This high-rise is very close to getting built by now. Looks like The Rezidor Hotel Group wants to occupy the building with 192 hotel-rooms.

Trønder Avisa: Vil Bygge Hotel til 260 millioner (http://www.t-a.no/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080627/NYHETER/756168148)

But they only have some 25 million kroner, so they need to find 235 million kroner somewhere.

Norway is rich, so that should be no problem;) Anyway.. let's wish them the best of luck and hold our fingers crossed. Would be nice if it got built.

Latest news here is that they have done a redesign and there has been more economical issues. But they are convinced that construction will start in spring 2010, completion in the end of 2012.

Cultural center around the tower is looking okay, but they have done a terrible mistake with the tower, and that wing on top, looks hideous...

What? It's like they figured it wasn't boxy enough by Norwegian standards... What a drawback:ohno:

The first design was several times more elegant. And therefore to nice to be built. We can only have one highrise building with interresting design. And that one is in Molde.

Wonderful Seilet, when i past by Molde a few years ago i was amazed by it, Dubai in the middle of what i considered a hicktown in Norway!

But honour to Levanger for being such a small town (11 000 inhabitants) with 2 proposals, that's pretty cool!

:ohno: That does not work for me at all. Was the redesign done for economical reasons? In case: how short sighted! This may or may not go through as is, but when a building is that bland and boring (making the crown just look out of place) it will saw the seeds of NIMBYism. If not on this building, then on the next...

^^ so true, this building might become quite the disaster in the future, esp. when its the first highrise in any of the Innherred towns/cities (Stjørdal/Levanger/Verdal/Steinkjer).

The project is been financed by some small local businessmen who just want to build a big house for their town. There is no real hotel-chain requesting a bigger place there since there isn't any need, nor do they have the suport from the local authorities, not even with the cultural center.

So its a big project to people that want something big, but can't really affort it, so they try to cut down the prices as much as they can but still keeping it big.

So, what is the status of this project? ...and the silo conversion?

What? It's like they figured it wasn't boxy enough by Norwegian standards... What a drawback:ohno:Yes, the first design was so much better.

But honour to Levanger for being such a small town (11 000 inhabitants) with 2 proposals, that's pretty cool!I like Levanger. It is the only one of the Nord-Trøndelag towns which wasn't either leveled in 1940 (Steinkjer and Namsos), or first came to be an urban centre after the war (Stjørdalshalsen and Verdalsøra). It also has a very nice location along a canal that links the fjord with what I suppose could be called a salt water lake. I think a couple highrises out in the industrial part of town would only add to the whole.

^^ yes Levanger has the potential to become a very nice town in Nord Trøndelag. Its a shame they are moving all the shops to Magneten which is expanding now again (expanded a lot just a few years ago). It empties the downtown of Levanger.

This project is still doing good and is very active. A redesign was made not long ago as you can see in this thread. Not sure if the design is final though (hopefully not...) since it sais "Bildet er kun et foreløpig illustrasjonsbilde og forslagsstiller tar forbehold om mulige endringer" under all the renderings which was published in a PDF less than a month ago.

About that Silo: Norcem owns that silo. They have been planning to move to Verdal Havn ever since that proposal of reconstructing the silo into apartments was made. Latest news from October 2009 confirms that Norcem will move. Currently they are deciding on three plots to place the new silo in Verdal. When its finally clear when the silo will be ready for other usage i guess we will see more about it.

Delayed again.

Levanger Fjordhotell Eiendom AS ikke har utarbeidet en såkalt ROS-analyse (risiko- og sårbarhetsanalyse i forhold til flom, ras og utglidninger).
