Ugh, no offense, I loved the Philippines when I was there, but they have the weakest TV shows I have ever seen! Dubbed Korean Dramas, lame game shows, and "who wants to be a star/next singer/famous/dance better/ whatever shows". My girlfriend said it best, "everyone in the Philippines thinks they are stars", thats why there's all these singing/dancing/etc shows. The Korean dramas blow me away, they are great shows, but cmon, doesn't the Philippines have their own versions of this, except Captain Barbell?

I couldn't stand watching TV when I was there, nothing was good to me, and now the US is flooded with the "next star/singer/etc" shows, ugh.

source (http://www.mb.com.ph/ENTR20070902101831.html)

It seems that the controversy involving "Wowowee"’s host Willie Revillame and "Eat Bulaga’s" Joey de Leon is far from over, with the latter issuing terse statements in answer to Willie’s allegations. Even Senate is now poised to investigate what’s now perceived as some "dayaan" in "Wowowee." Sen. Mar Roxas who’s chairman of the Committee on Trade and Commerce, said they are going to serve a subpoena to the people behind "Wowowee" in particular Willie for them to explain why there’s this reported cheating in the game show. Senator Roxas also wants to know what the Department of Trade and Industry is doing about the alleged anomaly in the game show.

Sen. Lito Lapid, who’s chairman of the Senate Committee on Games and Amusement, and Sen. Bong Revilla, chairman of the Committee on Mass Media and Communication, also expressed their desire to have the alleged cheating be investigated. But first, they’re waiting for a report from the DTI and Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).

Joey, upon his arrival from Hong Hong last Thursday, answered Willie’s allegations against him first through an interview with Arnold Clavio and Ali Sotto’s popular radio program on DZBB, and later he issued his own statement towards the end of "Eat Bulaga" last Thursday.

First of all, Joey said (without ever mentioning Willie’s name) he didn’t know how to explain things and say sorry. "Wala siyang alam. Hindi niya kayang magpaliwanag. Explain first before you complain, my friend. Hindi niya kayang mag sorry." But Joey also said "naaawa nga ako dahil bobo..."

Willie’s answer: "I have nothing to explain because no one is complaining. Senate doesn’t need to investigate anything. I’ve only wanted to help the poor, to make them happy..."

Willie was tearyeyed (which Joey thought was "pilit," even saying "matuto kang umiyak nang may luha, madali lang kasi ang lumuha. Kumuha ka lang ng sibuyas. Sinusundot mo pa mata mo, baka magdugo yan") on "Wowowee" last Wednesday when he asked Joey (who was then vacationing in Hong Kong with some "Eat Bulaga" cast and execs) to stop playing with his reputation because he is not "mandaraya" (cheater). Willie asked Joey to stop making innuendos about the incident in his show’s new segment "Wilyonaryo" last Aug. 21 (for those who missed the segment, they can watch it on www.youtube.com).

Willie sounded emotional when he said Joey was his idol, one who’s big and who’s been up there already, and for the "Eat Bulaga" host to let the "small ones" like him to make it too. Willie recounted how he even made "paalam" to him when he was given the game show "Wowowee" to host. For this, Joey said that’s the only half-truth in what Willie said. "Totoo yon, nagpunta siya sa akin. Pero tingin ko hindi paalam. Pinagyabangan ako. Sinungaling talaga, magaling gumawa ng drama. Dinadrama niya lahat...mahal ko po kayo! May taong ganoon. Malansa. Traydor."

Joey added: "Nanggagamit. Ginagamit niya ako...wala lang siguro masabi, umiiwas sa isyu. Dinadamage control..." As to Willie’s claim that it’s hard to be a solo host of a show, Joey retorted why doesn’t he get a co–host? "Loko pala siya, puwede siyang kumuha ng kasama pero gusto niya siya ang bida. Ayaw niya na masapawan siya ng iba. Mayabang talaga ang _____na ‘yan. Kaya ba niya magshow ng anim?" Joey is currently doing six shows in various channels: GMA 7, QTV 11 and ABC 5.

