PLH arkitekter as Wins 2005 BE Award; SBA Office Building Named Top Project in ''Building: BIM for Simulation and Visualization, Single Subject'' Category

PLH arkitekter as, a leading architectural practice based in Denmark, has won a 2005 BE Award for the SBA Group office building in Vilnius, Lithuania. The award category was "Building: BIM for Simulation and Visualization, Single Subject."

The BE Awards of Excellence, which are selected by an independent jury of industry experts and presented at an evening ceremony during the annual BE Conference, honor the extraordinary work of Bentley users improving the world's infrastructure. These projects set benchmarks for their industries, and showcase the imagination and technical mastery of the organizations that created them.

The SBA Group held a competition to design a new office building that not only reflects the company's dynamism, but also its stability. PLH arkitekter's winning design achieved both goals, creating a building that presents a new and visionary structure from a set of tried and tested construction techniques.

The firm conceived and designed the new building using Bentley's building information modeling (BIM) solutions, including Bentley Architecture, and achieved exceptional results. As Brian Sheldon, an architect with PLH, explained, "The drawings generated from our Bentley Architecture 3D model gave a level of sophistication, detail, and accuracy that is seldom seen in traditional 2D drawings." Moreover, 3D modeling enabled the design to be completed in half the time.

One reason for PLH's selection of Bentley solutions was the flexibility they afforded the architects to sketch the unique forms envisioned for this building. In particular, they helped them design the main bearing structure, which consists of eight intertwined steel helixes standing as a unified tower around a central atrium.

The design expresses SBA's dynamism in the open twisting atrium structure that supports the entire building. The staggered upper floors are hung from a large helical structure that twists up from the lower parking floor to the roof terrace, providing increased floor areas higher in the building.

A large four-story lobby, with a restaurant balcony and floating meeting rooms, greets visitors to the building. Visitors arrive under the restaurant balcony, a two-story space with a vast four-story view opening towards the city. Spiral ramps within the helical structure lead visitors to the upper and lower levels, and elevators bring them to the upper office floors and conference facilities at the top of the building.

As mentioned in other threads, the design was changed and it'll not have that impressive spiral. Sad but at the same time it's good that after few years of silence now this project is U/C at full speed. Also the official project name is "Green Hall". Don't have any renderings, lets hope that it'll still look good.

Re&Solution starts leasing offices in GREEN HALL, one of the most modern and eco-friendliest business centers in the Baltic States

2008-04-07

Finance and real estate (RE) consultancy company Re&Solution has been granted the exclusive right to lease offices and announces the beginning of lease of the premises satisfying all class A standards.

One of the most modern and eco-friendliest business centers in the Baltic States will be completed next year in Vilnius, close to the Konstitucijos Avenue and Gediminas Avenue, by a picturesque bend of the river Neris. The most recent GREEN HALL project valued at over 100 million Litas was developed by one of the largest and most successful Danish architect companies PLH arkitekter, in cooperation with UAB Vilniaus Archprojektas.

This is a twelve-floor class A business center, which will be different from other office buildings in the Baltics by its innovative architecture, exceptional comfort for company employees and customers, as well as nature-preserving qualities.

The new nature-inspired ellipse-shaped office building to be built in the capital city will have double-glazed glass façades with solar effect, and automatic blinds will be mounted between them. The architectural novelty will allow using solar energy for heating and lighting of the premises, and during the warm season large windows of the inner façade and automatic blinds will be operating as a natural premise ventilation, cooling and light regulation system. Autonomous heating, ventilation and cooling systems will be set on each floor for energy saving purposes.

Mr. Martynas Ivinskas, Project Manager for Re&Solution, was also pleased to say that Re&Solution has won the project: ‘Lasting leadership experience and knowledge in the field of office rental business will enable our forthcoming tenants to have exceptional working conditions. Our experience shows that many future customers have set the goal of better environment protection, thus it is nice to know that GREEN HALL is the first example of energy saving in the sector of commercial buildings that should be followed by other market players.’

The new class A office building will offer contemporarily planned offices of different sizes with high quality finish, four high-speed elevators, a server room on each floor, high throughput computer networks, and the highest level engineering equipment. It is also expected to have spacious underground and overground parking satisfying all class A office standards, storage and archive premises, green outdoor business park close to the river Neris, and wireless internet areas.

GREEN HALL building will be conveniently located and will have easy access, avoiding traffic jams by both, private and public transport. Windows of the class A offices will be overlooking the river Neris, the Gediminas Castle, the Parliament House, ‘Vilniaus vartai’, Gedimino Avenue and Konstitucijos Avenue, Žvėrynas.

One of the most modern and eco-friendliest business centers in the Baltic States is expected to open its door in Q2 2009.

Re&Solution is an international finance and real estate consultancy company operating in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Ukraine and Denmark. Since September 2007, Re&Solution is in alliance with Jones Lang LaSalle in the Baltics. For more information on the company please go to www.resolution.lt .

Those dorms are quite ugly, no arguing here. But you must see the place yourself, to get the impression. They are barely visible, as there're several landmarks around (Vilnius Gate, NCC, The Green Hanner) that get all of your attention. Plus in summer the greenery covers them quite well.

Hey, Jmarius. Nice to know that you are going to visit my country. Unfortunately, in November we have very unpleasant winter here in Lithuania. So, you won't be able to see a lot of charm of Lithuania. My recommendations - better don't go to Lithuania at winter time, come at summer time. And you will see a very different country :)

Do you need some specific recommendations? :D

500 local IT workers employed by the end of 2010, internship places for Vilnius University and Kaunas Technology university students and at least 10 graduates employed every year, signed cooperation agreements with a number of IT companies, as well as with government and universities, to be involved in developement of project of Vilnius as an important European IT center (a.k.a. "Sunrise valley" i presume)

I'd say a pretty sweet deal, however lot the government encouraged them financially, to come to Vilnius.
Prior to establishement of Vilnius branch, there were only three other such branches in the world - India, Singapore and UK.

Some new article in the one of most popular Lithuanian newspapers (in Lithuanian language):

In general about article:
First real “green” high-rise building in Lithuania. Everybody are very happy – tenants, owner, managers.. :) Building meets BREEAM norms which are used in the most EU countries and can easily get “green building” certificate, but the problem is that in Lithuania government still doesn’t support such buildings/construction.

Anyway, I’m happy that we have such first building and other will try to do even better in Lithuania! :) And maybe goverment will change their mind regarding green building concept.
