It already looks like huge UFO at night, with all those white and red lights at the top. It makes huge impression, specially when you cross Vistula river. I've seen lot's of stadiums in my life, but this one, due to location and size as well as the fact that it's located on a little artificial hill is something absolutely stunning :cheers:

I'd prefer Warsaw's stadium. You won't have to use binoculars to see the game, because Stadion Narodowy is a football stadium. Stadium in Kiev might be good, but for Athletics.

I taka mała uwaga - nawet po instalacji dachu siatka elewacji zewnętrznej będzie mało widoczna w górnej części. Sądzę, że gdyby nawet membrana była czarna to efekt mógłby być tylko nieco lepszy. Pełna widoczność siatki w tym miejscu zależy od kąta padania promieni słonecznych.

Look closer - apart for the white-red decorational facade, the stadium has normal facade as well (only stairs will be exposed).

Looks better in my opinion without the white and red at the bottom - it would look more borring with everything covered.

but, yes, theoretically everything can happen:) lets hope it wont.

Its a good answer and makes sense of the concept. If you look at the covered membrane parts of roof the arch (radius) is smaller because of the material tension. It flattens it somewhat. This concept will work well for rain no doubt. But snow comes with ice and frozen rain. So i wonder if ice will build up in the center of arch and further snow / precipitation will collect or stick in the center to it and break? It may take a good downfall to do this, but I just wonder why they even consider this design here?

Well, to that I don't know the answer. We can only speculate. Maybe membrane roof was chosen due to its relatively low weight?
membrane garage, central spire, screens, they all are quite heavy. Maybe it was possible not to make a tent, but that would cause enlargements [both in cost and sizes] of the entire steel structure. or entirely different design [~ Chorzów, Kiev stadiums] and the concept was to achieve crown / basket looking shape. – notice that there will be no upper ring to make stadium "lighter" in perception.

Membrane is not so heavy like metal and better for the picth (more light).
But on the other side it "swallows" the sound waves.

IMO the we won't see the Schalke problem here.
Schalke has got a different style. Thi one is like Stuttgart. Many small "hills" etc.

It will become white in a few weeks/months. It's is already at the top. There is less sun at the bottom so it will take some time.

Nice pics! This stadium is going to have an amazing atmosphere no doubt! Just one question, will the top row be protected by some barriers of some sort. I see in that picture that guy leans over to see the facade but it doesn't look that high, someone could easily jump or fall over there...

whats u/c behind the stadium?

unfortunately nothing yet :|
there is an master plan [a great one in fact] for that grounds but i dont think we will see any development in years to come.
Now they just clean up the mess after huge market/china town, and reconstruct the train station. in 2012 there will just "park" with grass alleys and some trees.
but maybe that's better 'cos they wouldn't finish constructions by Euro so instead of sites and excavations there will be just an organized green zone for parking, VIP area and fan gathering zones.

there was a scheme of how the grounds will be used during the tournament.
If you wish i can look it up later on. as well as the [probably unrealizable:(] master plan that won the competition.

W Dubaju pracują Hindusi bez podstawowego wykształcenia i za miskę ryżu. Polacy tam są inżynierami.
Co do pracy na wysokości. Kiedyś było tak że wysokość zaczynała się od 1m /w wyższych mieszkaniach wymiana żarówki już podpadała/ i trzeba było co roku szkolenie BHP przechodzić oraz rozszerzone badania okresowe.

I appreciate your permission to keep dreaming. Believe me, if I had a dream it wouldn't be Germany and Poland hosting an Olympics. As far as I know the Polish origin of a company (not necessarily name, though) is not a must, it's only the most preferred and encouraged option (as if naming rights for a national stadium was anything good). So there is still room if a big international company, which might raise the argument of long cooperation or traditions in Poland, decided to join with a bid.

WARSAW, Poland — Officials say faulty stairs in Poland's new National Stadium could delay the opening of the venue which will host the first game of the 2012 European Championship.

Managers of the stadium under construction in Warsaw said on their website on Wednesday they were postponing indefinitely the sale of tickets for what was to be the first event there on Aug. 6, a motocross competition.

The decision by the National Sports Center comes after inspectors detected faulty assembly of the stadium's prefabricated steel-and-concrete steps that could pose a danger to users. If a complete reassembly is required then the opening planned for June 30 would be postponed by a month.

Poland and Ukraine are co-hosting Euro 2012.

Guys, we don't know yet whether full reassembly of the stairs would be required. It's possible that they only need to be reinforced or even only have gaps refilled with binder. So let's not panic, we should have more news this week.

Btw - opening was not at all planned for June 30th, as the Canadian Press news informs. This is the deadline for ocnstruction works to end, but then there's still a lot of work ahead of the opening, which is scheduled for August and for the time being it hasn't been postponed.

How much delay will this cost now, where all sides piss on each other playing the blame game and who will pay to fix it. This has to much potential to bring things down to a halt.

