Good photos, It's really great they continue construction instead of winter and frost conditions.

I have a question. I heard that the roof of the stadium will be foldable.

Do you know how the roof will be folding? Will it fold in the shape of the harmony? Or just big plates of the roof will be moving to the centre of the roof?

Will this construction be able to endure the tension of the windy conditions?

I think the roof must be very light, and if something is light wind may be real difficulty. We know that in Poland in autumn and spring (even in summer when there is a storm) we have strong winds.

I just said my opinion, which is "On topic", if you keep on calling me a troll, then obviously some day you might get banned from this website. Im not trying to get into a fight Sylver, I know that I did quite a while ago post some useless comments, but now i stopped, I already started to post some useful information like on the Euro 2012 threads, and just saying some opinions of mine that are "On topic".

Well, if several people call you troll, then maybe you behave like one. Let me remind you that I also expressed my opinions on Ukrainian preparations and you threatened me with a ban ;). It seems that you want to ban everyone that has different opinion to yours - that's what I call trolling :bash:

BTW, for the sake of respect for others, please cut down your lengthy signature: we all know you are a fan of Dynamo, Ukrainian team, Michael Jackson and you are ready for euro 2012. We don't need to look at it every time you post one-word comment on something.

I guess no one should say anything just let him spam away. People keep telling him to stop spamming and trolling but he does it anyway.
If he has even an ounce of intelligence he would know that he is wrong because its not one person that keeps telling him to stop. Its more like 20 people. Mods should just remove every other post he makes because 99% of them are useless. How many times in the same week can you say "great progress" in the same thread without being annoying?

They are working realy sloooooooooow.
Just look at the Bucharest arena, which also should be ready for 2012 EuroLeague-Final. It has the same capacity(55.200) and construction started aprox. at the same time. But that stadium is allready 75-80% built !!!! I don't know about the Warsaw arena, but in Bucharest the stadium should host at least one year long a few events before the EL-Final. Doesn't the same rule go for Warsaw too?
Anyway, in this rhythm it could be VERY CLOSE.

The construction of Stadion Narodowy is also in my opinion more complicated.

The first ring of stands, all the suporting pillars and the underground constructions are allready completed, remains a part of the upper ring and the retractable roof. The Warsaw stadium is practically still at ground level.
And i was not talking about the complexity of the two stadiums. The Warsaw stadium is surely the best of the two projects (in all terms, maybe the only positive feature for Lia Manoliu is that it will have a retractable roof), i was just wondering if it will be also finished on time. It doesn't matter if it's the most beautiful and modern stadium in the world if they don't finish it on schedule.

Just look on this picture

and you will understand why it is still at the ground level. Look how much of the stadium is hidden under the surface. Saying it is still ground level you must remember that it is almost half of the stadium from the lowest to the ground level.

Stadium in Bukrest - 120mln €
National Stadium in Warsaw - 300-350mln €

And this shows how complicated and technical advanced this stadium in Warsaw is going to be...

Stadium in Bukrest - 120mln €
National Stadium in Warsaw - 300-350mln €

And this shows how complicated and technical advanced this stadium in Warsaw is going to be...

You should read the whole forum about Lia Manoliu, not just the first page. The final cost of the stadium, after the project was modified last year, will be 170mln €. The retractable roof wasn't originally planned for example(extra cost: 20mln only for this modification).
And we shouldn't forget that a construction worker in Poland earns a little bit more than one in Romania. So the cost doesn't necessarily reflect a big difference in quality, as you seem to suggest.
If you ask me, the difference in costs mostly comes from that huge underground parking, and the higher quality cladding of the Warsaw stadium.Lia Manoliu will have actually no cladding at all) http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/3041/stadium2ai9.jpg
I don't want to continue this argument, i just observed that the progress of construction is slow, given the fact that it started two years ago. And you must admit that i'm right.
Once again: i was not arguing about which stadium is better! In fact i admit that i like the Warsaw project more.
BTW, where is this "Bukrest" you are talking about??? Never heard of it. :)

I don't want to continue this argument, i just observed that the progress of construction is slow, given the fact that it started two years ago. And you must admit that i'm right.Construction started like ~10 months ago (spring 2009), not 2 years...And 170mln and 300-350mln...Can you see the difference?

PiotrG
February 6th, 2010, 04:39 PM
1st phase of construction started at 29th october 2008 and lasted to 20th march 2009. Cost - ~29mln €. It had to be made, because the stadium place is near Wisla river, and the ground is very unstable (stadium is built on the old earthen embankment of X-anniversary Stadium, which are consist rubble of postwar Warsaw). All made piles were about 14k.