By the way, in his characteristic funny way, Joey said Senate shouldn’t investigate anymore the "Hello Garci," controversy; instead they should concentrate on the "Hello Papie" issue. Willie is fondly called "Papie" by his female co-hosts in "Wowowee."

Here are some view points from the raging wowowee controversy: source (http://pinoy.rickey.org/?p=2590)
#
dc222, August 31, 2007 at 12:03 am:

I see what you’re trying to say lander.

The zeros are permanently stuck to the wheels. The four films of prizes were inserted over it, covering the zero (that has changed now though).

So every single wheel has a zero super glued, nailed, or stuck with kanin permanently. So we have all the wheels showing the big yellow zero.

The next step is to insert the four prize films into four wheels. Now we have four wheels showing prizes, the rest still showing the big yellow zero.

The final step is to cover all the wheels with the cover film, which is the only film that Willie needs to touch the entire show.

Why use a zero? In Pera O Bayong, they used zeros too. It wouldn’t matter if it was a zero or a blank piece of paper or a big W or a Wowowee logo or a huge hole… they’d still have to insert the prize films everyday.

As to what happened, Willie mistakenly pulled both films first, put them back in, then pulled JUST the 2 before finally realizing he made a mistake.
That’s all.

To the argument that Willie can LET someone win or lose by choosing what to pull, you can’t honestly believe ANYONE (Willie or any other sane person as host) would pull both films just to cheat a contestant out of winning when there are dozens of people in the studio and millions of people watching at home.

Anyone with eyes would be able to see Willie holding two films. He wouldn’t be able to hide the two films if he were to cheat. Cheating wouldn’t even be possible because it would very easily be seen and the contestant stands RIGHT NEXT TO the wheel and Willie. They would see if Willie pulled two films. EVERYONE would see Willie holding two films, there wouldn’t be any hiding it.

lander, August 31, 2007 at 1:13 am:

I got your point dc222. I’ve been trying to analyze what you said and I know what you mean. It would be very visible if Willie pulled two films. The question, however, is: Are you sure that the default zero is deeply rooted and stuck sa round thing or it too can be pulled out? Kasi let’s look at the possibilities ha:

Theory 1:
Zero is stuck/permanent/default.
Films inserted are the prize film and the cover film (which Willie would pull slowly to engage the crowd and ‘bitin2x’ the contestant.

Willie ‘accidentally’ pulled the cover and prize film. Zero film is left.

This means it’s human error. Willie’s fault. AND IT CAN HAPPEN without people knowing it. Meaning, decision pa rin ni Willie. Pero, partida na yan with people believing that Willie is innocent ha.

Bakit di directsahang inexplain at ipinaliwanag? Siguro, dahil they are following Theory 2.

Theory 2:
Zero is NOT stuck/permanent/default.
Films inserted are prize film, cover film AND zero film. If they want to give away the 2m, they will pull out the zero film and the cover film (which could be done in a snap because Willie’s hands are always behind the round thing.) And if they want to keep the 2m, theyll pull the prize film together with the cover film.

Question: Is the default 0 really stuck? If it was, the issue is solved by presenting it. So, why change the props using ‘mechanical glitch as the main reasoning?

Now, if you are someone who is an outsider, and especially someone who abhors/hates Wowowee, would you not question that fact?

I still don’t think you can appease the questioning public with your defense, mr/ms dc222. I didn’t say that Willie pulled both films to cheat. I’m saying Willie CAN pull any two films to cheat.

It's just art!

Willie Revillame 73.53 %

Wala-wala-wala 0.77 %

^ well, it is media war between GMA and ABS-CBN. But this Willie, even before, he already finagled a lot of moolah and cars from Princess Punzalan (the late Helen Vela's daughter) when they separated and she used to be the richer one. She just acceded because she loved him. Basta, napansin ko lang, na yang si Willie is always pandering on the Pinoy audience's emotions with his pa-drama drama effect. Pinapasok pa niya na siya "harassment" lang kaso si Joey, "hindi na niya sasabihin" (alluding to Joey's ancient rape case with the late Pepsi Paloma.) O, di sino ang nag-pe-personal dyan?

Joey was right when he said that Willie was trying to deflect the issue and sweep it under the rug.

