IGB Corp., a Malaysia-based player in the global hospitality business on Tuesday said, it is investing P750 million for the development of a business class hotel in Makati City.
The 29-storey structure, which will be called St. Giles Hotel Makati, will have 415 rooms.
This development marks the company’s first venture in the Philippines.
“We went here because we want to participate in the growth potential of the Philippines’ tourism industry. Construction will start in January 2008,” said Chua Seng Yong, president of IGB Corp.
Once completed on December 2009, IGB Corp. said it will scout for other potential hotel development sites in the country.
stephenpdavid November 27th, 2007, 09:13 AM Any exterior & interior renderings? :)
venntro November 27th, 2007, 09:14 AM Groundbreaking ceremony held November 27, 2007. This is located at the corner of Makati Avenue and Kalayaan just across North Park. This is also across the proposed The Eaton Makati (not to be confused with Lucio Tan's Eton developments). Very near the Antel, Rockwell and Century City developments.
While Chino Roces has a number of exciting developments, the northern part of the Makati CBD is holding its own with several exciting vertical developments as well. Makati CBD is indeed expanding!
venntro November 27th, 2007, 09:16 AM There is a small tarpaulin hanging in the fence. Perhaps resourceful forumers may get to take a photo of the small rendering and paste it here. It looks like it will have a glassy facade.

absolutblue November 27th, 2007, 12:23 PM Good location for a hotel. This is next to Millenium Plaza condotel right?
This area will really be different soon with A.Venue, Century City and now this hotel. Be good if The Eaton got built aswell.
carlo pontevedra November 27th, 2007, 01:27 PM Is this taller than the Millennium Hotel?
Ph Man November 27th, 2007, 01:39 PM this will be wall to wall with one existing tower there. (Millennium?) i've been there sat night but i haven't seen any rendering yet.

Kuala Lumpur real estate firm eyes business hotel in Makati
A MALAYSIAN property firm is investing P750 million to build a business class hotel in Makati, bullish on the financial district’s tourism potential.
IGB Corp., a publicly listed real estate firm in the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange which operates many hotels in Asia, has formed a subsidiary, St. Giles Hotel Manila, to handle the project.
St. Giles President Chua Seng Yong said the 29-storey hotel will be IGB Corp.’s first venture in the Philippines.
"The reason for this investment is actually very simple — we saw the growth potential of the hotel industry in the Philippines especially in the Makati district," he said.
The new hotel, to be called St. Giles Hotel Makati, which will be on the corner of Makati and Kalayaan avenues, will be managed by Cititel Hotel Management, the hotel management arm of IGB Corp.
Mr. Chua said the occupancy rates within the vicinity have been high. He declined to identify which hotels are being eyed as competitors.
Occupying an 827-square-meter lot, the hotel will have 415 rooms catering to corporate travelers. It will also have conference and function rooms and amenities such as restaurants and a pool.
Construction of the hotel will start in January and will be finished by December 2009.
Should St. Giles Hotel Manila become successful, the company could expand its operations. "At the moment, we’re looking at Bangkok and Vietnam as the next countries to expand our hotel business into," Mr. Chua said.
In Asia, the group owns the Renaissance and Boulevard hotels in Kuala Lumpur, the New World Saigon in Vietnam, and the Pangkor Island Beach Resort, Cititel Hotels, and the MiCasa hotel apartments in Malaysia.
In Europe, IGB has two hotels under the St. Giles brand, namely the St. Giles London and St. Giles Heathrow, two of the United Kingdom’s largest three-star hotels.
Apart from hotel development, IGB is also into building town-ships, condominiums, commercial buildings, hospitals and retail complexes. — Lovely Nica P. Lee

Ph Man November 30th, 2007, 03:14 AM no rendering at the site Fhoy. i changed my mind, i think this will be wall to wall, not with Millenium but with City Garden. I noticed the lot beside City Garden is also fenced.
renell November 30th, 2007, 07:01 AM I wonder why there's so much hotels there. Could it be the relative cheapness of properties there? It's not particularly appealing that area IMO, Legazpi probably offers better location, especially since the height limit there doesn't apply to residentials (or maybe it's completely gone, I haven't been informed)
Ph Man November 30th, 2007, 02:01 PM Rennie boy, they have the market. redlight district at Burgos St. i think that's the reason behind. in fact, there's another project, a mid-rise tower that got topped off without us noticing.

Yeah I would say thats the main reason, lots of foreigners frequent the area so good for business.
venntro April 24th, 2008, 05:12 AM I just passed by the area and they are already making excavations for the foundation of the building. The small placard hanging in the fence says it will be a 34 story building. Perhaps 29 stories above ground while there might be 5 basement levels so that it will all total 34 stories.

Ph Man April 15th, 2009, 09:04 PM which in fact was originally planned to be the country's tallest. :ohno:
in the meantime, i hope occupants of City Garden are not too distracted by the noise from the adjacent contruction. i was there last month and the noise can be heard inside if you are in a room right beside the construction. good thing city garden did not put any window on that side. it must have anticipated the contruction of a high rise right beside it. a comfortably close neighbor at that.

Eaton Square January 14th, 2010, 08:30 PM is this a 5- or 4-star hotel?
REDD808 January 15th, 2010, 01:48 AM Its about time a new hotel is established in this area, the city garden hotel and other nearby hotels and condotels are quite old already, except for the newer antel across the street. Is there a parking space for guests within the hotel? I guess its a major attraction for convenient parking, as compared to its neighbors where even dropping a guest could be a nightmare during rush hours. It would be great to see the interiors rendition if available. Thanks for the posts.
darknyt1 January 17th, 2010, 11:07 AM Looking good when finished. It will brighten up the area. Mercedes building, another hotel to be constructed is nearby too. Tallest Hotel in Manila will be the one in Ortigas as of now. Quite a cluster of hotels in that area.

Cebupacific July 8th, 2010, 11:38 AM This hotel apparently opened on 1 July 2010 and now has about three storeys open and trading, including the restaurant and about 50 to 60 rooms.
www.stgilesmakati.com is offering an introductory 'soft opening' rate of US$57 for 'Superior' rooms and US$72 for 'Deluxe' rooms, plus an extra US$7 per person for the buffet breakfast.
I doubt that the rooftop pool will be available before Christmas this year.
The hotel is a good addition to Makati and may encourage other hoteliers to invest in time. It sure seems like the Philippines tourism industry is now receiving quite a bit of investment which was not the case a decade ago.

of course not all the guests are into "that". I dont hate the place! Dyan nga ako minsan nag-stay kapag nasa pinas. Its so cheap yet so near the Ayala Center.
