Þróndeimr December 4th, 2007, 12:15 PM Höfðatorg Tower
Reykjavik - Iceland
Höfðatorg Tower is under construction and is to become the tallest highrise building on Iceland uppon completion in
2010. Offices will occupy most of the building space, exept a shopping mall in the 1st floor. The tower have 19 floors,
with 2 basement floors and one smaller mechanical/elevator floor on top of the tower.
Höfðatorg is designed by PK Arkitektar (http://www.pk.is/) and is a larger complex development with 6 buildings where three will be
residentials and 3 with offices. A shopping center will cover the 1st floor of all buildings. Two of the residentials towers
will be highrise-buildings, tallest on 16 floors and a 12 story highrise. Höfðatorg Tower (officially named H1) togather
with H2 (9fl tall) was started construction in 2008. H3 (9fl tall), S1 (12fl tall) and S1 (16fl tall) is supose to start
construction in 2009. The first one, 6 floor tall B1 was completed earlier in 2008.
The name Höfðatorg is taken from the house Höfði, a historical building close to Höfðatorg.

Siberian December 4th, 2007, 12:34 PM Nice to see new highrise for Reykjavik, but why it's so grey?? I hope this is only poor rendering?
kjetilab December 4th, 2007, 11:14 PM They like concrete on Iceland:)
Þróndeimr November 14th, 2008, 11:18 PM Here is a construction update from September this year. Was starting to get curious about this project following the financial crisis, but can't find any news about it.

sapmi November 14th, 2008, 11:22 PM Thanks for the update! Yes, maybe this project had a little bad timing. ;)
Þróndeimr November 14th, 2008, 11:26 PM After studying some blueprints i found out this tower is not 70m tall but exactly 7 402cm tall from ground, or 8 445cm from basement floor to the roof of the tower. Here is some links to two blueprints showing the main heights floor to floor.

Ingenioren April 1st, 2009, 03:09 PM Updates: It may not get filled with tennants, but it still looks great ;D

SimsPlanet2 April 1st, 2009, 03:21 PM Is this real or a 1 april joke?
IceCheese April 1st, 2009, 03:25 PM If it's an April's fool, Ingenioren should have serious cred for his editing skills... Though I neither can imagine which Icelandic company that could back this construction up until now. Someone is sitting on some money they're hiding from the rest of the world?
Ingenioren April 1st, 2009, 04:33 PM Well, it's not a joke atleast, but there is some progress being made for both the Concert hall, Hallgrimskirka and Skuggahverfi. So they are still building.... :D

Inconfidente April 1st, 2009, 06:13 PM Hmm... I prefer Reykjavik without it. :(
virgule82 April 2nd, 2009, 12:16 AM Agree with inconfidente, it really does look out of place. Highrises need to fit into a context and this one really doesn't even if the building by itself looks good.
Þróndeimr April 2nd, 2009, 12:22 AM ^^ Reykjavik's city layout and buildings is incredibly messy from before, whatever highrise design and location they choose it will look out of place. Its hard to do anything there looking good. Maybe they should do some masterplanning, but they have an issue when the city is pretty small, not too fast growing, and in these times with the economy going down the drain!
Ingenioren April 2nd, 2009, 10:56 AM I think it matches Reykjavik, they have a very weird way of building a city, a mix of American sprawl with huge highways with no cars on them and large malls, and tiny waved-iron houses, modern appartmentsblocks with large gardens. Is pretty much Reykjavik (And other Icelandic towns)... :D I wouldn't want it any other way!
Schweden April 2nd, 2009, 09:46 PM I love the highrise, but..
This is just... too much

Small tiny houses in front of this? not cool.
Corporate.slave April 4th, 2009, 01:28 PM http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y162/cityz/Urban/HfatorgTower1small.jpg
This would fit in Kista. :)

Iceland sit on huge oil fields larger then Norways. Money won't be a problem. :cheers:I love the highrise, but..

