:) I'm glad to see Indianapolis building as wisely as It is attractively! " These buildings are well-designed, with a " sense of place " and not " out-of-scale " with Their surroundings. Too many, U.S. and International cities, are constructing supertall towers in Their downtown) skylines in absurd attempts to impress the world. Not every place, if any, needs a 350m+ idol when a more modest one will suffice! These, great, photos illustrate a cityscape's, GRADUAL, transition from obscurity to greatness.

Its unfortunate the drawers at SSP overlook indianapolis. I love would love to see where the new buildings like the JW fit in into the height scheme of things. I have an idea, I just love those diagrams.

Just to clarify, that rendering of Paramount Towers is old. The project has moved sites and changed architects. Hopefully the new design will be even better.

The other convention hotels
A 1,000-room JW Marriott convention hotel will anchor the $425-million hotel complex planned for the southwest corner of West and Washington streets. But it won’t be the project’s only attraction. A secondary hotel building along Washington Street will be one of the city’s largest hotels in its own right. Plans call for a Courtyard by Marriott with 254 rooms and a SpringHill Suites with 196. This brand-new rendering, from developers White Lodging and REI Investments, shows the view from White River State Park. (The 34-story JW is outlined in gray.) Construction is scheduled to begin this summer for a target opening of March 2010. Plans also call for conversion of the high-rise portion of an existing Courtyard hotel into a Fairfield Inn & Suites.

Buckingham plans $45M ‘village’
A local developer has big plans for the neighborhood around the renovated Central Library. Buckingham Cos. plans to spend up to $45 million building new apartments, offices, restaurants and retail space on several parcels it has quietly assembled near its headquarters in the Stokely-Van Camp building. Buckingham bought the Stokely building (southeast corner of Meridian and St. Joseph streets) and surrounding parking lots in February 2007. The firm has a contract to purchase four more parcels nearby—including the former Rollerland skating rink. It also is looking at a request for development proposals for the Ambassador Apartments and a parking lot along Pennsylvania Street. Those properties are being offered for sale by the Library. Plans for 960 N. Meridian St. (shown here) call for first-floor retail and 70 apartments. The company already is in talks with an office-supply chain about taking space.

The world’s largest children’s museum is getting bigger. The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis plans to build a $15.7 million expansion with 37,500 square feet of new space including a welcome center, bus driveway and bike port. The project is slated to begin in the next few months and should be done in time for the arrival of a blockbuster King Tut exhibit scheduled to open in June 2009, said Craig Emsweller, the museum’s vice president of operations. A preliminary rendering shows a towering glass entryway with a large dinosaur peeking inside, mirroring the dinosaur statues outside the Dinosphere exhibit. The project will extend a skywalk into the museum, provide a safer entry drive, add new landscaping and relocate a library branch within the museum. Funding will come from a $12.5 million Federal Transportation Administration grant and a 20 percent local match. It would be the largest expansion since 2004 for the 433,500-square-foot museum between Illinois and Meridian streets at 30th Street. A hearing on the project scheduled for today likely will be moved to Aug. 14.
