View Full Version : GDAŃSK - PGE Arena Gdańsk (43,615) - EURO 2012
michał_ July 26th, 2011, 02:49 AM should this thread be moved to the completed section then?
I would say keeping it here until August 12th would be fair - it's complete as for main construction works, but not all the infrastructure is in place yet.

Hansadyret August 1st, 2011, 08:49 AM It will be a challenge though. First season will probably be very good as there's huge enthusiasm around the stadium, but the magic won't last too long so they should be thinking of how to draw crowds later on.
Win many games:)
Beautiful stadium by the way. So many nice new stadiums for Euro 2012 i'm really looking forward to it. Just hope we manage to qualify:)

nordkap99 August 29th, 2011, 09:29 PM ANOTHER MATCH IS GOING TO BE PLAYED AT PGE ARENA GDANSK ON SEPTEMBER 6TH.
Germany has announced its 23-man squad for two upcoming matches, including a Sept 6 clash vs. Poland in Gdańsk.
Joachim Low today announced his 23-man squad for two upcoming matches -- first up is Austria as part of Euro 2012 qualification on Sept 2, followed by Poland four days later in Gdańsk.
The match was originally scheduled to take place in Warszawa's new National Stadium as the inaugural match but, due to delays, was moved to the PGE Arena in Gdańsk. The location is a somewhat ironic one, considering Gdańsk's complicated and storied history as both a city under German rule (then known as Danzig) and Polish rule. It has been a part of modern Poland since 1945 following post-WWII conferences in Yalta and Potsdam.
adonys August 30th, 2011, 09:21 AM This stadium is very nice. Perhaps the most beautiful stadium in Poland.

100% attendance record, but the organizers failed to give a pracise number. It is said that it was 'app. 40,000', which means it was less (a lot of free space in and around the German section + hundreds of free home seats).

I've been to Alvalade only once and it is a truely fantastic stadium. So I would say about Estadio da Luz. Why even putting this in doubt? These are among best European grounds and there is no need to put them into comparison with Gdansk's stadium. It's newer, but only arguably better in any way...

Fallout March 10th, 2012, 06:41 PM To be honest, building such a stadium for a team that just barely entered Ekstraklasa was IMO great risk. Lets hope it won't become best stadium in 1st league in a few years, cause then it can soon turn out to be unmaintanable.

Lets hope it won't become best stadium in 1st league in a few years, cause then it can soon turn out to be unmaintanable. You sure? Cause in my opinion 20k fans, while Lechia isn't playing great ATM, isn't that bad (actually Lechia have the biggest attendance in Polish Ekstraklasa). Now imagine Lechia playing really good, or in europa league, which is really possible, since polish league is really 'unpredictable'.
Fallout March 11th, 2012, 08:32 PM ^^Attendance may be great compared to club performance, but how it is compared to the cost of maintaining a stadium? And remember that for now, the stadium still has novelty aura that draws in the crowds. When it wears off and Lechia continues to play like now, it can fall to lets say 10-15k. Will the club be able to maintain this stadium then?

Lechia had attendance ~10k in 4th and 3rd league dude, when the team was playing against totally unknown teams from a very small villages. Novelty aura?:lol::lol::lol: Same like Legia, Wisła or Lech. And all these teams are higher in polish ekstraklasa atm, but Lechia have the best attendance. (more or less the same like Legia, and better than Wisła and Lech).

As far as I remember 16k attendence is enough to maintain the stadium. That was the calculation that Lechia Operator (together with SportFive) made some time ago.

Of course it's parking lot, nothing unusual, rather common sight in Poland(and not only). Parking places are made of concrete(or other material) grids and grass grows in empty spaces. It's much better than an asphalt desert.

Couldn't agree more. There is nothing more unsightly than a lovely American stadium ruined by a huge, expansive parking lot made of nothing more than tarmac. So, so ugly. It's not only stadiums but the also tram networks in Europe that have it right. Lovely stadium in lovely surroundings.

endrity May 3rd, 2012, 10:16 PM A bit dissapointed by the number of fans showing up. Maybe they should look at reducing the number of seats after the Euros, add more VIP suits, bigger screens. That way it won't look too empty.
Svercer May 4th, 2012, 10:30 AM Remember that Lechia was fighting to avoid relegation and imo average attendance (about 20k) was superb.

what was the point of putting that advertising up in the first place if they were just going to take it down a couple of months later? should've just wait for the euro's to be over before they put it up!
Svercer May 9th, 2012, 06:26 PM Couple of months is not that short period of time, considering few hours, which took putting off.

A couple of month of advertising space is worth a lot of money. Much more than it costs to take it down and put it up again.
Marbur66 May 9th, 2012, 11:52 PM Are they going to rename Donbass Arena for the tournament as well?
Laurence2011 May 10th, 2012, 09:24 AM But isn't that just named after the Donbass region?
Emeren May 10th, 2012, 09:35 AM But isn't that just named after the Donbass region?
Yes, it is.
About PGE Arena...PGE Arena is just sponsor's temporary name of Baltic Arena Gdansk. They are not owner of the stadium (same like Alianz Arena, Emirates Stadium, Mercedes-Benz Superdome etc.)

Ok, thanks. I thought Donbass was a corporate name, not the name of the region. Lesson learned.

josh81 May 21st, 2012, 03:02 AM Hi all. I'll be going to the 3 Ireland games in Poznan & Gdansk, really looking forward to it. I've a question about the PGE Arena though. My ticket (Cat 1) for the Spain game is listed as a restricted view. I wasn't aware that there're restricted views at this brand new stadium so I'm left wondering where are these restrictions? And if there are restrictions would they be major or severe? Having followed the stadiums construction, looked at loads photos of the stadium as well as the stadium plan I'm not sure. The only possible place where views might be restricted might be beside either of the two concrete columns that supports the control area. Any ideas?
Emeren May 21st, 2012, 08:23 AM As far I know there is no serious restrictions in view. No any columns ahead of you. Maybe some extra construction for press and UEFA officials...??
Update:
There are some spots between sectors.
Have a look on it http://lechia.pl/26243

At EURO 2008 I also had restricted view Tickets for the Austria games in Vienna. These Tickets were in the first three raws without any restrictions. :)

i also have a mate who got tickets with restricted views in germany in '06 and again in poznan. by restriction it could be anything as minor as having a camera man standing ahead of you so its probably best not to worry. its not like you will be stuck behind a massive concrete pillar or anything :)
josh81 May 22nd, 2012, 02:18 AM Thanks for the replies and for putting my mind at rest! Looking forward to it all now & can't wait to see Poznan & Gdansk.
rediwan May 25th, 2012, 10:02 PM josh81 propably you've got ticket to first 3 rows, barrier it's a little bit to high, so small part of field is visible through the fence, but it's ok so never mind and come to gdańsk happy ;)
