Yeah, the quality of architecture is going ahead with each new highrise in Vilnius. The first ones were good, latest ones - excellent!

It is wood. And the gray stuff on sides is polished stainless steel plates. They're polished in different directions, so put together should make a really interesting look.

Don't like it's shape, and it should be more far away from the river, but it is a good quality addition to NCC.

^^ It is not allowed to build taller buildings than Europa tower (129 m) in this area so probably there we'll not see anything very tall. As for 100m+, currently this beast is U/C behind Hansabank building: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=588061 It'll be exactly 100m.

Nice twins. My favorite parts in this project are those downwarding roofs.
They say that economy's growth in Baltic Countries have seized at least for a while (one reason according to IMF could be inflation which has been risen) and the swedish banks are the biggest loaners in the Baltic Countries according (again) to IMF. They say that situation is not terrible bad now but it could be go worse. Hopefully they don't have to sell their brand-new office.
Are there going to be more development in Lithuania which not cares about this temporary economical situation?

^^ The growth is slowing down but it's still growth. This year GDP growth of Lithuania should be ~6-6.5% which is very much in comparison to any old EU member. Maybe we'll slow down more next year. So far economic situation influences residential constructions more than commercial. SEB which is bigger than Hansabank in Lithuania is also planning to build their new central office. There are many more big projects U/C in Vilnius at the moment.

We have more machines. Probably the biggest thing is that people operating the machines are more skilled -- you couldn't go out and find people with experience running 3D printing machines, they just don't exist. So we've got a team now working on the factory floor that's got a lot of experience. We now run the factory 24 hours a day, we have three shifts of people who are constantly rotating to take care of these machines. You can see some of that in the video that we're showing, actually, it's fun to watch that. We're going to be releasing this with some additional copy and stuff as a video online, so that'll be out in a few weeks, and give some insight into the actual process as it happens on the floor.Place an order for power leveling on www.inwowgold.com is the best and securest way to power level your character to your desired high level fast. February 8th, 2009, 06:53 PM
So far that indeed looks like the most promising high-rise project in Vilnius. A bit bulky due to lack of height, but the overall end result should make a substantial improvement on the evolving CBD of Vilnius.
Looking at some (http://foto.terpe.lt/inkelti/20090126/Panoramic.jpg) aerial photos there appears to be soooo much empty space for expansion. Despite nice view on the skyline (dere I say #1 skyline in the Baltics and the whole of Nordic&Baltic region), it still doesn't quite feel like a proper part of the city, not to mention the proper city center as opposed to what they have in Tallinn i.e. a fully integrated modern CBD rising within the older blocks of the city.
Dompcz
February 8th, 2009, 07:29 PM
^^ It's true. On the other hand Vilnius has a chance which other cities does not have, to develop big modern district right next to old city center. Just weird that there are so many height limitations for this area.

The project has got a couple of months left to completion
I start to really love this building. Not just architecture but (especially) the urban integration. Another thing is the commitment by Swedbank to make it open for general public (cafe, reading room and other parts of the building). Seems it was the first rather successful attempt to implement a public-friendly project of this scale in Vilnius.

What about changing the thread title? There is no such thing as 'Hansabank' anymore. All former 'Hansabank' entities are now called 'Swedbank' hence it should be 'Swedbank Central Office'. No?

I have spent few hours in the new district of Vilnius on 11th of July and i was pretty surprised with the development. Seemed to me like a real European-model district. Despite it was Saturday, works on "Swedbank" office project were performed. They use diamond-shaped sheet steel as an external material for facade, quite interesting.
New district of Vilnius :

Thanks for the pictures, andrejt. I agree it looks quite impressive over there but still lots of things have to be done for the area to be called a model of modern European district. Hopefully in 10-15 years from now that will be the case.
And yes, those massive black panels are of the National Art Gallery. A sort of permanent contemporary art which is made into a functional building. Some do not appreciate them but I find them very cool and certainly not out of place surrounded by modern buildings..

From miestai.net:

juoda-balta-pilka-stiklas-medis
medžio apdaila man labai patiko (laiptai ir kai kur grindys) - šiltas pilkšvai rudas atspalvis, atrodo turėtų labai kontrastuoti su kitom medžiagom, bet iš tikrųjų visuma labai gerai atrodo.

Simplistic but light and cool. Use of wood also adds up to the character... I guess wood could become one of the main features of the new modern Lithuanian architecture. After all it's a country with a very significant land area occupied by forests which is also rooted in the culture and early religion (paganism).

The podium is awesome, the architecture is awesome, the engineering is awesome, the detailing is awesome (just for example compare the air vents on this buildings (location) and the other highrises...) and what from i can tell, the build quality is awesome.

I should say that it is VERY VERY COOL building and I think we (lithuanians) should thank to the architect for such great idea and design and to facade structures contractor for that they have implemented this idea and design so precisely and didn't turned to the cheaper materials way as it is sometimes usual in Lithuania :)
The architect:
Audrius Ambrasas www.ambrasas.lt
There you can find some more his nice projects not only in Lithuania.
And the facades structures contractor:
JSC Hrono Fasadai www.facadestructures.com you can find a lot of more their implemented highrise project in Lithuania (and not only). Great company!
And of course to all other comapnies which I don't know and which have worked on this project.
Well done..!!!

A very provocative and bold statement :D
...yet I probably agree with it. Especially if taking into account not just the visual impact of the building but also how it blends into the environment and what role it plays in the surroundings. It's a great example of how a commercial building can serve the public too. The fact that they built that huge terrace open to the public is admirable. I didn't have a chance to experience this myself but it will be the first thing I'll do when next time in Vilnius.