At least, Willie is lucky that he was cleared of liability of that stampede fiasco in Wowowee. Eversince, I didn't feel good about it. To think, both of them are always being castigated and suspended by MTRCB before.

And why does Willie get all his million fans from abroad watching TFC if he's not credible? And besides tama sa shippuden, si Joey lang naman ang palaging nagsisimula ng mga personalan on air. But I have to agree with Lili on this one. I just feel like Willie is a master manipulator of the Philippine public. Uhog uhog. Iyak iyak. It's so transparent.

That explains why GMA now has the upper hand in the Mega Manila viewership game and is beginning to catch up in the other locations outside Mega Manila.

^^ are there any English FM stations in Iloilo for now?

For now, only feeds from Manila: RJFM and NU107. The rest, pang-masa. Anyway, the format of "pang-masa" at FM radio programming started in Iloilo. The pioneer: Bombo Radyo Philippines, StarFM.

^^ hahaha.. master sinjin tlga.. haha....
hopefully Monster RAdio RX will be interested in putting up a branch here in bacolod..

I hope they could but they might as well proceed with searching for local radio stations that will franchise Monster Radio. Again, Iloilo City and Bacolod City is quite congested. Quest Broadcasting even wanted to have their FM station (Killer Bee) established in Iloilo City but cannot proceed due to lack of air-space.

Anyway here's the e-mail from Tito Encarnacion last year of Quest Broadcasting.

Hi,

Thank you very much for the e-mail. We’re glad to know you listen to our Killer Bee station in Bacolod . Let’s see what we can do about the signal and try to fix it so you can hear Killer Bee more clearly.

We have been trying to look for a radio station there in Iloilo which can have a tie-up with us because we cannot put up our own station there anymore. It’s unfortunate that there are no more frequencies available in the Iloilo-Bacolod area which we can use. So, if you can help us look for station which would want to tie-up with Killer Bee then we would be glad to put up a music and party authority radio right there in Iloilo .

Our friends in the Recording industry have also been prodding us to put up a radio station in Iloilo . But there’s nothing much we can do right now.

Thank you.

Maybe the only thing that KillerBee can do is to expand its market and coverage. Instead of Bacolod alone, they may also include Iloilo market too since there is a greater number of students (which is their prime target market) in the area.

Same as DYVS Salvation AM or the Yuandong AM Station(Far East Broadcasting) of Bacolod City, their signal transmitter is big and clear and it can reach Iloilo City

habagatcentral1
September 5th, 2007, 05:23 PM
AM Radio Stations doesn't need to have a big transmitter since AM radio frequencies travel by the use of ground waves, therefore can travel vast distances.

FM radio station's coverage on the other hand can be hindered due to topography of the land or sea and thus needs either to intensify their broadcast signal or place their transmitter somewhere higher.

Greetings from Solar Entertainment
Corporation!

We would like to provide everyone with
updates on recent developments in the
area of programming, such as key
acquisitions, telecast policy and
business initiatives. Aside from having
the rights to ALL Manny Pacquiao fights
and the NBA games we also continue to
have exclusive rights to many of the
best properties for our sports and
entertainment channels.

Moving toward the last quarter of 2007
and into the New Year, We are happy to

television, closed-circuit television
and internet television for the following:

* 2008 Beijing Olympic Games
* 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games

Next year, 8/08/08, Solar will be
bringing to the Philippines an
unprecedented number of hours of various
Olympic sports through Pay Per View,

Beijing. In addition, Solar will be
sending its production crew to Beijing
to cover the participation of the

secured multi-year volume deals with
major studios and production companies
including the following:

* NBC-Universal Television

The deals give Solar first choice of
selection over all new products and
properties from the studios and provide
our cable affiliates the assurance that
all hit series such as 24, Heroes plus
the new series from the 2007 production
slate will exclusively have its

3. The most exciting news for all our
clients and agencies which we would like
to share with you, coinciding with the
start of the new Fall Season this
October, 2007, in the United States,
Solar will be scheduling series such as
Heroes, 24, Prison Break, Sarah Connors

schedule.

This means, instead of waiting for the
inevitable delay due to tape shipment

This dramatic scheduling innovation will
surely add more value to their viewing
experiences.

