View Full Version : Christmas in town
b4mmy November 20th, 2007, 11:33 PM Just spotted this post of Irwell's and thought it would be a good idea to post Manchester Christmas events and pics up. A photoblog of your xmas pub crawl around town would be fun. Let's see what we get anyway :)
The market is becoming a proper institution in town now, and so is the wheel....

monkey_rat November 20th, 2007, 11:45 PM The market is top notch as always. I'm a bit disappointed at how they've set up the ice rink though, you can't actually see people skating very well, last year you could and it really helped the atmosphere in the gardens.
flange November 21st, 2007, 11:31 AM Yes totally agree with you there monkey rat, there is the public viewing area right next to the KRO Chalet thing, but be warned the security will come up to you if you have a camera and ask if there is anyone you know on the ice rink and if there is not they will tell you not to take any pictures.

Then the Police turn up and you get put on the sex offenders list because there are children about.
:ohno:

Answer: "Yeah - that fella over there with the ice skates on" and then run away whilst they arent looking.

arepeejee January 2nd, 2008, 03:47 AM Now it's all over, I have to say I was exceptionally disappointed by the main German Christmas market this year. I've been the previous few years and enjoyed it very much, but this year it seemed to have lost its way. The staff I encountered were fairly rude, exceptionally slow at most of the popular food and drink stalls, and seemed to be populated by louts more than any other year before.
I think I'll stick to the offshoot ones next year, as the one at St Ann's Square seemed to have a completely different atmosphere, despite being a stonesthrow away it was much better.
heatonparkincakes January 5th, 2008, 02:38 AM The Deutsche markt is all corporate now. Went for a night out to see friends in Nottingham and the exact same scenario of ice rink, glubwein stalls etc was in the market square!!!

I felt the same last year... a bit sterile and contrived too