2nd phase of construction are reinforced concrete & steel roof system parts. Contract with General Constructor was signed in May 2009, works started in June 2009. Contracted cost - ~287mln €.
Stadium's structure are 10 usable floor under all tribunes with 2 level car park under pitch. Most of space will be fully finished, only office space won't be fully finished (this space is intended for rent by private investors, like in office buildings).
On 10 levels of stadiums inter alia will be business club (3650m2), conference center (10x Conference hall, foyer, 4275m2), cinema hall (521 m2, 266 seats), ballroom (232 seats), 4 restaurants, Fitness center (1199m2), Fan club (1875 m2), National Sport Museum (1703 m2), full facilities for the media (1276 m2 / 445 seats for journalists; 426 m2 / 135 seats for photographers), Ecumenical Chapel (266 m2 / 100 seats) + a lot office space, and will be reserve for additional commercial space in future)
68 skyboxes + vipbox (10x bigger than one skybox); business tribune, fanclub tribune, 2 levels carpark under pitch for 1765 cars, Retractable roof, all space under tribunes will be closed by interior elevation - spaces will be year-round.
It will use 100% of the space under tribunes.
The cost is also higher, because it is a need to renew parts of the old stadium (tunels, wall around old embankments).

Now, unless you can see the difference so that the stadium in Warsaw is more expensive than in Bucharest.

The progress of construction isn't slow - schedule of the 2nd phase is very tight.

And in Bucarest is the same weather?...

I will quote "The opening match is scheduled to be staged at the new 70,000-capacity National Stadium in Warsaw when construction work is completed in 2009 at a cost of ¤400 million.":lol:
you can see that these three information on cost, capacity and completion are wrong.

this information comes from 19 april 2007 then no one knew what capacity of this stadium would be.

as far as I know the decision that our National Stadium will have 55 000comes from November 2007, before they decided which firm will design this stadium.

So I'm wrong and these sources are wrong too...

I'm sure, we had a stadium with 70.000 seats in our bid!

BTW, 1.200.000.000 PLN = ~400 mln USD

March 12th, 2010, 01:02 AM
Looks far too big for a capacity of only 55,000.

Despite this, it's an impressive looking stadium, although I prefer the smaller ones planned / under construction in Warsaw (for Polonia and Legia).

Can we assume there will be significant progress on this stadium as we are coming to the final 2 years until the Euro 2012 tournament?

fgdf
March 12th, 2010, 01:56 AM
This stadium is for football National Team (which isn't the best team out there) games and nothing more. Why the hell do we need 70k seats? Despite fact there are 5 +40k other stadiums uc. Not even concerts could made up to runnning cost of such thing.

I agree with you that they planed a stadium with 70 000 seats but I want to explain you that when JSK & GMP started designing our National Stadium they already knew that capacity will have to be 55 000, so this picture with three tiers shows a stedium with capacity of 55 000 not 70 000.

This is one of few conceptions from 2007 (after the grant of EURO 2012 in Poland and Ukranie). In the same year was started the tender for the stadium project for 55k seats. JSK won the invitation to tender (in december 2007), and it is their project is realizing. This tender was forced capacity, retractable roof, maximum use of space under the stands for commercial activity, and adaptation for other events (pitch protection, rooms for artist etc.) The stadium was designed to be profitable without a league football team.

****************************

Wrzucę dziś parę zdjęć, a resztę jutro.

Oh ok. I ask because it seems like a waste to have such a great stadium go practically unused. Whats the legacy plan outside of hosting the odd international?

That is true right now because there was no one stadium meant for this purpose.
The National Stadium in Warsaw is being built for that reason. It will be our Wembley. Once the stadium is complete all international games will be played there.
The exception to that will be international games at the other stadiums being built/renovated for Euro 2012. Poland will play at each stadium to celebrate the opening.

I didn't understand the question :(

The National Stadium in Warsaw is being built for that reason. It will be our Wembley. Once the stadium is complete all international games will be played there.

If it's true it is so bad to take an example from England in this case. England is very centralized country. London's metro population is 27% of England's population, while Warsaw's metro population is 9% of Poland's population. More than 1/4 of England lives in London and its metro area so it makes much more sense to play all the matches in that city. In addition, England's area is 2.5 smaller than Poland's one.

Have officials already claimed all international matches, except the opening ones in the other cities, will be played in Warsaw?

So the Polish national team will use this stadium exclusively for all matches after Euros?

I doubt it. I'm sure that an occasional game will be played at other venues but I suspect that most games (75%?) will be played in Warsaw if only to ensure that the stadium is commercially viable.

