Kulleri November 28th, 2007, 08:05 PM happy independence day and soon Kosova will get it's independence day and we will be celebrating it with US and EU backing. I don't think Romania and Greece and Russia will help Serbia now. Kosova has US, UK, France, Germany and 23 members of EU on it's side.

Yeah, I also think that too. I really do not understand why Romania has this position within the EU, when it really doesn't matter IMO, not now, not in the future, and irrespective of its rationale.
I just hope the Kosovo issue will be solved sooner rather than later so that the scarves of war are left behind and people start looking forward.
Happy day Albania from me too!

Independence from whom?
bgrs November 28th, 2007, 11:20 PM ^^ Does this have anything to do with the Balkan wars? I know they were exactly those years (1912-1914) ?
There were wars between the Ottomans and Greece/Bulgaria/Serbia then. As a result, the Ottoman empire was almost kicked out of the Balkans and soon after that, it collapsed and went into history. Later on, Bulgaria went into war with Greece and Serbia and lost.
Is it possible that your independance is a result of our war against the Ottomans?

Romania (and before that, it's historic provinces) has been an long time ally of Serbia since the invasion of the Ottomans in the Balkans. Actually, the king of Wallachia, Mircea even brought his contribution besides the Serbs at Kossovopolje. This is one important battle Romanians usually learn of in their history books (with the Serbian name even), similar in importance for Serbs like the battle of Mohacs for Hungarians. After that, across history, Romania did not actually fought the Serbs directly in any wars. So, basically, Serbia has been one of Romania's best neighbours throughout history, and I hope this is also valid for Serbia.
Coming back to current times, the leadership of the country, and especially the president opposes the main European project for Kossovo (along with other EU countries like Spain, Greece, Slovakia, each country having its own reason). Romania's reason is linked with Transnistria's tendency to break up from Moldova and establish a rogue state in EE. This (Kosovo) may be one of the few subjects where Romania's and Russia's interests coincide, nevertheless stemming from a fundamental divergence (Transnistria). While Romania supports Moldovan interests, Russia supports Transnistrian interests. I hope that Russians here will not get offended now: I am just presenting facts as I see them. Thanks.
On the other hand, while the US support an independent Kosovo (and Romania does not against the American will !!), the US do not support an independent Transnistria (and Romania supports the same idea).

Interesting you mention Benes in connection to Serbian policies in Yugo wars and after. Many people affected by czechoslovak post WW2 policies against the so called "hostile minorities", draw this parallel very often, so it's not all that surprising a hungarian brings it up. Interesting is this perception is completely wrong.
If there was a politician in the balkan wars that might resemble Benes, it was Tudjman, not Milosevic.
If there was a nation its fate might resemble the fate of Germans or Hungarians, it were Serbs.
Serbs like Germans or Hungarians tried to fight unjustified and futile wars to keep their empires together and to rule over folks who simply didn't want to be ruled over. They all used their ethnical minorities in territories in question as a tool and a pretext for the intervention.
We have a saying in czech that goes (something) like this: "who wants more, ends up with less". And indeed in the end of the day, all the aforementioned nations ended with very little in hands and their abandoned minorities in the seceded territories were to pay the most of the huge bill for the anventurous policies of their former protector states.
That's why I'm quite surprized by the lack of sympathy for the Serb from the Hungarians. IMO for Serbs Kosovo independence is as traumatizing as was Trianon for Hungarians - an event many Hungarians haven't swallowed until today.
If not worse.
I was pretty impartial (or better to say uninterested) on this issue before. But threads like this, full of waving flags, counting of newly erected statues of a national hero warrior and other sometimes rediculous, sometimes frightening products of an uncontrolled and overblown patriotism really make me wonder whether this community is already mature enough to secure fair living conditions to the remainder of serbian comunities, so that it can be given a green light to their full independence without the risk of starting yet another round of injustice, Balkans have "enjoyed" in the last (more than a) decade.

You sound very cynical...I had a diferent impression of you and did not expect that. You mean like, if the Serbs failed to deport people, they should now regret that?!? Am I correct??
liburni November 29th, 2007, 04:39 PM We have a saying in czech that goes (something) like this: "who wants more, ends up with less".
I think it is safe to say that the only nation that wanted MORE was Serbia, and sure enough it ended up with less, and proved your quote right.
Slovenes, are happy the way they are, Croats are happy they way they are, Montenegrins are happy the way they are, Albanians are/will be happy the way they are, Macedonians are happy the way they are, Bosnia is having some issues, and that has to do with seperatist Serb community that lives in Bosnia. I still dont understand, why Serbs want to leave Bosnia, its not like they were mistreated by the Bosnians the same way Albanians were mistreated by Serbs. So to prove your quote, your right. The only one that ended up with less is Serbia.

Your right, balkans has suffered in the last few decades considerably, but the source of that suffering was the attempt of creating a Greater Serbia. A country that still poses a threat to our region, while Albania has had the fewest issues with its neighbours ever since its independence and has been very constructive in a lot of issues. I personally dont see anything wrong with displaying of flags on such a day. Canada is G8, and a mautre country and believe me, on their day you will see flags everythere. I am sure the same thinghappens in your beloved Chezch republic, but it is cleare that you speak out of hatred for the Albanian nation rather than facts.
As far as whether were mature enough to take care of our minorities; well EU and US thinks so. We have guaranteed highest possible rights for the Serb community under the Ahtisari Plan. We have secured 15 seats in the parliament for 7 % percent of Serbs that live in Kosovo, We have intiated returns of Serbs that left Kosovo and built them houses from tax payers money. I think we have been more than generous in that aspect etc.

