Great towers! I'd really enjoy them if they'd rise at the Danube. They aren't very unique thou, but seem to be quite high-grade buildings.

Vienna goes awesomely well these days. But if this city wanna have a real cluster one day, it shouldn't spread out the highrises/scrapers all over the city... Just an advice ;)

Mixed use. There'll be offices, apartments and (I think) even a hotel.
But most importantly... a viewing platform!

The allocation of spaces on the tallest tower is a little weird: hotel rooms, offices ... and then loft apartments ... and then restaurants. :weird:

Yes, but that makes it look modern, don't you think? I like it... let's see how they arrange the area between the towers.

I don't know if "modern" is always good. I mean, I still don't like Corbusier's plaza designs.

No actual information - but when I passed the site last week, it was still void of everything that is needed for a construction. Construction delays do have a certain tradition in Austria, though... Too many nimbys, too many conservative forces.

These towers are perfect.

The new rendering seems to look the same to me like the old design, but on the top of the higher tower i can see an Antenna or spire now...i don't really like that, esp. if it's only meant to increase the height of the tower.
Btw, i really hope that this two Towers will get built (with or without antenna ;) , because the design is great and it surely would look great in the Donaucity-cluster, so i hope that construction will start eventually, but it was already announced so many times and delayed so many times, that i almost don't believe anymore that DC towers will get built in the near future...

You're right, there is one antenna on that rendering. Still, this picture is not an official one. So I don't think there will be an antenna on the top.
But increasing the height of builduings is a good thing...
I still believe those towers will be built. Just don't know when.

"WIEN. Die Wirtschaftskrise schlägt sich auf dem Wiener Hotelmarkt nieder: Erstmals seit sechs Jahren sinken die Nächtigungszahlen (minus 7,1 Prozent im ersten Halbjahr); geplante Luxushotels kämpfen mit der Finanzierung; Projekte werden verschoben. Ein Opfer der Krise ist das geplante Luxushotel ME Vienna der spanischen Kette Sol Melia.

Ursprünglich hätte das Hotel in den höchsten Wolkenkratzer Österreichs (den 230 Meter hohen DC-Tower) einziehen sollen. Der Turm geht allerdings nicht (wie geplant) in diesem Sommer in Bau: „Es ist die Krise dazwischengekommen“, erklärt Thomas Jakoubek, Geschäftsführer der WED (sie ist seitens der Stadt für die Entwicklungen der Donaucity zuständig). Unter den ganzen "Jo, schau ma hoit" Leuten dort hättets mich sofort erkannt - der mit dem Dauergrinser. :D

Such a great thing they started construction, especially with the financial crisis and economic slowdown...also, they look quite impressive from the distance, even though the design is a bit "simplistic" IMO, but it still looks fantastic with the other skyscrapers in the Donaucity.

That's the "problem", because nobody knows how high it is, but a people counted the pixels in a picture of the tower, so he could find out how many pixels are taking a meter from the tower, then he counted how many pixels the antenna in the picture have and so he came to a high of around 30m or more for the antenna. :lol:

The official high of this tower is not set, because on the homepage there is always only "+220m".
With antenna the high of the DC-Tower 1 will be about 250m or more...

The new skyscraper would rise directly out of here with it's height, because the skyscrapers you can see in this picture have only a height of about 80-150m.

I have always had mixed feelings about building new highrises in Vienna too. Well, that's something I'd perhaps would like to avoid in Krakow to preserve its historic skyline (however you can't compare Vienna and Krakow economies)

Anyways this particular design is great. I need to look up for some Vienna panoramas to check how it's going to look like from further away.

...ich kann es natürlich nicht mit sicherheit sagen, aber nachdem die 2 towers direkt nebeneinander stehen sollen, müsste es auf jeden fall synergieeffekte bezüglich materialanlieferung, lagerplatz, bauquartiere, betonmischanlage u.s.w. geben.
ausserdem bin ich mir, nachdem der baustart für tower 2 noch unbestimmt ist, nicht sicher ob er überhaupt gebaut wird. wird wohl unter anderem von der zukünftigen wirtschaftslage abhängen.

letzten sonntag nachmittag habe ich trotz nebels einmal die baustelle umrundet um die betongiesserei zu fotografieren...

You need to understand that the new skyscrapers are not build in the old part of the city but in business districts outside the center of the city - and yes, there we need more skyscrapers.

I am a bit confused regarding the low rise buildings surrounding the tower. It appears to me they look different on every single render. Are there already concrete plans regarding that or is it still in the move and these visualizations are just a guess?

Nice panarama now we see all the other buildings around there.

It's great to see that they're growing... when I was living at the Hochhaus Neue Donau there was just a big hole there for a long time, and when I left there wasn't any kind of works there. It will be a very nice skyline... and far away enough from the old city center.

230 or 220m? http://www.dctowers.at/content.php?page=5

It's really not fixed what final height the tower will become, because the MINIMUM height of the tower will be 220m (on the render you can see here (http://www.dctowers.at/) is alway a "+" in front of the 220m, but only at the higher one), but the tower can rise up to 230m too. And with spire (yes, there will come one on the top) the tower will be about 250m+ high. ;)

Good news! This (http://www.nachrichten.at/nachrichten/wirtschaft/wirtschaftsraumooe/art467,598430) site says (sorry, only in german) that the tower1 will become a height of 248m with antenna. :)

übrigens hab ich mir die "testverglasung" also den schwarzen block mal aus der nähe angeschaut und ja die fenster sind mit dem logo der heute besprochene firma aus steyr gekennzeichnet.........

The cladding on the old design was much better, this one is just too dark.

I like the new one more. Vienna and especially the Donaucity is already full of those random light blue / grey buildings. It would be a refreshing thing to have the DC tower in a different style. Moreover does the new rendering show more vertically pronounced lines.

Oh yes... Really cool, perhaps they will be illuminated?!

Sometimes the color looks very bad in renders. But it looks great in real life so doesnt say much.
