View Full Version : City-Data Whiners

This thread is dedicated to whiners from City-Data. I love it in LA and don't understand where these people come from, and why they persist on complaining non-stop. Enjoy... Feel free to go to City-Data and rip them a new one.

"I just have to say YES you are crazy! California is no dream dear. You want to raise your kids to become bumbling idiots? Terrible health care system, traffic is horrendous and add the worst air quality in the nation and God no space to breathe or live in peace. What are you thinking? Your children deserve better." - JadedStone

"You know what L.A. is like? High f***ing taxes, permit parking on the streets; meaning you will get ticketed parking in your own neighborhood if you don't have a yearly fee based permit, the people are like robots and ghosts, it is severly congested and chaotic and the education is just average nothing special and actually way behind many parts of the USA not to mention the mentality, transportation planning and city planning being light years behind as well. As city employees bank off of high salaries the city is going bankrupt and then you throw road rage and racism into the mix what do you have? A city that is a melting pot for disaster. Europe and Canada have better internships. Better yet New York, Colorado and many other states have better education. Oh and the postcards are BOGUS. The Los Angeles area including the beaches are so filthy and smelly and polluted. Not pretty and not clean. Oh and good luck on finding a date it is next to impossible to find someone who is normal and someone who doesn't want to just *********r brains out because they are emotionally unavailable. Last note the women are beautiful and extremely tall for the most part and the men average about 5'6. So don't believe anything you see on t.v. or on flyers. This is Los Angeles open gunfire year around. I've lived in Santa Monica for a year and there's been about 6 shootings and this is Santa Monica. If I were you I wouldn't settle for less. The Celebrities are screwed up(Britney Spears) but most of the regular people are just like them." - JadedStone

"Why do people say Los Angeles is "beautiful". Do any of you actually travel?
Los Angeles is a dump." - LP640

"I would have to agree here. There are certainly a select few sections of Los Angeles that I would describe as 'beautiful', but for the most part, Los Angeles looks very run down to me. (I lived there for over 5 years.)

To be fair, I LOVED it in my late 20's (which wasnt' that long ago). Now that I'm in my 30's, I only like to visit...good food, kooky people, nice cars, the beach, etc... But then I have to get the heck out of Dodge: WAY too much traffic, parking is a pain ANYWHERE, the place looks depressing, too noisy, dirty air that you can actually 'see', kooky people.

I've never visited SF, but everyone says that that is a lovely city with lots of culture. If you have a choice, perhaps consider SF. If you're going to be in student housing, it will be a great opportunity to live cheaply in a very expensive city." - GURL

"How sad your excitement will quickly turn to anxiety over how different California is from the "country". I would say it's not even worth coming here because there is nothing here worth coming too. You'll probably will run, screaming, back to Alabama. Courtney there isn't anything you can't do in Alabama that you want to do here. The pollution, clogged traffic and "terminator" robotic mentally of the people here isn't worth losing yourself over. I'm from the midwest and been here almost 2 years now but it hasn't been easy. We, people from the midwest and south, are used to hospitality and friendliness well don't expect it here. People do not use their manners and walk by each other as if they are ghosts. If the "beaches" are you're attraction it isn't anything but water filled with decay and gunk from the pollution and hazardous dumping of SoCal people who drive around flicking cigarettes out of their windows like the air is an open trash can and they just throw their trash anywhere. Darling don't come here it just isn't worth it. If you really want to expand your horizons go do some international traveling better yet go to a College overseas somewhere. You don't want to come here and end up in the Valley doing BDSM videos to pay your bills." - JadedStone

Do they try.........? WOW Most of these people give negative advice. It does not make sense to me,.. they live in L. A go to a city data forum and talk how bad L.A is.(Is this the "Talk how bad L.A is" forum) This is just sad and depressing.... really these type of people will always be this way. Hopefully we can learn from them. If they cant even see good in L.A. Then everything to them will always seem bad and they will never be satisfied. :ohno:

I'm not too sure why I'm even a member of CD. I'm one of the few that actually try to help people. Me along with maybe 5 others. Then there are about 50 people that constantly come to the LA forums and discourage people to move here and give them there life story about how hard it was for them and that it's not worth it.

Also, the people on there are bullshit. In one poll, Atlanta's skyline was number 1...WITH NYC AND CHICAGO INCLUDED IN THAT POLL. Detroit was rated higher than LA. Philly and Boston were higher than LA. Then random people starting arguments, one of the biggest being between a guy from Seattle that kept posting pics of the city and some guy from Philly who said Philly has the best skyline in the country. So then some guy from Philly that hates living there said Boston beats both of them. Then, for some strange reason, I was bored and agreed with the Seattle guy...boy, was that a mistake. I have never had so many people mad at me at one time.