Would you be so kind and re-read my post once more? If possible, this time with your "world hates Albania" goggles off.
Because in the most of my post I just say the very same thing as you in your post.
Canada is G8, and a mautre country and believe me, on their day you will see flags everythere. I am sure the same thinghappens in your beloved Chezch republic
This is where I beg to differ: Neither Canadians nor Czechs (notice the spelling please) do start threads like this on SSC. Heck, even the overpatriotic Americans don't do so! :) And the day you notice why will be your true national holiday, because on this day Albania will emerge as a self confident country that doesn't need to compensate for its low self esteem by organizing lavish national parades and writing about it on every corner, including SSC.
Ok. So if this all is true, all the albanian Kosovars are humble about it and the future independent Kosovo administration will live up to their promises and will also be able to deliver them, it's definitely good news and you've got my blessing: go independent!:)
I'm no expert on Balkan politics and all my scepticisme stems exclusively from the level of patriotisme, many Albanians display here on SSC and that I personally find more than a bit unhealthy.
Kapedani November 29th, 2007, 06:04 PM Thank you for your constructive criticism....it matters very much to us.
And I appolagise for our countrymen for having opened a thread with pictures of the celebrations of Albanian independence day...in a forum...where opening up a thread of pictures of Deki-KG pissing on a tree from different angles is perfectly fine...I appolagise that we ruined your day with these pictures...becasue clearly...displaying flags on a national holiday...or these statues of these make-believe micky-mouse heros we have...is clear indication of our inferiority to you glorious Czechs.
So I'm sorry we ruined your day. Clearly...this was a traumatic experience for you. In the future...I advise you to keep away from threads with the word Albania on it...it may be damiging to your eyeballs.
And in the future...I also advise you to keep your obviously well-thought-out opinions of Albania to yourself...becasue even though we greatly appreciate the criticism of our silly flag day and our silly statues of our make-believe goat-headed heros...you did hurt our feelings!
So once more...your opinon MATTERS TO US.
--------------
Thank you...now stop wasting your time...and go find something else to do with it.
One of the most elementary things in life...if you don't want to do it...don't fuc*king do it. This applies to reading threads as well...
--------------
This better than anything else signifies the retarded state of some sections of this forum. A simple thread to say happy independence day...has to turn into a big discussion by 14 year olds who think their opinion matters. Any civilised person would have simply come in and said "happy bla bla bla"...or "have a crappy bla bla bla"...or ignored the thread entirely and not read it. Instead...any good 14 year old Balkanian...will want to stop by, smell the bottom of the tree for any dog urine...and then procede to piss on it...
You people are beyound pathetic...
---------------
Skender...anymore pictures of the celebrations?? Please post more...

HiRazor November 29th, 2007, 06:19 PM Thank you for your constructive criticism....it matters very much to us.
Your welcome.
As for the rest of your post: my first input on this thread was a reply to Qtya (a Hungarian) concerning his mention of Benes (post WW2 Czechoslovak president).
Something apparently unconnected to your national holiday. I therefore apologize for dragging this thread off topic and spoiling your SSC independence party, where any attempt to say something wiser or more complex than "hooray" is apparently sanctioned by an obtuse and obnoxious reply by an apparently retard person.
My apologies one more time.
A simple thread...has to turn into a big discussion by 14 year olds who think their opinion matters.
I agree wholeheartedly.
Edit: Of course, happy independence day to everybody!

Benes in his quite questionable and reprehensible way was the only politican who could creat the dream of all CE-EE nations... A country without major minorites home and abroad... I said nothing about his methods... Just the outcome... Did I say something bad?

Well, it sounded to me like you were praising the Benes solution for 'solving' the minority problems and then feeling sorry somehow for the Serbs who were not able to do it and now have to atone for it.
Anyway, this is a thread with a different topic, so let's swich somewhere else if we want to continue this discussion.

skender November 30th, 2007, 07:18 AM To let you guys know different cities in Albania decleared Albania's Independence in different days...Some on the 25th of November, some 26th, 27th and Vlora on the 28th. We celebrate the 28th though because we also celebrate it as Flag Day. But in Vlora it was the biggest with a lot of Albanian patriots. Ismail Qemali who was 68 years old at the time, decleared it in Vlora and he traveled 4-5 days from Durres to Vlora in the mud and rain with horses.

skender November 30th, 2007, 07:38 AM Well every year on the Night of November 29, the city of Tirana shots down. It is called a White Night in Tirana. So what pretty much happens is that there are parties for the Independence and Liberation (1944 from the Germans), with young people in one side of the city, the city hall is open and visitors (mostly familys) go inside to visit, there are movie screens watching old patriotic movies, different concerts etc. Most of the events go on throughout the night until the sun comes out again. I have some shitty pics at the moment from Flickr but hopefully i can get some good ones...
