And I never understood why is it always that the Army is the priority no 1 for every government? For fuck's sake, when there are children that have to walk miles by foot to get to school or some hospitals are in shortage of needles..why is that not a priority?? There are more chances to die in a hospital or standing in line in a pharmacy than by foreign invasion. It just makes me sick.... P.S. And those SRI guys should be ashamed showing their faces....the way they let Hayssam escape right in front of their nose..pathetic...good that they have nice cars though..to keep their esteem high I beg to differ, Corneliu. First, there's no point in comparing Bucharest's military parades with Paris's. It's like comparing Russia with Romania. Second, I think it's a good thing to have military parades on National Day...and their purpose is not to display military force, but to remind the nation the sacrifices of the Romanian army in history and, most importantly, to remind of December 1st 1918, the day when Romania reached its natural borders, encompassing all Romanians. More, it is also a tradition which recognizes France's contribution to Romania's history and I think it is good Romania does that. I hate this easy talk about military parades and their dillution into some kind of show just for the sake of show. It's not that by ALL means. It is at least what I mentioned above. The army in Romania is not the number 1 priority at all! The military's budget is about 2% of GDP, while the education's and healthcare's budgets are about 6% of GDP. And there are other budgets which are larger than the army's budget. Contrarilly, the army's budget is among the smallest among budgets, and Romania's even breaking its NATO obligations by doing that. The deficiencies of the healthcare are due to the poor management of hospitals and of the system as a whole, and not to the budget. Romania's healthcare budget is as big as Austria's, but its quality is a lot lower due to the poor management of the system. Trust me, I have had some links with the healthcare system and it needs a lot of reshuffling...so, by all means, it's not about money, but about management, and the current minister is not doing a great job IMO. How comes Iceland has no men in uniforms apart from some officers and still member of NATO and we made a pledge to spend billions on military equipment from European companies.. Corneliu, if you are saying that the military is not important in any country, you are definitely wrong. Don't give the EXCEPTION of Iceland, but look at the other 99% of countries which do spend money on the military, more or less. I believe this planet is not an idillic world, but a very pragmatic world where force matters and the weak will never draw compassion for the mighty.
