according to these pictures there is no parking lots for cars. either they are somewhere on the other side of the stadium, closer to Wisla or there is only public transportation for use. what is the situation?

There is 2-level car park under the pitch.

Seem like a perfect stadium to host the Europa League Final

JeV
June 20th, 2011, 05:05 PM
There are 1765 parking places below the stadium.

Still public transport will be the main option to get there.

Mainly trams/buses on the S,E & W sides, train station and metro station (metro in 2013) on the North side (about 400-500 meters from stadium building).

First of all the stadium is in walking distance from the city center. In addition there are tram stops just near the stadium - it's very easy to get there by tram from the city center as well as from Praga district. Moreover there is a rail station very close to the stadium - in fact the station name is Warsaw Stadium.

Above that metro station 'stadium' is under construction - unfortunately it won't be ready for Euro but it wouldn't make a big difference.

As already written there is a parking under the stadium and I am glad that there is no gigantinc parking space around (it looks so much nicer - just compare the view from above with stadiums in US) - people should use public transportation or park the car in the center and then take a tram or walk.

I agree. Public transportation is the best option but car parking a must for those who are not comfortable with using public transportation like elders, handicap people or groups of children.
I also wouldn't overestimate that "walking distance to the city". It is a couple of kilometers. Can't imagine thousands of football fans walking from Warszawa Centralna to Stadium along two narrow sidewalks

i think that during EURO'12 Poniatowski Bridge [the one on the left side of the photo] will be closed for cars. only public transp = buses and trams + pedestrians so the side walk won't be so narrow :) i donno about taxi
but i agree it's quite a walk from Central Station :) though you get to see the city :)

It's certainly fine to do - I've done it myself. But it's definitely one of those "it didn't look this far on the map?" kind of walks.

Apparently the two level underground parking for 1765 cars will not be used for events due to security reasons. Correct me if I am wrong.

i may not remember it right but i think that it is an UFEA directive so also during previous Euro tournaments "build-in" parking lots where closed.

From every platform on Warszawa Centralna you have direct access to Warszawa Sródmiescie from which you have 5 minute train ride to Warszawa Stadion.

Most of the area surrounding the Narodowy stadium is desolate, vomit-inducing and makes Bangladesh look excitingly progressive in comparison.

What is desperately needed is a plan such as Wroclaw’s where the stadium facilitates the encompassing area with retail space, concealed coach and car parking as well as stunning views from the esplanade above of the outlying terrain - this will inject life into Wroclaw stadium’s surroundings.

A building or stadium can only come to life when there is life around it - not just in it.

Bartek Suchy

^^ Probably he meant this gaps in the roof structure like in Munich:

http://maciejskowronek.blox.pl/resource/Allianz_Arena2.jpg

In Warsaw this is only temporary until they connect all roof panels.

About exterior - I can see only one similar thing: very bright, colour intensive night ilumination.

But all of this makes Warsaw similar to Munich not even 5% in design.

Keep in mind, that Warsaw stadium is 15 minutes walk from the downtown...and Wrocław? Up to the moment when real plan of area surrounding Narodowy will be established it may work well anyway. Without facility around ,Wroclaw would have pretty huge problem.

Really a impressive stadium, i am following the development of it for quite a while now but it looks exactly like the initial designs.

For some reason it still give me the chills if the central positioned arch might come down, although that should not occur since they have thought about it, right :)

Looks awesome! Grats Poland.
However I'd prefer a more wavy design of the upper tier. I would also prefer a solid roof, but still the current roof is beautiful. I also like the "spike" solution, with the screens hanging over the field instead of somewhere on a stand. Relatively steep angles on the stands, looks like you will get a nice view of the field. Boxes concentrated mainly on the main stand, without ruining the overall balance of the stadium, nice. A nice layout of the vomitories and seating sections. But why the 3 big entrances on the main stand in the lower tier? Seems like a waste of seating area to me. The exterior of the stadium is nice, but nothing extraordinary and from the outside the stadium looks very tall.
But overall it's a very nice stadium, i like it.

To be honest I don't like stadiums which are "unique" from inside - like Aviva in Dublin for example with its small stand.

It´s not a bad thing! Copy the best design is better than create a new crappy one.

