Bryne - Norway
Forum Jæren was announced in 2003, a high-rise proposal with 14 floors. The proposal was later redesigned and finally approved on April 25th 2006. The high-rise building will be 64m tall with 18 stories and construction started in 2007 with completion in early 2009. The two architect firms Asplan Viak AS and Bork Arkitektkontor AS is behind the project, and the developer is Selmer Skanska AS.
The tower will become Bryne's first high-rise building and contains 8 500 sqm of alimentary area and residentials and the rest of the tower is planned to contain a library and a Garborg senter.

Ingenioren May 28th, 2008, 08:23 PM Kind of fascinating to find a tower like this in such a small town.... It will be the tallest building in Rogaland county.
Here's a webcam of the construction:

Alle May 28th, 2008, 09:33 PM Greenish; interesting, natural, fresh.
I think that some towns are more prone to dare to try a new style, especially smaller ones that dont neccessarely have much of an emphasis on heritage structures.
Boblius May 29th, 2008, 10:48 PM there are buildings in Stavanger that are taller.
The rica hotel with 21 stories and the Rosenli blocks of flats with theyr 18 and 19 stories.
Ingenioren May 30th, 2008, 10:32 AM You're right. It will be 4 meters taller than the hotell, if you don't count the antenna... But if you count it, it will be a bit lower =)
Nightsky May 30th, 2008, 02:44 PM The town has only 8600 inhabitants according to Wikipedia (15048 in the community).
Amazing with such a tall building in such a small town (not even US towns of that sizes have highrises always) with a nice green design!
Alle May 30th, 2008, 04:39 PM Yes, it will be a good solution from an ecological standpoint as well. A lot of facilities in one well designed place.
Mulefisk May 31st, 2008, 07:34 PM Thats quite nice. Looks very 60's.
Boscorelli June 2nd, 2008, 10:58 AM I quite like it! In fact it's very nice! And it will be interesting to see how it will look when finished!
Ingenioren August 25th, 2008, 08:25 PM It is now at 7 floors and 5 floors of paneling is well on the way=)

IceCheese October 2nd, 2008, 02:06 AM You even reached Bryne on your biketrip?! Oh well:) I use this as a common WOW for all your updates today. Great job!
Ingenioren October 2nd, 2008, 10:18 AM Yeah, i wish! =) Luckily for us, this project actually updates its webpage once in a while!
Feltherre October 2nd, 2008, 09:13 PM Because i live just ca 5km from Forum jæren i often go to see the highrise myself, its very nice when you see it in real life. Cant wait until its finished.
Ingenioren October 3rd, 2008, 08:21 AM Please take some pictures next time you pass by... =D
AtlanticaC5 October 4th, 2008, 03:18 PM Cool to see such a building in a small town. Looks really good if you ask me :)
siddis October 15th, 2008, 01:54 PM I went to Bryne yesterday, and I think it is going to be a great building once it is finished. Building high rise really makes sense in a place like Jæren because space is very limited.
marshol October 15th, 2008, 11:48 PM ^^ Take some pictures next time ;)
Ingenioren October 17th, 2008, 10:31 AM Update from Jærbladet:
http://www.jbl.no/stream_file.asp?iEntityId=29634
And the building is completely filled with tenants=)
They are one month ahead of schedule, they are now at 40-45 meters and 12 floors.
It will be topped out at 18 floors before easter 2009.

Artist Kjell Nupen is working on a 4-5 meters wide glass-artpiece from top to bottom, with a nice interior lighting at the eastern facade:

marshol October 17th, 2008, 03:08 PM ^^ In the article http://www.jbl.no/modules/module_123...04&D=2&mid=167 it says it will be the third tallest building in Norway after Plaza and Postgiro! Haven't they heard about SAS Scandinavia hotel, Rådhuset and Økernsentet in Oslo, and Rica Forum hotel in Stavanger (not far from Bryne). I think it will be number 7.
Ingenioren October 17th, 2008, 03:56 PM Yeah i noticed... =) And Nexans tower, Halden is nr 3... =P What they could write was that it would be Rogalands tallest, not including Forums antenna... ;P

It has 13 meters left to rise before being topped out in February.
moveteam December 19th, 2008, 03:24 PM WAUW for such a small town it's pretty high and no matter what it got a very modern and cool design.

Ingenioren May 4th, 2009, 03:44 PM Stavanger aftenblad poll says 43 % likes Forum Jæren, 57 % Don't like it:
FOR HØGHUSET
1. Signature for that town Bryne. Bryne which marks the midpoint of Jæren.
2. Showing Jæren creative power.
3. Landmark as you can see from all sides.
4. Save top soil. Good for Jordvern.
5. Vitalizes an old industrial area.
6. Creates jobs for Jæren. Nutrition and learning go hand in hand with the new library, Garborgsenter and new secondary school in the area
7. Artist Kjell Nupen jewelry out to be built.
8. Good views from the top.
9. Reference that it is possible to orient themselves after.
10. Located near the railroad tracks, making it easier to transport or taxi to and from work.
AGAINST HØGHUSET
1. The architecture is not innovative.
2. It was not organized a separate arkitektkonkurranse.
3. Switch with the flat landscape.
4. Violates the common building style in Jæren.
5. Few items that relate to the built Bryne and Jæren.
6. Pop up wherever you go.
7. Shade parts of the environment. Taking the sun from the neighboring building and when you are waiting for the train.
8. Not loud ENOUGH. Greater height would build leaner and more sculpture-like.
9. For strong compression in the area around. The area is too narrow.
10. Too high. Appear as a wart on the landscape.

http://www.aftenbladet.no/lokalt/jaeren/1023449/Signalbygg_eller_vorte_i_landskapet_.html
"8. Not loud ENOUGH. Greater height would build leaner and more sculpture-like." -> Can agree with this one easily =)
Ingenioren May 5th, 2009, 11:59 AM Nationen poll says 63 % wants more highrises to save farmland, 32 % says no.
http://www.nationen.no/landbruk/article4306665.ece
Mayor of Time commune is happy with the result of the project, but says Bryne will not get more highrises, he does however want more 6-7 floor buildings built dense around the sentrum area.

Red-Lion May 6th, 2009, 02:00 AM I love this building, you can see it from many parts of Jæren, too bad it's not double height though :P You can spot this building from almost 5 kilometers away in all directions and in some directions probably close to/over 10km :) Sweet!
I must add:
My grand parrents don't like this building :D Old and grumpy, just like they are meant to be!
kjetilab May 6th, 2009, 01:40 PM I'm really impressed by the positive attitude shown towards this building from the locals in general. I don't know what it is about these Rogalendings, but we sure could need some more of that around Oslo.
Þróndeimr November 4th, 2009, 12:42 AM Video from Aftenposten: Høyhuset på Jæren klar til innflytting (link to article with video) (http://www.aftenbladet.no/lokalt/article1106144.ece)