It literally is one big talk show, that whole website. The Miami forum actually had the Administrator come and post a thread saying how this site was not to be used as a discussion board, but more of a site to help people with their moving and deciding where to live and that type of stuff. The idiots down there then started a discussion on a thread telling them to stop making discussions.

Alot of the things they say about LA are true. It is big, dirty, rough, harsh and all that other stuff. That's why I love it! Of course it's also beautiful, graceful, lovely, ambitious and very full of itself...that's why I love it too!

 I made a post about that site in of the threads around here, but just as long as those posters over there keep the bullshit over at City Data they can complain 6 days till Sunday... :dunno: a lot of them over there tend to be 1 of 3 people:

1) Transplants
2) Ex-Angelinos
3) People who have never been to the city and just want to start shit in the forums by making baseless and unfounded statements

Anyway though, I just wish a lot of the out-of-towners who have questions about the city came over here to ask us instead of getting so called "information" from naysayers.

jessemh431

I think it has to do with the name of the sites. SSC sounds more like a discussion only about skyscrapers around the world. City Data sounds like you will be getting information about the city. But yeah, I think people should come here instead. The people on here, besides me, know a lot more about Greater LA than the members on CD.

Trust me, I'm in one every single day against to Chicagoans who think Chicago is the second city. Then there's this f****** NYC cop named FutureCop who doesn't even live in NYC. He constantly starts threads to make LA look bad. He always comes into the LA threads and makes fun of LA. He's always starting polls that he knows NYC will win and LA can't, such as "Most Important City." No shit NYC is gonna win, but LA is definitely second. Then I said that and someone dared me start a thread to find out if I was right. The f****** idiots on that website voted Chicago as the second city above LA.:bash::rant:

 Hey, I seen a lot of those posts by those posters, and I know exactly how you feel, but... they're actually right on some things. For example, Chicago is the Second City because... well, they were the second biggest city after NYC in the past. And we all know we got a few transit issues that we're currently working the kinks out on. Outside of that though they're making up a bunch of BS.

I guess the reason why I'm even over there is because I just wanted to clear up a few misconceptions that could prevent out of towners from enjoying the city. Outside of that though, a lot of them know better than to go onto sites like this with that mess because they'd be shut down TOO quick.

So basically I'm just gonna leave that damn site alone. It ain't worth it.

You'll also see posts like this sometimes: "LA used to be paradise back when the SFV was all farmland and the roads were still unpaved." Good god, do these people realize that they're living in the second largest metropolis in the United States and not some backwoods country town in Alabama? Speaking of which, there's also some poster on city-data who moved from LA to Alabama and constantly posts about how there's nothing he could get in LA that he can't get right now in Alabama.

Wonder where this individual lived... Compton?

"This past weekend a good LA rock band played here in MN. I was talking to one of the band members who just moved to Las Vegas to buy a house. She has lived in LA for her whole life and she basically has the fear that Fastfilm talks about alot in this forum. This musician commented on the fact that her car is old and that she worries if it would break down in LA at night. Also, she stated that one does not go outside after dark....it is too dangerous. So hearing this from a lifelong LA resident, sure brings the truth home." - Music7Lover

Welcome to my world, but don't engage anyone or they'll award you an infraction immediately. I used to love going up against the NY cop (actually, an 18 year old from Scarsdale who can't put up his own Christmas lights) to the real estate chick who grew up in Brentwood but hates L. A. now that she lives in NY, and everyone in between who consider Los Angeles a celebrity obsessed, brain dead society. I used to have fun shutting these people up- or down, but FutureCop has me on his ignore list and nygirl practically has a restraining order out on me. Nothing like having these two babies posting your personal messages to them on the forum for all to read, or crying to their respective moderators that they're upset! I don't blame them, their rhetoric only carried them so far. I don't want to be banned. Reading that shit and having it go unchallenged would really damage me in some way. :)

You've repeated and highlighted my posting, the other 'guy' is revealing my personal shit to everyone else, and edsg25 is a cool older gentleman. I pm'd him the same night I "hit you up". You didn't respond as well. Now, I admire your photography and your 'savior-ness' toward your town, and have told you so, but I don't concede unless I should. I agree, but you can have that kind of interjection here also. (Competition between 2 skylines in one city? Not unique at all but I won't make a big stink about it.) Sound familiar?:) Thats because it is a totally false statement. It isn't unique to one city. Hong Kong, London, New York, Tokyo, Dubai, Shanghai, Los Angeles all have morwe than 2 skylines. Competition? Thats different too. You can have two existing skylines but do they compete? And what for? For business?