No tender is needed, there's special legislation ahead of Euro 2012 that allows procedures to skip tenders. Still, it would take weeks for one company to leave the place and another install itself. So your point is still valid :)

Warsaw's National Stadium to Be Ready on November 30 - PM

Listed builder Hydrobudowa will become consortium leader for building the National Stadium, which should be ready by November 30, Prime Minister Donald Tusk told a news briefing on Wednesday.

Until now Alpine Bau has been consortium leader with 50% stake in the 1.25 billion zlotys net contract. PBG and its unit Hydrobudowa are responsible for the remaining 50%.

"The split 50:50 remains," PBG CEO Przemyslaw Szkudlarczyk told broadcaster TVN CNBC, adding that the division of tasks within the consortium should also remains the same.

The deadline for stadium's completion was extended to November 30, a "realistic and safe deadline," Tusk said.

The budget for the project will not be exceeded, the PM added.

I'm glad they are starting to build and construct brilliant modern stadiums but do they have a youth/academy system setup there? And how effective is it? The reason i'm asking is because they always use the same players in major tournaments for a few years i.e - lewandowski's and smolarek's. And yes it's all well and good doing well in friendlies and qualifying but in the major tournaments these so called big players don't perform. I'm sure there's a whole lot of talent in Poland for football and I would like them to do well next year but i have the current fear that they're just going to be embarassing again and not even compete well enough to get past the first rounds.

So comments are welcome and i hope there is a bright future in place for Polska being half polish myself after so many years of misery.

The goal was a Hilarious own goal,and Poland was practically playing with the B-team, its good result. Nothing to complain.

I'm not sure to understand all things you wrote, and I apologize if I misunderstood. But if you consider that Poland played with a B-team, the french team played also with a B-team. Only Abidal and A. Diarra can be considered as members of the original team.
And the french newspapers didn't praising anything. They were just disapointed of the previous matchs against Belarus and Ukraine and they were just expected more from this team. Against Poland, it was just a little bit better than the 2 previous matchs, and the french newspaper underlines that. That's all.

Not only that, but Argentina went to Poland with a B to C squad. The same one who lost 4-1 at Abuja. But I blame Argentina for not calling it their B side.

I'm glad they are starting to build and construct brilliant modern stadiums but do they have a youth/academy system setup there? And how effective is it? The reason i'm asking is because they always use the same players in major tournaments for a few years i.e - lewandowski's and smolarek's. And yes it's all well and good doing well in friendlies and qualifying but in the major tournaments these so called big players don't perform. I'm sure there's a whole lot of talent in Poland for football and I would like them to do well next year but i have the current fear that they're just going to be embarassing again and not even compete well enough to get past the first rounds.

So comments are welcome and i hope there is a bright future in place for Polska being half polish myself after so many years of misery.

The objective of the programme “My sports field – ORLIK 2012”, presented by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland Donald Tusk in his inauguration speech of 23 November 2007, and prepared by the Minister of Sport and Tourism, Mirosław Drzewiecki, is to build general-access, free of charge sports fields with locker rooms and sanitary facilities, in all Polish municipalities. The idea of the Programme is to make modern sports infrastructure available to children and youngsters to allow them to take up regular sports training.

One of the problems of recent years has been the lack of a clear vision of sports infrastructure development in Poland. Development is chaotic and construction projects are often excessively costly. It is obvious that there is a shortage of modern sports facilities.
One of the key tasks of the State is to ensure that the citizens are able to practise sports, regardless of their financial or social status.
Hence, the forms in which sport is offered should be attractive enough to encourage as many people as possible to take up sport.

According to the Strategy for the Development of Sports in Poland until 2015, the objective of the Ministry of Sports and Tourism is to narrow the gap between Poland and other European countries in this field. The achievement of this goal will require a much greater level of funding.

Promotion of healthy lifestyle is one of the most important objectives and should be pursued with determination. Development of sports infrastructure will be very important in this context.

We intend to put much emphasis on the promotion of active lifestyle, including family sports competitions and weekends with sport and tourism.

Measures in this regard should be intensified as Poland and Ukraine have been chosen to host EURO 2012 and there is a need to promote this international event among the public. Government financial support is an important incentive for municipalities which consider the construction or modernization of sports facilities.

The programme "My sports field – ORLIK 2012" is an important component of the Government's strategy in the field of development and promotion of sport.

Great result for Polska over Argentina! But no so well over France :( Lets hope they do well at the Euro's next year it would be another shame to see them fail so miserably considering that they're hosting it!As it was already mentioned, Poland didn't play with their best 11 + and this unlucky own goal... but overall the game was quite good, and I think E2012 will be a really succesfull event for POL team.

Also is football hooliganism still a major problem in Poland? How are they going to make sure that it is the safest and securest way for next year's championships?It's not a problem (atleast a major one) for yeeeaaars now, it's just media really like to barking about this all the time, which make people think there is something going in this subject..

Just as a background to non-Polish speakers - permanent roof membrane has 22 elements to go, 50 in place. Retractable roof is 1/4 ready so far, 38 000 seats installed.