But it´s wrong to say it´s UNIQUE. It´s not. Only from the outise.

And Aviva is not unique either! It looks the same as the Emmirates. The "short" stand is there only because of the lack of space. Otherwise, it would look exactly the same as Emmirates.

Is there any sense in starting these discussions again? Don't you think it's a bit too much to say, that the stadium in Warsaw is "10 classes" above the one in Kiev? Why? Do you have any real facts or you just don't like the yellow and blue colours of the seats? What is the stadium in Kiev missing, to make up for that "10 classes" difference? And what does the Narodowy stadium has in plus, which makes it soooooo much better? Let me make myself clear: I rather prefer this stadium instead of the one in Kyev because the one in Kyev is 75 % old (and only 25 % new, the roof structure) and built in a communist style. I think Kyiv will look good when finished but obviously Kyiv is a renovation of an existing design so there is less flexibility to rework certain things, like removing the running track, changing the angle of the stands etc, the core skeleton is set in concrete, quite literrally. Those things can only be done with a new build, so obviously stadiums like Warsaw or Donetsk have some big advantages in that sense. I think everyone would have preferred an all new stadium in Kyiv and for the cost paid it would have been a better idea in retrospect, but well, if ifs and butts were candys and nuts then we'd all have a Merry Christmas.

In terms of the final, it was always the agreement that Kyiv should get it so they will get it, unless they don’t finish on time. I do think Warsaw is a better stadium to host it because it's a pure football stadium with a similarish capacity and more VIP boxes etc and Warsaw is a bit more centralised than Kyiv, but a deal is a deal so Kyiv get it and certainly everyone hopes they will put on a spectacular show and I'm sure they will.

I actually don't mind football stadiums with tracks... but only those that are still standing. No new stadium intended primarily for football should have a track. That era is surely past us. Warschau interior and roof structure design; bits & pieces, allegedly resembling ground pendants in Amsterdam and Frankfurt.

Who cares really? This is a proper venue, oozing football, void of dreaded carpool lanes serving as athletics tracks, alienating and isolating crowd from action. More than worthy of kicking off Euro 2012.

Exterior alert though; the Narodowy ground being wrapped in colorful sashes, representing national colors.

It is only initial, and I don't think that rendering shows us too much of how it's going to look. To me calling it plagiarism is like calling Gdansk plagiarism of Allianz and so on. It's similar, but we don't know to what extent. Unless one is really sure of a judgement made after seeing a 400pixel image.

Great pics, you can really see left to right how the roof colour changes to white with UV light, the first ones installed are already very white.

http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/3072/dsc02161fn.jpg

Do granicy dachu szklanego były jeszcze trzy szyby:

http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/3903/dsc02163e.jpg

they're silver, they chose to make them that because it is easier to keep cleaner than white. also from a distance you can't really tell much difference.

The pitch will be modular, like at Reliant Stadium in Houston or Estadio Ciudad de La Plata. Pitch will be assembly only before matches, casual pitch will be outside the stadium.

In a way it is a circus, but much larger one :). You're right, the looks are debatable, and the size of the whole venue is indeed imposing over the surrounding. The stadium, however, is just the beginning of the revitalization of the whole riverbank area. There is a plan to build extra sports/mixed use venues not far off. Also, it was just announced that starting next year there is a massive residential development called Port Praski to be built nearby

The official invitation from Stadion Narodowy :
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
National Stadium in Warsaw open to everyone!

On 24 July 2011, everybody is invited to a Sunday Walk around the National Stadium in Warsaw.
On this day the largest stadium in Poland will be opened for the first time to the inhabitants of Warsaw and all people wanting to see the interior of the Stadium.

During the walk, everyone will be able to enter the pitch through the passage and see the interior of the Stadium – the two rings of stands for 58 thousand spectators, the 70-metre central spire or the large-size LED screens. On this day, specially for the participants of the visit, the LED screens will be started for the first time and will display a premiere show.

There will be an unforgettable opportunity to see one of the most advanced structures in the world – the roof of the National Stadium in Warsaw, whose moveable part will be ready soon.

- From the beginning of the construction, the National Stadium in Warsaw arouses huge interest. We receive inquiries about the possibility of entering the Stadium every day. So we are much pleased that we can finally make our facility available to the public and we are looking forward to the visitors’ opinions – said Daria Kulińska, NCS Spokeswoman.

A real attraction will be the opening of one of the stands so that everyone could take a seat and test visibility from the stand. The pitch will feature an exhibition of historic photos of the 10th Anniversary Stadium and photos presenting the stages of construction of the National Stadium in Warsaw. All visitors are encouraged to take their cameras with them so that each participant of the visit could take a commemorative photo of the Stadium and immortalise the unique day.

One of the interesting items of the agenda will be the opportunity to meet and interview our most important partners and friends of the National Stadium in Warsaw, including representatives of the owner, city authorities, people directly responsible for construction, architects and event organisers.

There also will be attractions for children.

The Sunday walk will be held on 24 July 2011 from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm. Admission is free. Visitors are encouraged to arrive by public transport or come on foot.

On that day entrance to the construction site of the Stadium will be possible from W. Szczecińskie Street, at the pedestrian crossing by Poniatowski Bridge. And the exit will be located also from W. Szczecińskie Street, at the railway embankment.

Please read the rules of participation in the Sunday Walk at the National Stadium in Warsaw – which include important information, among other things, for parents and cyclists.

More information is available at: 22 517 94 06 from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm or at: biuro@ncs2012.pl

The organisation of this event will be supported by volunteers recruited by the Social Communication Centre at the Warsaw City Hall. Details are available at www.wolontariatmiejski2012.pl

The partner of the Sunday around the National Stadium in Warsaw is Radio Zet.

----

interesting article - Polonia Warszawa wants to play on Narodowy :

Wojciechowski eyes National Stadium for Polonia

Poland’s answer to Roman Abramovich, Jozef Wojciechowski, has very big ambitions for his club Polonia Warszawa.

If they come off Warsaw’s second club could even leap-frog their great rivals from Lazienkowska, Legia, by moving into the new soon to be completed National Stadium. The businessman let this fact slip in a recent interview with Futbolnet saying:

“There is a possibility we might play at the Stadion Narodowy. I see a great future for this club.”

At the present time it seems quite ridiculous that a club which can only draw average crowds of some 5,000 should even contemplate playing out of a stadium which will hold 11 times that number. However, a little bit of success can have a very positive effect on a football club and the Warsaw metropolitan area is quite capable of supporting two big outfits.

If the man they call “the biggest showman in Polish football” can pull it off, and he certainly has the money behind him – it will really put the cat among the pigeons. Poland’s “Big 3” of Wisla Krakow, Lech Poznan and Legia Warsaw could suddenly find another runner hot on their heels – which can’t be bad for Polish football.

The world of football has witnessed what a large cash injection by a generous prosperous owner can do to a club’s fortunes. Chelsea and Shakhtar Donetsk sprung up from nowhere to international glory thanks to the generosity of Abramovich and Rinat Akhmetov. They could soon be joined by Manchester City who have the Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mansour behind them.

Financially Wojciechowski is not quite in their league, but the zloty billionaire seems to be more astute with his money and has even been ‘accused’ of making a profit through the transfer market. We are so used to seeing money being literally thrown at players with absolutely no consideration as to whether the club can afford it to not, that it’s surprising to see a club’s balance sheet in the black. The current transfer window has resulted in Polonia making a profit of 25million zloty, including €5.3 million on the sale of international midfielder Adrian Mierzejewski to Turkish outfit Trabzanspor. Wojciechowski’s reasoning is pragmatic.

“I didn’t want to sell him, but they were very determined. And since they were prepared to pay that amount – he must be worth it.”

The property developer is more like football club owners used to be and more like UEFA would like to see them become again. That is before Abramovich turned the game on its head.

Warsaw usually gets heavy snowfall in the winter.

I could easily believe that the look of the stadium was designed with snow in mind which is unlikely to be the case. Nonetheless, just imagine the astonishing visual effect of the stadium in snow - the red panels creating an amazingly stark contrast with the purity of the whiteness around them.

Rectangles of red will appear so vibrant set against a whiter-than-white backdrop of snow covered trees and fields surrounding the stadium.

Will surely be a wonderful sight to behold so I hope we get snow galore this winter and some stunning photos to go with it!
