I have a question. I heard that the roof of the stadium will be foldable. Do you know how the roof will be folding? Will it fold in the shape of the harmony? Or just big plates of the roof will be moving to the centre of the roof? Will this construction be able to endure the tension of the windy conditions? I think the roof must be very light, and if something is light wind may be real difficulty. We know that in Poland in autumn and spring (even in summer when there is a storm) we have strong winds. But that stadium is allready 75-80% built !!!! I don't know about the Warsaw arena, but in Bucharest the stadium should host at least one year long a few events before the EL-Final. Doesn't the same rule go for Warsaw too? Anyway, in this rhythm it could be VERY CLOSE. The first ring of stands, all the suporting pillars and the underground constructions are allready completed, remains a part of the upper ring and the retractable roof. The Warsaw stadium is practically still at ground level. And i was not talking about the complexity of the two stadiums. The Warsaw stadium is surely the best of the two projects (in all terms, maybe the only positive feature for Lia Manoliu is that it will have a retractable roof), i was just wondering if it will be also finished on time. It doesn't matter if it's the most beautiful and modern stadium in the world if they don't finish it on schedule. Evil78 February 5th, 2010, 07:23 PM Stadium in Bukrest - 120mln € National Stadium in Warsaw - 300-350mln € And this shows how complicated and technical advanced this stadium in Warsaw is going to be... You should read the whole forum about Lia Manoliu, not just the first page. The final cost of the stadium, after the project was modified last year, will be 170mln €. The retractable roof wasn't originally planned for example(extra cost: 20mln only for this modification). And we shouldn't forget that a construction worker in Poland earns a little bit more than one in Romania. So the cost doesn't necessarily reflect a big difference in quality, as you seem to suggest. If you ask me, the difference in costs mostly comes from that huge underground parking, and the higher quality cladding of the Warsaw stadium.Lia Manoliu will have actually no cladding at all) http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/3041/stadium2ai9.jpg I don't want to continue this argument, i just observed that the progress of construction is slow, given the fact that it started two years ago. And you must admit that i'm right. Once again: i was not arguing about which stadium is better! In fact i admit that i like the Warsaw project more. BTW, where is this "Bukrest" you are talking about??? And you must admit that i'm right.Construction started like ~10 months ago (spring 2009), not 2 years...And 170mln and 300-350mln...Can you see the difference? PiotrG February 6th, 2010, 04:39 PM 1st phase of construction started at 29th october 2008 and lasted to 20th march 2009. Cost - ~29mln €. It had to be made, because the stadium place is near Wisla river, and the ground is very unstable (stadium is built on the old earthen embankment of X-anniversary Stadium, which are consist rubble of postwar Warsaw). All made piles were about 14k. 2nd phase of construction are reinforced concrete & steel roof system parts. Contract with General Constructor was signed in May 2009, works started in June 2009. Contracted cost - ~287mln €. Stadium's structure are 10 usable floor under all tribunes with 2 level car park under pitch. Most of space will be fully finished, only office space won't be fully finished (this space is intended for rent by private investors, like in office buildings). On 10 levels of stadiums inter alia will be business club (3650m2), conference center (10x Conference hall, foyer, 4275m2), cinema hall (521 m2, 266 seats), ballroom (232 seats), 4 restaurants, Fitness center (1199m2), Fan club (1875 m2), National Sport Museum (1703 m2), full facilities for the media (1276 m2 / 445 seats for journalists; 426 m2 / 135 seats for photographers), Ecumenical Chapel (266 m2 / 100 seats) + a lot office space, and will be reserve for additional commercial space in future) 68 skyboxes + vipbox (10x bigger than one skybox); business tribune, fanclub tribune, 2 levels carpark under pitch for 1765 cars, Retractable roof, all space under tribunes will be closed by interior elevation - spaces will be year-round. It will use 100% of the space under tribunes. The cost is also higher, because it is a need to renew parts of the old stadium (tunels, wall around old embankments). Now, unless you can see the difference so that the stadium in Warsaw is more expensive than in Bucharest. The progress of construction isn't slow - schedule of the 2nd phase is very tight. http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/4603/harmonogramsn.jpg PiotrG February 9th, 2010, 03:35 PM 09.02.2010: http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/2230/foto7zu.jpg http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/8848/70961471.jpg http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/8464/89902214.jpg http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/5751/65104471.jpg http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/192/43053941.jpg http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/6016/41499476.jpg http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/2860/fotoml.jpg http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/7471/foto2y.jpg http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/6907/foto3gm.jpg http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/8140/foto4x.jpg http://img704.imageshack.us/img704/8863/foto5g.jpg http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/8031/foto6u.jpg http://stadionnarodowy.org.pl/ JeV February 10th, 2010, 08:30 PM Some of roof elements arrived in Warsaw: http://www.tradetrans.eu/upload_editor/Image/fotosy/NEWS/2010-02-10%20Stadion%20Narodowy/DSC04640.jpg http://www.tradetrans.eu/upload_editor/Image/fotosy/NEWS/2010-02-10%20Stadion%20Narodowy/DSC04637.jpg http://www.tradetrans.eu/upload_editor/Image/fotosy/NEWS/2010-02-10%20Stadion%20Narodowy/DSC04644.jpg JeV February 11th, 2010, 12:22 PM Gallery of technical audit in Cimolai - Italy where roof elements are made. http://stadionnarodowy.org.pl/news,256,Audyt-techniczny-w-zakladach-Cimolai.html plasticterminator February 11th, 2010, 05:45 PM hmm, already seen somwhere... ah, of course http://teachers.greenville.k12.sc.us/sites/ekrezdor/Wonders%20of%20the%20World/john-hughes-inside-the-colloseum.jpg I particularly like the