Obviously suburban houses will be moved eventually. As the city grow and expand. It's how progress work.I think it matches Reykjavik, they have a very weird way of building a city, a mix of American sprawl with huge highways with no cars on them and large malls, and tiny waved-iron houses, modern appartmentsblocks with large gardens. tatun April 11th, 2009, 01:21 AM I hated it..I love highrises when it fits the surrounding area, but right next to Hofdi, come on...That is almost Reykjavik 101, old town, old buildings..They should have built it by the Kringlan or in the suburbs..Hideous....
Dan April 12th, 2009, 11:20 PM ^^ Reykjavik's city layout and buildings is incredibly messy from before, whatever highrise design and location they choose it will look out of place. There are a good number of highrises by the water, near the concert hall. Would fit there.

That is notional. Nobody knows what they got yet, thats what they will try to find out now.
Spearman April 14th, 2009, 11:52 PM Iceland is located on very young land close to where two plates are moving apart (and hence coming up from Earth interior). I doubt the oil fields are that big.
Mistral1 April 29th, 2009, 01:08 AM I like the building pretty much, I hope to go there sometime.
Corporate.slave April 29th, 2009, 11:49 AM I like the building pretty much, I hope to go there sometime.Me to. :)

ScraperDude May 18th, 2009, 06:12 PM I like it. Something different for Reykjavik
Pavle4488 May 21st, 2009, 02:22 AM Reykjavik looks great! I had no idea idea it's this big. And great highrise!
kestutis August 21st, 2009, 01:56 PM Thanks for the update! Yes, maybe this project had a little bad timing. ;)

SimsPlanet2 September 14th, 2009, 01:24 PM Now I like it. Huge tower for Iceland!
moveteam September 14th, 2009, 02:21 PM That's one cool tower! :)
Þróndeimr October 28th, 2009, 12:13 AM The use of concrete on the tower is cool, special! :)
IllyaDe October 28th, 2009, 11:57 PM nice
Zerg October 29th, 2009, 08:56 AM It totally reminds me of a Zagreb-like architecture. Simple & modern. Like it :okay:
Boscorelli October 29th, 2009, 02:09 PM Yes very nice and the concrete against the glass look extraordinary together!
Spandex October 29th, 2009, 09:13 PM this tower gives such a great contrast to the skyline from every point (as long as it is in view ofcrz) Super modern curtain of textured arranged glass rising up above the small red/green/blue roofs of surrounding habillitum.
But the project was supposed to be quite large, doubting that we will see all of the structures up anytime soon, if ever
but this one squeezed itself up just in time for the crash, they can take our jobs but this beauty stays! or whatever hehe
Schweden November 14th, 2009, 08:20 PM http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/289/img4837t.jpg
Taken by me this summer.. Is it still empty?
Bjarki November 17th, 2009, 03:59 AM Mostly yes. I think there is a law firm on the top two floors and a fast food restaurant on the ground floor but most of the rest seemed unoccupied when I had a look at it this weekend. I think it looks kind of neat while it's so empty and transparent.
d@niel... November 19th, 2009, 01:18 AM I love iceland congratulations Nordic countries are beautiful
JloKyM January 28th, 2010, 11:01 AM Very nice building! :)

Mistral1 February 1st, 2010, 11:42 PM Great pics, but is still empty????
samminn March 13th, 2010, 11:35 PM Great pics, but is still empty????
I think some businesses have moved into the 16th floor, and then they're fitting in a new restaurant at the ground floor.
Nightsky March 20th, 2010, 04:39 PM Nice and simple glass tower!
Great pics, but is still empty????
I think it is hard to get tenants, because the financial crisis hit very hard on Iceland.
leoknegt April 3rd, 2010, 03:08 AM Looks really great!
WinoSoul April 13th, 2010, 01:49 PM Very beautiful!
Euromax May 2nd, 2010, 07:28 PM hi my Icelandic friends, great project and gorgeous country . We got a thread dedicated to Iceland in our forum. ( Click the link in signature).

aarhusforever December 21st, 2010, 09:55 PM Greetings iceland, from your friends in Denmark. The tower looks stunning and very cool. I just love it. congratulations :)
stevensp December 25th, 2010, 01:44 AM its a very weird project
but somehow the contrast with the little houses is interesting... but social and economic consequences?
I like that the final result of the building is still quite similar with the first conceptual renderings, images we saw on in this thread
Askario January 19th, 2012, 10:35 AM Nice project :okay:
