BobDaBuilder November 29th, 2007, 10:34 PM Nice, they should use a similar design for the new ground in Vilnius.
michał_ November 30th, 2007, 07:12 PM Masterpaul:
This is not a stadium of Lechii Gdansk, but Lechia Gdansk. I know you don't write polish too good, but it's a name you should know ;)
Architects: Rhode + Kellermann + Wawrowsky
cost: app. 800mln zl = 320mln $ = 210mln € (or so)
masterpaul December 4th, 2007, 05:58 PM And here is a really exciting and impressive pic from the construction area:

Belianis February 3rd, 2008, 09:11 PM Thats impressive!
timnet February 3rd, 2008, 09:45 PM the question is: will it be done until 2012?:D
wholagun February 3rd, 2008, 10:40 PM i wish they put the metal holding up the amber colour cladding on the inside of the area. A smooth exterior would be much better and look more like an Amber.
Axelferis February 4th, 2008, 02:02 AM Very good!
masterpaul February 7th, 2008, 05:52 PM http://bi.gazeta.pl/im/0/4905/z4905100X.jpg
wholagun February 7th, 2008, 08:17 PM If the area looked as smooth as this without the metal it'd be much nicer. Such a lazy design IMO. I cannot believe nobody objected to the Eiffel tower under the cladding.

:: The comunication and the sorrounding area plan has changed slightly
:: Construction status: Land is cleared for consturction
Neda Say May 23rd, 2008, 12:01 AM Nice! There's nothing more to say!
Alle May 23rd, 2008, 12:10 AM Nice and modern but kind of generic and dull.
JohanSA May 24th, 2008, 07:55 PM Allianz arena -> Soccer City -> Baltic Arena : Like this new stadium design direction.
Allthough I think that Soccer City and Baltic Arena is better looking than Allianz. Lets vote?

Like I said before the metal cladding support structure ruin it, they should have hidden it - with all the metal it looks Frakenstein-ish
El Vampiro Ucraniano May 26th, 2008, 12:31 AM So any news on when the construction is expected to commence?:)
PiotrG July 17th, 2008, 03:38 AM ^^
At present he lasts for leveling the land and geological works. Recently the first stage of the tender for earthworks ended, now analysis lasts for them. The end of the tender is planned for the December and then they will move earthworks at construction.
Recently tests of the model of the stadium were carried out in the wind tunnel, they came out well and perhaps reducing building costs will be possible.
Kuvvaci July 17th, 2008, 10:27 PM very nice :okay:

Probably also new visualisations of the stadium, more details will appear. It is necessary to wait:)

JYDA December 7th, 2008, 01:04 AM Will Polish league teams be able to fill these stadiums?
krzysiu_ December 7th, 2008, 01:45 PM This stadium is for local team Lechia Gdańsk, atm they're playing on old stadium with capacity ~10.000 and it's full almost every week (when Lechia play at home) with like 80% of season tickets. On Baltic Arena it should be like 20.000 of season tickets or more we'll see but I think there will be like 25.000-30.000 fans on every match, ofc it also depends on how Lechia is going to play but there're alot of fans which are gonna be there no matter if Lechia play good or not...
krzysiu_ December 10th, 2008, 02:43 AM And can start acknowledging Baltic Arena as U/C

CaliforniaJones April 11th, 2009, 04:39 AM This could be funny if Germany would play in Gdansk.
From 1793 to 1806, from 1815 to 1918 and from 1939 to 1945, Gdansk was a german city (Dantzig).
When the german anthem would be played, there would be an emotion to the public.
The building of the stadium is beginning.
Good luck for Gdansk.

Good luck for Gdansk. I dont think it would be a big deal. It is a Polish city populated by Polish people. The Germans only occupied it through their evil and backhanded tactics. All ancient history now.

There are always emotions when Poland is playing Germany, but there wouldn't any bigger or smaller emotion to the public whether they would play in Gdansk, Wroclaw or Warsaw.
German minority in Gdansk nowdays is very small, Polish-German international relations are very good and we are all in EU

Good tempo.
Axelferis July 12th, 2009, 01:34 PM What? works are just starting???
Euro 2012 will be in danger if organization isn't taken more seriously... :(
Virgileq July 12th, 2009, 01:40 PM Axelferis: No worries. As many people said here - everything is due to schedule. Here is no delays, no "in danger". It would be helpful to belive in this if you see monthly progress at construction site.

You do not know what you are talking about. The stadium is in a fast pace and there is no danger.
I would be more afraid of Lviv. He actually works stood.

We have 2009
Euro is in 2012
most of stadium will be completed in 2010/2011 (for example Wroclaw stadium, which is also in first phase of construction will be finished in the beginning of 2011)
I can insure you that there is no danger in Poland.
Axelferis July 12th, 2009, 05:21 PM ok but when is the "deadline" scheduled by UEFA?
I hope projects in Poland will rise normally because they are very good !

Yes there is. I can't tell exactly what date it is, but i can insure you that all stadium projects will be finished much much before this deadline.
And also this deadline is mostly for cities to test all before tournament. You know, to sign and seal all of issues before Euro2012 begin.
Cracovia July 12th, 2009, 07:38 PM the deadline is a year before the championships...June 2011

Horatio Caine July 17th, 2009, 12:55 PM They should call it Danzig Stadium
ufonut July 17th, 2009, 02:54 PM They should call it Danzig Stadium
Why ? Danzig is a 19th century German name for the city and there are no more Germans there so what would be the point ? Poland is no longer partitioned, Prussia is long dead. Why not 17th century Dutch version Dantzick ?
They could have used a Latin name for the city - Gedania but that also sounds pretty weird as nobody uses Latin anymore.
Gdansk is perfect, closest approximation of the original city name "urbs Gyddanyzc" from AD 997 - coming from Old Polish 'Gdania" - marsh, wetland.
Maybe it's a bit tough to pronounce but the name itself sounds pretty sharp :)
NMAISTER007 July 19th, 2009, 12:53 AM The progress of this stadium is just growing and growing, good job Gdansk ;)

kal323Ci October 27th, 2009, 02:23 PM I dont see screens as a necessity, but as a nice addition, and i guess they should be included when they're building a new stadium. Your doubt regarding if there will be screens based on renditions to me is rediculous. How one can draw any definitive conslusions based on what the stadion might look like besides a general outer and inner design is beyond me.

Are you serious???? Baltic Arena is an awesome name and should be the name of the stadium. Now some other Baltic country is going to take that name like Sweden or Norway because of its bid for Euro 2016 :(
Sponsor December 10th, 2009, 11:38 PM The stadium may have a problem to earn money for itself in the future so that's the reason.

It does sound bad. Lotos Arena would have been a better name in my opinion. But i guess it was a good decision regarding money. Lets hope the logo and motto wont be disappointing like the name chosen :(
And i just put Norway because they could have been sneaky or something
Marbur66 December 11th, 2009, 12:06 AM Are you serious???? Baltic Arena is an awesome name and should be the name of the stadium. Now some other Baltic country is going to take that name like Sweden or Norway because of its bid for Euro 2016 :(
I doubt Norway would name a stadium "Baltic Arena." That's like Poland naming a stadium "North Sea Park", or something....
Rampage December 12th, 2009, 09:00 AM IMHO, "Baltic Arena" will remain as a second, unofficial name for the stadium.
The name was/is just too good, to let it fade away.
So althought PGE logo looks quite good on the stadium itself, the name is not very catchy, and I think only official releases will use PGE Arena name.
I wish they (PGE) have chosen "PGE Baltic Arena" as the name.
Everybody could be satisfied.
Bogus Law December 12th, 2009, 09:43 AM ^^ yea, PGE Baltic Arena, I like it. Adding a commercial item to the name that has already become recognisable seems better than creating a completly new one. Shame they haven't come upon the same idea.
Sylver December 12th, 2009, 05:25 PM Ah yes PGE Baltic Arena would be a much better name than this plain original one :(
We will just have to wait until 2015 for another name change. Hopefully by then Gdansk will realize that Baltic Arena is the perfect name for this stadium.

www.sercan.de January 13th, 2010, 07:23 PM looks like 1st tier is a lil bit too steep.
whats the c value at the 2nd tier.
Sylver January 14th, 2010, 12:22 AM They are already putting up the tiers? Wow work is increasing fast :)
NMAISTER007 January 14th, 2010, 01:24 AM They are already putting up the tiers? Wow work is increasing fast :)
They started to put up the tiers like 1 month ago, or something.
looks like 1st tier is a lil bit too steep.
I wouldn't say that they are steep. If you look at some of the stadiums in Spain for instance, you will see that the tiers are amazingly steep (Even like on the Santiago Burnabeu and the Camp Nauo stadium the tiers are steep).
www.sercan.de January 14th, 2010, 01:33 PM 1st tier is 30° (Bernabeu is 24°)
2nd tier is 36°
its very steep
polskadan January 14th, 2010, 10:35 PM and why is the steepness a problem? It only means better views....Also allows the 2nd tier to be closer to the pitch.
Sponsor January 15th, 2010, 01:00 AM 1st tier is 30° (Bernabeu is 24°)
2nd tier is 36°

Where did you get this info?
Gurrajas January 15th, 2010, 02:12 AM ^^ Sercan do you know the steepness of Mestalla? Now that is steep. I find atmosphere better in the steep stadiums, so you can only imagine what the green and white fans will do inside here!
www.sercan.de January 15th, 2010, 12:15 PM Steepness is not always good. :)
You just need a stadiums with a c value of at least C60 (EURO 2016 C90).
Kayseri's stadium has got 1st tier ~30° and 2nd tier ~35° and they have massive problem with the view.
At mestalla the 1st tier is not so steep ;)
Actually most stadiums do not have a steep stand, because otherwise the sightlines at the 2nd tier are bad.

Measured at skecthup.
BTW do have a good C value its also good to have a longer distance between stands and pitch.
So IF there is a problem (whcih i actually don't think, because as far as i know a german company controlled all EURO 2012 stadiums) they yould made the 1st tier maybe 24°.
