Gaeus November 21st, 2007, 07:36 PM I don't think this should be categorized as tallest. Probably "highest" is a better term.
ZZ-II November 21st, 2007, 09:38 PM agree, but it is still impressive! imagine looking down 390m from a bride!
fettekatz November 22nd, 2007, 12:00 PM Impressive bridge, but it would be 'cheating' to count that canyon to the height.
chanyxp November 23rd, 2007, 12:46 AM Haha, tallest "bride"
Calvin W November 24th, 2007, 08:11 AM No worse than the French bridge, Millau Viaduct. The fact that this bridge spans an area almost 400 metres deep makes it the tallest bridge above ground to the road level.

city_thing November 25th, 2007, 01:05 PM LOL.
eomer November 25th, 2007, 01:15 PM Impressive bridge, but it would be 'cheating' to count that canyon to the height.
Why ?
It's allmost the same thing in Millau.
Records are made to be broken and this bridge looks awsome.
Abbaner Oz November 30th, 2007, 05:17 PM Sorry hahaha Tallest Bride...jajaja Bridge! hahaha, anothers Tallest bridges in Mexico:

Gaeus December 1st, 2007, 12:47 AM Why ?
It's allmost the same thing in Millau.
Records are made to be broken and this bridge looks awsome.
But Millau is really different. It is my definition of a real tall bridge and its the current tallest. If I build a bridge at Marianas Trench (the deepest of the earth) with boats or ships as a support for the bridge, do I call it "The Tallest Bridge"? Absolutely "NO".
mdiederi December 1st, 2007, 01:13 AM It will have the "highest roadbed" at 390 meters above the deepest part of the canyon. In Colorado, the Royal Gorge Bridge's roadbed is 321 meters above the river. Millau's roadbed is 270 meters above the river. Millau's towers, counting the piers and masts, are the tallest in the world at 343 meters tall. The Golden Gate's towers are 227 meters tall (above the water).
PopolVuh! December 22nd, 2007, 07:24 AM It'll be very a impressive view from up there...
gladisimo December 22nd, 2007, 11:25 AM eh, for all intents and purposes, they should count support pillar height/tower height
RSG December 28th, 2007, 01:46 AM But Millau is really different. It is my definition of a real tall bridge and its the current tallest. I agree.
Луиc December 30th, 2007, 08:44 PM ya! tallest!! :|
paw25694 January 1st, 2008, 10:46 AM woow cool!
lpioe January 1st, 2008, 10:30 PM Looks nice although I don't think it's really the tallest.
Any 3d renders or construction pics available?
Highest Bridges January 26th, 2010, 07:51 AM So Mexico can be proud as Baluarte will be the world's second highest road bridge when it opens in 2012, exceeded only by China's Siduhe bridge among all road bridges. Mexico will also be opening San Marcos and El Carrizo bridges in 2012 which will have the 2nd and 3rd tallest bridge piers on earth after Millau.
China just opened the world's 2 highest bridges in November and December. China now has fully one half of the world's 100 highest bridges.
In the U.S., the Royal Gorge Bridge in Colorado will soon be off the top 10 list of highest bridges. You can see all of the World's 500 Highest Bridges at my new website below. Nearly all of these bridges exceed 100 meters in height from deck to water.
Again you will see how amazing it is that China has more high bridges than every country in Europe combined plus North and South America and the rest of Asia. And there is more to come!
Thanks,
Eric Sakowski

Suspensionstayed April 29th, 2010, 01:51 AM After 3 years, I decided to change the thread title from "tallest bride" to "tallest bridge" :D
The title of this thread is still wrong as the Balaurte Bridge is not the worlds "Tallest Bridge". The Millau Viaduct in France is considered the tallest bridge. The Baluarte Bridge is not even the "Highest Bridge". That goes to the Siduhe Bridge in China. For further clarification please read the 2nd post above yours and check out the thorough website.

maybe you should decide to change the thread title from "tallest bridge" to "second highest road bridge" :D
or more precisely: "Baluarte Bridge - second highest road bridge U/C in Mexico"

RegioManio July 22nd, 2011, 01:30 AM Some facts about Baluarte Bridge –some of them have already been posted earlier in this thread, though-:
- It will be the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America (1)
- It will be the third highest bridge in the world (390 m over the Baluarte River), after Siduhe in China and Hegigio Gorge in Papua New Guinea (this is really a pipeline bridge). If we take out the latter due to its use, then Baluarte would be the second highest bridge in the world (2).
- In any case, it will be the highest cable-stayed bridge in the world (higher than Millau bridge, current highest) (2)
- This bridge is part of a bigger infrastructure road project, which represents the last phase to upgrade an old interstate road (interstate 40). Currently, this road is almost entirely a 4-lane road (redesigned) from Matamoros (close to Gulf of Mexico) to Durango. The last part will link Durango to Mazatlán (on the Pacific coast) and will be a mixed 4-lane and 2-lane (wide-shouldered) toll road.
- This last stage represents a dream pursued for a long time, due to the difficulties caused by the particular orography there (high mountains, and very steep and deep gorges. This is the Western Sierra Madre range). The current road is known as being very dangerous and its most famous part is called “Devil’s Backbone” because of its twisted curves and steeply slopes.
- In order to overcome these obstacles, the stretch from Durango to Mazatlan comprises more than 60 tunnels with a total length over 18 kms and 115 bridges – the Baluarte is one of them- (4).
- Once finished, the total distance between Matamoros and Mazatlán will be reduced by more than 70 kms (from 1202 to 1124 kms) and the stretch from Durango to Mazatlan will be reduced from 305 to 227 kms and the driving time will be cut by at least three and a half hours (4).
- The estimated total cost of the bridge will be approx US $170 millions and the road’s total cost approx US $1.7 bn (3).

No.
The highest bridge in the world is a bridge in China's called the Siduhe River Bridge. It's deck is 496 meters / 1,627 feet above the Siduhe River.
Eric Sakowski's Highest Bridges site:
http://www.highestbridges.com/wiki/index.php?title=List_of_500_Highest_International_Bridges
The world record that the Baluarte Bridge does have is that it is the world's highest cable-stayed bridge. The Siduhe River Bridge is a suspension bridge. Like it really matters.
messicano January 8th, 2012, 07:33 AM nice bridge

Les dejo fotografías cortesía mía, que tomé hoy en la mañana dichas fotos, como a las 11 AM, en la zona del puente Baluarte... (no soy buen fotógrafo, pero hice lo mejor que pude, con una cámara corriente)

You can see many more pictures of this new highway in this thread (in spanish)

This highway its amazing, lots of tunnels, bridges, cliffs, hills, even the weather and altitude in different zones its different, in this highway you can travel in less than 2 hours from snow in winter (in the mountains in Durango) to the beach (in Mazatlan)
RegioManio February 11th, 2013, 11:01 PM Amazing views! Not only Baluarte bridge but the whole highway from Durango to Mazatlan has one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Americas. Thanks for sharing, Jbte.