underground chariot park on this one! michal_OMB February 11th, 2010, 07:47 PM Mqa_dje7n7c JeV February 19th, 2010, 10:08 PM http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/7821/img4650hdr.jpg http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/4889/img4713.jpg http://img641.imageshack.us/img641/5827/img0544z.jpg MORE: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=52173495&postcount=11147 http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=52178601&postcount=11151 JeV February 25th, 2010, 07:18 AM Different perspective - photo taken by Pstrykacz http://czarnota.org/gallery/albums/warszawa/zmiany/___Praga/StadionNarodowy/2009/2010_02_21_-_002_-_Warszawa_-_widok_z_Palacu_Kultury_-_Stadion_Narodowy.jpg PiotrG February 25th, 2010, 06:01 PM 24.02.2010: http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/7043/86542004.jpg http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/641/16560046.jpg http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/9660/64017075.jpg http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/7136/73769388.jpg http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/217/31149954.jpg http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/3512/54075581.jpg http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/2714/82229134.jpg http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/8951/97680186.jpg http://stadionnarodowy.org.pl/news,262,Przygotowania-do-montazu-trybun-na-Stadionie-Narodowym-w-Warszawie.html JeV February 26th, 2010, 11:45 PM Pictures by Polex: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpost.php?p=52582107&postcount=11293 SAMPLE: http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/1199/img4887u.jpg m4rcin February 27th, 2010, 03:44 PM  Perun February 27th, 2010, 11:07 PM Warsaw [by Polex] http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/9750/paanor4.jpg http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/4315/paanor1.jpg Solicitor February 28th, 2010, 08:18 PM ^^Just one word WOW Marquisse March 1st, 2010, 08:05 PM They are working realy sloooooooooow. Konrad85 March 11th, 2010, 11:37 PM ^^ You're still wrong, because the information from this link is wrong. I will quote "The opening match is scheduled to be staged at the new 70,000-capacity National Stadium in Warsaw when construction work is completed in 2009 at a cost of ¤400 million.":lol: you can see that these three information on cost, capacity and completion are wrong. this information comes from 19 april 2007 then no one knew what capacity of this stadium would be. as far as I know the decision that our National Stadium will have 55 000comes from November 2007, before they decided which firm will design this stadium. likasz March 12th, 2010, 12:08 AM Here are polish sources http://www.euro2012-pl.org/art/stadion-narodowy http://stadiony.net/news.php?n=494 So I'm wrong and these sources are wrong too... Despite this, it's an impressive looking stadium, although I prefer the smaller ones planned / under construction in Warsaw (for Polonia and Legia). Can we assume there will be significant progress on this stadium as we are coming to the final 2 years until the Euro 2012 tournament? fgdf March 12th, 2010, 01:56 AM This stadium is for football National Team (which isn't the best team out there) games and nothing more. The National Stadium in Warsaw is being built for that reason. It will be our Wembley. Once the stadium is complete all international games will be played there. The exception to that will be international games at the other stadiums being built/renovated for Euro 2012. Poland will play at each stadium to celebrate the opening. Playmaker June 17th, 2010, 12:42 PM Whats the legacy plan outside of hosting the odd international? I didn't understand the question :( The National Stadium in Warsaw is being built for that reason. It will be our Wembley. Once the stadium is complete all international games will be played there. If it's true it is so bad to take an example from England in this case. England is very centralized country. London's metro population is 27% of England's population, while Warsaw's metro population is 9% of Poland's population. More than 1/4 of England lives in London and its metro area so it makes much more sense to play all the matches in that city. In addition, England's area is 2.5 smaller than Poland's one. Have officials already claimed all international matches, except the opening ones in the other cities, will be played in Warsaw? jwojcie June 17th, 2010, 01:48 PM ^^ No, they don't and it is highly unlikely they will JeV June 17th, 2010, 10:14 PM 17.06.2010 Czwartkowo - Pałacowo ;) http://img697.imageshack.us/img697/8109/p6170072.jpg Eno June 18th, 2010, 02:44 AM So the Polish national team will use this stadium exclusively for all matches after Euros? I doubt it. I'm sure that an occasional game will be played at other venues but I suspect that most games (75%?) will be played in Warsaw if only to ensure that the stadium is commercially viable. jwojcie June 18th, 2010, 11:52 AM ^^ I suppose economy will decides about that. Simply for matches with big numbers of fans only two stadiums will matter: National Stadium in Warsaw and National Stadium in Chorzow because both has highest capacity (about 55000). But for smaller events all other stadiums would matter. The important fact is that this stadium belongs to the state and state do not decide where the match of national team is but PZPN wich always will chose the most profitable venue for them, and sometimes it will mean smaller = chaeper stadium. It would be a travest if my city, Poznań, the best city in Poland wasn't hosting national team matches when we have the best football fans in the country and a stadium for 46k. Though I suspect the Warsaw would get jealous and want to have the bigger stadium;) But Poland should seriously conisder a World Cup bid I think, as in start trying now (because it might take a few tries to get it). There are lots of cool brand new stadiums going up, add a few more big ones and you'd have a nice set. On a side note, I believe this stadium was originally tipped to be 70 000, but was scaled back a touch to 56 000, shame, but in reality how often do you fill even 56k? Hotels are more than 100 dollars per night. ouch. This topic is about our (POLISH) national stadium. The problems you could hear about are connected with Ukraine. Btw. all that "moving stuff" is simply a bullshit. PS I don't know Warsaw's hostels but I am completely sure that you will find ones that offer 1day staying for less than 50$. 50$ = circa 3-4 days.