Of course, the current world class
sports properties will continue
including the FIBA games, U.S. NCAA,
Collegiate Champions League, PBL games,
French Open Tennis, Ultimate Fighting
Championship, Bundes Liga, La Liga, the

^^ In Iloilo, we resort in watching cable TV, Youtube or MP3s for updated music since updated is not readily available in Iloilo City due to the supremacy of "pang-masa" radio stations. Anyway, the trend today was to "masa-fized" the radio stations so that they could rake in tons of moolah from advertisers who prefer a general and diversified listeners rather than limited ones. I was shocked to learn that the remaining "English-oriented" GMA FM Radio Station in Manila (Campus Radio WLSFM 97.1) was "masa-fized" sometime earlier this year, like its sister stations in the region. The trend went to I! FM too several years ago.

A few days ago, we received a letter telling us that our area is part of Skycable's digital box area and that we are entitled to one or two FREE digital box. Between Sept. 22-29 kelangan daw malagyan kami kasi starting Sept 30, our area will be encrypted at pag wala kang digital box, wala kang reception. So fine, I called 2 days ago and the rep told me na hindi daw talaga free yung digital box. 1,500 bucks deposit ang babayaran pag kakabitan na. Galing no?

Nakakatawa kasi yun kasi she gives a blow by blow account of what she's doing like "Ako po ngayon ay naglalakad na.

Madalas din sila magbigay ng Orocan products as prize. Tapos tuwang tuwa yung mga host kapag may commercial kasi may sponsor na sila.

Chowtime (Channel 13) - It's starts around 11:30 am kasi nga mahirap makipagcompete sa Eat Bulaga at MTB tapos the show ends around 1:00 P.M.

..................

Acting career

Through the talent scout she got small roles in a couple of TV commercials/advertisements before getting her first major role in 1993 when she landed the role of Trini Kwan, the Yellow Ranger, on the original cast of the TV series Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The character was written around Thuy herself - an honorable, caring young lady who adored her friends and family.

Trang was on the show for about one and a half seasons. She left the show along with Austin St. John and Walter Emanuel Jones (it is rumored they left because of pay reasons), with whom she became very good friends, and was replaced by Karan Ashley. She went on to play Kali, one of the lead villain's in the 1996 movie The Crow: City of Angels.

Earlier the same year, she also appeared in Spy Hard as a manicurist. However, she was incorrectly credited as a masseuse, her credit being somehow switched with Tara Leon who played a masseuse in the same short scene.

She was set to appear in Cyberstrike, which never entered production. Trang also appeared in a video documentary called the The Encyclopedia of Martial Arts in 1995 as an interviewee.

Death

Trang died at the age of 27 in a car accident on September 3, 2001 near San Francisco, California. She and former actress/model Angela Rockwood-Nguyen, to whom Trang was to be a bridesmaid to later that year, were passengers in a car traveling on Interstate 5 between San Francisco and Los Angeles (they were returning from visiting Angela's planned maid of honor) when the driver (another of Angela's bridesmaids) of the vehicle she was riding in lost control. The car swerved violently across the road before hitting the roadside rock face and flipping several times before hitting the safety rail and plunging over the bank.

Rockwood-Nguyen, who has claimed both that she was[1] and wasn't[2] wearing a seatbelt in different interviews, survived despite being thrown out of the vehicle through a window before its final impact; as a result, however, she is now quadriplegic. Trang, who it is believed wasn't wearing a seat belt, died from the injuries she sustained. The driver is not believed to have suffered any lasting injuries but it hasn't been confirmed whether she was wearing a seatbelt or not.

Her Power Rangers co-stars Amy Jo Johnson, Austin St. John, David Yost and Walter Jones attended the funeral (at which Johnson spoke), a traditional Buddhist ceremony, held on September 10 at the Peek Family Funeral Home in Westminster, California

Sasabihin nila mga pangalang nila one at a time sabay posing bago makipagbakbakan sa kalaban.

