I was at Örestad today but didn't see any signs of this.
I saw some cranes at the media center but no indication on any highrise project.
Anway, it sounds awesome and it will probably be the first Crowne Plaza hotel in Scandinavia.

Originally the overall plan for the Copenhagen Towers/WTC Copenhagen was a project covering both a northern site and a southern site. Those two sites can be seen below (no.49):

http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/4994/56177351bz7.png

The old WTC project by Kim Utzon also operated with a project covering both sites:

http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/1043/utzonplanzm2.png

(BTW: Thank God it didn't end up with Kim Utzon's proposal - I found this rare rendering below - really uninspiring):

http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/1927/utzongammelnt3.jpg

However, the new project currently UC "only" operates with buildings on the northern site:

http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/4843/lokationdr9.png

Does anyone in here know why the project seems to have been scaled down (actually considerably)? What will eventually happen to the southern site? Or does the current project include eventual plans on a way out in the future expansion possibility?

I have no new knowledge to add to your observation so instead I'll just add my judgement: The status paper from Arealudviklingsselskabet indicates that Sjælsø still owns both parcels of land, which means that they are under obligation to build something on the other parcel eventually. However, these obligations seem to have timespans of up to 5 years and I guess are also flexible relative to a "percentage of the bought area having been developed" so that their obligations for the first two years will be covered by phase 1.

If you read the text from the status paper regarding the area it says the following:

It further states that Sjælsø has purchased building rights for a total of 129.000 sqm.

Since they are currently using the area south of Hannemans Allé for building site administration (lots of containers stacked on top of each other) and parking site for the workers I guess it will take some time before they will start building on the other site.

I know that what you're after is probably the architectural plans for the other parts of the site. However, I think that Sjælsøgruppen as a developer are smart enough to know that it would be foolish to settle for a particular concept for the remainder of the project at this stage already given the size of the area and the extent of the competition from the surrounding areas it is only natural if they want to maintain maximum flexibility regarding the concepts for stages 2 and 3 in order to adapt to changes in demand and so on.

Good points, knilaus. I agree.

After planning this a long time, I've finally managed to complete my first drawing for the Copenhagen diagram at Skyscraperpage.com.

I've done the Crowne Plaza tower, well aware of the fact that it might have to be changed when we can see how the real facade turns out...

See it here (http://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?cityID=652)

Btw, I've also done Gemini Residence and I'm close to completing Fyrtårnet.

I think the North Tower (Forster+Partners) will be next up...

I'm not familiar with the schedule of this project; do they plan to build the hotel tower first and then afterwards proceed with the office tower and the surrounding buildings?

Nah, the chronology should be to start up the office tower before the hotel tower has been finished - probably come late summer/fall this year IMO. The office tower is supposed to be finished in the second quarter of 2010 - so they must soon get started.

Fab 5
July 13th, 2008, 06:22 PM
The design seems to have been changed a bit:

First design:

http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/1833/copenhagentowers3ez1.jpg

Latest design:

http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/1580/24407227tl4.jpg

I like the fact that the little box in front of the towers has been re-designed. It doesn't seem so intrusive anymore. But the hotel seems to have become a bit more simplistic?
The Foster tower is also leaning differently now.

ØlandDK
July 13th, 2008, 06:25 PM
Yes it seems like the newest design of the hotel is a bit more simple but it's still hard to say from that rendering. Guess I have to wait til the tower is finished before I can judge if I like it or not.:)

This is really great for Copenhagen. The buildings are such a good-looker for it's height. I don't think we got two buildings over 80m+ right next to each other here in Sweden. That's really what I want to see here. I don't like highrises that is far away from them selves, it doesn't look good. Turning Torso could need a mate next to him.
Anyway... love this project, can't wait for the buildings to get completed.

In the renderings the tower looks awesome, but I do fear it will be less curved and less expensive..

I guess that's a matter of taste. I think it looks okay but by no menas more than that. From large international architecture firms I want more. And in the whole Copenhagen Towers contect I think totality makes a rather bad impression. It all seems chunky and poorly integrated to me. Exactly what Ørestad doesn't need. But again...totally subjective and hopefully I'm all wrong. Anyway it will be great with some progress.