^^
I suppose economy will decides about that. Simply for matches with big numbers of fans only two stadiums will matter: National Stadium in Warsaw and National Stadium in Chorzow because both has highest capacity (about 55000). But for smaller events all other stadiums would matter. The important fact is that this stadium belongs to the state and state do not decide where the match of national team is but PZPN wich always will chose the most profitable venue for them, and sometimes it will mean smaller = chaeper stadium.

It would be a shame to not use it for all national polish matches
but its true that for some friendly matches PZPN can choose some smaller one

IMHO it should be used for every match :)

It would be a travest if my city, Poznań, the best city in Poland wasn't hosting national team matches when we have the best football fans in the country and a stadium for 46k.

My opinion is that national teams should play matches around the country and not only in one stadium...this way everyone has the chance to watch their national team.

There are cars, buses, trains... I think people are perfectly happy to travel to see their national team at the stadium of appropriate size :). Not everyone lives in Spain, England or Germany, full of high-capacity venues.

My opinion is that national teams should play matches around the country and not only in one stadium...this way everyone has the chance to watch their national team.

This year's winter in Poland was the coldest for several years. 2 months of temperatures under -15*C (in several weeks under -20*C) and heavy snowfall. Construction was delayed about two months because of winter.

With this pace, I think that they can finish building it by the end of the year (Or the begining of 2011) :)

Actually the construction is slightly delayed due to long winter. The opening is planned in the middle of 2011.

a nawet dachu pobliskiego wysokościowca,
więc zaczynamy od zdjęć zrobionych na trybunie wschodniej.
Tu widać, że na trybunie zachodniej trwają już "tylko" prace kosmetyczne,
a sama trybuna cieszy oko kształtami...

what they should do now is build a 60-70 k world class stadium in Krakow, potentially as part of a World Cup bid.

That would be awesome! Though I suspect the Warsaw would get jealous and want to have the bigger stadium;)

But Poland should seriously conisder a World Cup bid I think, as in start trying now (because it might take a few tries to get it). There are lots of cool brand new stadiums going up, add a few more big ones and you'd have a nice set.

On a side note, I believe this stadium was originally tipped to be 70 000, but was scaled back a touch to 56 000, shame, but in reality how often do you fill even 56k?

It looks superb, and quite large really, I guess size wise given some like the stadium in Cape Town was sunk into the ground a bit, this one externally looks almost as big.

In any case, top stuff!

damn.. not bad. i didnt realise the stadiums are almost done, then why am i hearing UEFA are unhappy and there is a chance they might move the tournament.
I'm planning on attending Euro 2012 but if its very expensive, I may not. I looked at some hostels and their normal rates in June/July are 50 dollars per night. Hotels are more than 100 dollars per night. ouch.

There are many hostels offering prices lower than 50$ and hotels < 100$. At least for now. But I'm not sure how it's gonna be in summer 2012 :dunno:

This topic is about our (POLISH) national stadium. The problems you could hear about are connected with Ukraine.
Btw. all that "moving stuff" is simply a bullshit.

PS I don't know Warsaw's hostels but I am completely sure that you will find ones that offer 1day staying for less than 50$. 50$ = circa 3-4 days. Correct me if I am wrong (to Poles from Warsaw).

Are u sure? I was in Kraków some months ago and one night cost me ~40 PLN (1$ = 3,2 PLN)

PS3 This stadium is (or rather: will be) beautiful!

Couple of months ago, I slept in nice hotel in Raszyn, 1km from south Warsaw border. There was nice bus connection with Warsaw (10min to south districts)
Price for night was about 30$ so if you look good, you can find something cheap with good conditions. :)

Which city? Warsaw?
Hotel rooms cheaper than 200zł per night (less than 63$) in Warsaw (booking (http://www.booking.com/searchresults.html?label=gog235jc&sid=7799243b414079412f37acd2b11e128c&checkin_monthday=3&checkin_year_month=2010-8&checkout_monthday=4&checkout_year_month=2010-8&city=-534433&class_interval=1&clear_group=1&group_adults=1&group_children=0&offset=0&pr_cur_code=PLN&pr_id=1&radius=16&si=ai%2Cco%2Cci%2Cre%2Cdi&ss_all=0&lang=en-us&selected_currency=hotel_currency))
Some of the Warsaw hostels link (http://www.eholiday.pl/noclegi-warszawa-46008-hostel.html) Prices starting from 11$.

And remember - it is often possible to bargain for discounts. Some of my friends who work in hotel business in Krakow say that you can get even 50% discount if you know how to bargain. At least Poles try to do that :) For foreigners it might be tough.
