
Canadianin November 19th, 2007, 02:38 AM It sucks that there is no Data for Serbia and Montenegro there.
ZimasterX November 19th, 2007, 07:47 AM Personally I find the HDI to be the best way to compare nations
Not really, since I see countries like Bosnia and Cuba as a little over-represented. HDI does not seem to match low per-capita well.
genci888 November 19th, 2007, 08:10 AM i thought the same..and btw HDI is really important.
Well, Albania also has a higher HDI score than Ukraine. Though, the difference is negligible...
Albania-----0.784
Ukraine-----0.774
Kapedani November 19th, 2007, 05:13 PM Albania-----0.784
