For me personally - from best to worst.

1. Green Point Stadium, Cape Town
2. Soccer City, Johannesburg
3. Peter Mokaba Sports Complex, Polokwane
4. Moses Mabidha Stadium, Durban
5. Mbombela Stadium, Nelspruit
6. Ellis Park, Johannesburg
7. Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace, Rustenburg
8. Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Port Elizabeth
9. Vodacom Park, Bloemfontein
10. Loftus Versfeld, Pretoria

I personally think that a city like Pretoria should have had its own iconic soccer stadium... Loftus just sucks!!!!

Johannesburg - Loftus Versfeld in 2007 became the first sports stadium in South Africa to have more than one million spectators pass through it's gates in a calendar year.

By November 7, the multi-purpose stadium had accommodated 1 023 183 spectators - and at that date, there were still eight soccer matches remaining, including the clash between Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs on December 1.

Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United, Pretoria's two premier soccer teams and Kaizer Chiefs used Loftus Versfeld stadium as their home base in 2007. The PSL also staged some of their matches at what was until recently a stadium that catered for little more than rugby.

By the end of the year, 20 rugby and 43 soccer matches will have been hosted at Loftus in 2007, with the Deuriemikke music concert adding to the numbers to have passed through the stadium's gates.

This year was the fist time that more soccer supporters attended matches at Loftus than rugby supporters. The average attendance for Super 14 rugby matches was 41 286 spectators, and Currie Cup matches averaged 15 989 spectators per match. The rugby Test against England saw a full house of 50 000.

The attendance of spectators for all events at Loftus over the past years shows a marked annual growth. In 2003, 463 166 spectators attended events at the stadium. This figure rose to 650 951 the following year and to 730 250 in 2005, with 783 381 spectators attending in 2006.

The total number of spectators for 2007 is expected to top 1.2 million.

The upgrades at Loftus for the 2010 Soccer World Cup will commence in the near future.

Hehe...It always amuses me how the capies rank their stadium tops. Where's the objectivity boys? It's basically a poor man's MM without an arch.

Or are you saying the arch detracts from the design?

My my jealousy makes you nasty! I personally like it because it reminds me of something that I just can't put my finger on. It's simple yet elegant and looks "solid" if you know what I mean. So hard to explain.

Oh and btw look at how almost everyone else ranked their own stadium tops too lol.

To the people in Durbs... Our stadium costs even more than the MM Stadium in Durban, so I'm certain striking designs were not out of the question. The reason we go for simple elegance and not extravegant is because it does not suit Cape Town. It would detract from our natural setting and scenic beauty. We have "for a while now" had a development frame of mind to never let a development upstage the nature.

or the egos? Just a joke... hehe. Im feeling naughty today. I like Cape Town's elegant stadium, and Durban's is amazing (again, it fits into the city scape). I think both stadiums suit their surroundings. Durban has the wow factor (IMO), Cape Town's brings out the violins and vivaldi.

And I was in a stirring mood yesterday.

The country will have an amazing string of stadia - I wouldn't be surprised if by 2010, we have the best collection on the planet. They all have their own attraction and although personally I think MM has the biggest wow factor it may not have looked right in Green Point.

Agreed! Like the Vivaldi comment, but great way to put it... however, when it comes to marrying African traditionalism and modernity, must say Soccer City does a great job.