I miss the days when they were just living in a house. Like the original Real World I, NYC and Real World III, SF and Real World NYC II. Even Real World New Orleans. i originally thought this was only for people who are in the US watching the current shows there kaya naging International...and most of the time, behind ang local channels by seasons, hindi lang episodes...

anyways, the foreign shows i watch are The Ellen DeGeneres Show (switched to that after i've had enough of Oprah-izing my life ); I Didn't Know That, History's Secrets, Air Crash Investigation, and Seconds from Disaster from the National Geographic Channel (i know, very nerdy...)...wala kasi kaming Discovery Channel; and live and pre-recorded broadcasts of all tennis events. :D

then i watch the news programs at Television Española, and every now and then i can catch a good movie with English subtitles at TV5 Monde. nakakatuwa rin mga cartoons nila.

there was a time when all i watched was MTV. i'm over that phase now; lumipat naman ako sa mga nerdy shows. hee hee.

Here is a new series from CBS every Wednesday 8pm.

Kid Nation a reality series about 40 kids (8-15 y/o)building a working community from the ruins of an abandoned city somewhere in the New Mexico desert.

An overview from Wikipedia

Kid Nation is a reality television show that began airing on the CBS network on September 19, 2007, filling the Wednesday 8:00 p.m. ET time slot of the serial drama Jericho. The show, featuring forty children aged 8 to 15, was shot at the Bonanza Creek Movie Ranch, a privately owned town built on the ruins of Bonanza City, New Mexico, eight miles south of Santa Fe.[1], with production beginning on April 1, 2007.[2] In the show, the children try to create a functioning society in the town, including setting up a government system, with minimal adult help and supervision.[3][4] The program was originally scheduled to air in the summer of 2007. The show is hosted by Jonathan Karsh[5].

The show stresses the difficulty in creating a viable society. At the end of each episode, an appointed council of kids awards the "Gold Star," worth $20,000, to a fellow participant. Participants were paid $5,000 for their involvement in the show's taping.[6]

Desperate Housewives maligns Philippine med schools
http://ivanhenares.multiply.com/journal/item/21

This came from my Ateneo High School batchmate Dr. Chino Perez:

I don't really watch this show. Here's another reason why you shouldn't too!

BOYCOTT THIS SHOW!

[In the episode entitled. "Now You Know", Susan's character was questioning the credibility of a gynecologist and said, "Ok before we go any further, can I check those diplomas? Cause I would just like to make sure that they're not from some med school in the Philippines. "]

- just recently posted by another Filipino doctor who watched the show in the US

From Yahoo! Answers:
Did any Filipinos watch Desperate Housewives on 9/30/07???

I was watching it online today and they made a comment that was a bit disturbing to me. It was a scene when Terri Hatcher was being told by her GYN that she might be hitting menopause, and her reply was something like "Wait a minute, I need to check your credentials.. I have to make sure that you didn't get your degree from the Philippines."

This upsets me because there are a lot of medical professionals that have graduated from the Philippines. I don't think that a direct pun was necessary in this particular situation.

Feedback????

ivanhenares

^^ But in the US, that could be considered racist. They should apologize. We have some great med schools here and that's a hasty generalization. Lest they forget, many of our doctors are serving them instead of serving us here.

^^ I don't think they can even get a license to practice it here if their diplomas and transcripts are fake. The Professional Education body usually requests the validity of your credentials directly from your school in the Philippines when you are applying to get a license. They won't accept diplomas or transcript coming from the applicant, unless you wanted to be a quack instead.

The remarks made on Desperate housewives is quite offensive in particular to the reputation of the Filipino doctors.

kiretoce
October 2nd, 2007, 02:57 AM
^^ The writers took creative license for that line, as is afforded them through their freedom of speech and artistic expression. Although it did made a stereotype more pronounced (not only to Filipinos but to all graduates of foreign medical schools), I just took it for its entertainment value.

And that is my opinion, as I am rightly entitled to it.

yep my favortie characters are Vorenus, Octavian, Atia, and Pullo. Others that I like are Gaia, Posca, Octavia, Servilia, Brutus, Jocasta, and of course Cleopatra.

Another thing, the rivalry between Atia and Servilia reminded me of Madame Claudia Buenavista and Amor Powers hehe.
