On sheer scale, OR Tambo International (Johannesburg) is my favourite. Design-wise, Cape Town International is wins my vote.

Outside SA, Morocco and Egypt Africa´s airports still lag behind.

Nigeria needs a new big flashy airport, it is a pity to see that the government has been able to plunder more than 350$ Billion and couldn´t invest a single billion into an adequate showy international airport. What a shame!!!

When tourists and investors enter a country, their first encounter is an airport, it has to be the best of the best...simpyl a big jaw-dropping wow-effect.

Image is very very very important. Droves of people are employed in this sector in Western societies.

I cannot understand why Africans genrally have such a strong dislike for image, branding, marketing or what ever you want to call it?

In Asia and the Gulf they don´t.

When tourists and investors enter a country, their first encounter is an airport, it has to be the best of the best...simpyl a big jaw-dropping wow-effect.

Image is very very very important. Droves of people are employed in this sector in Western societies.

I cannot understand why Africans genrally have such a strong dislike for image, branding, marketing or what ever you want to call it?

I have a plan for a wonderful, modern airport (for Addis, but it'd work anywhere else) drawn up, just send me a message and I'll scan it up for you.

I've been to Mohamad el 5ames (the one in casa) and fez, very nice. I liked the view in fez airport when you wait for the aeroplane you got that huge glass thing you can see aeroplane going up and down but not much traffic :(

With such nice looking airports why do Moroccans from Holland prefer to take the car during holidays to their birth country? It can't be finance because most of my friends were well off, so is it the 'adventure' aspect of the road trip the main factor behind taking the car?:)

It's the thrill of independence. Instead of renting a car, taking a car or train, you just fill up your own car with petrol and you go exploring.

Both answers make sense, I do remember helping one friend and his father out with packing, so funny how we managed to put probably 20 tonnes of cargo and groceries in one Mercedes van :nuts:, good times :lol:

I was rather thinking to close the airport. Refurbish it into a cultural/entertainment building and make a masterplan for the runaway in the purpose of creating a vibrant urban center for the east part of the city. That part of the city is so dead now. And the future developments shown in the Kigali masterplan don't seem to take care of that part of the city. Instead they've chosen to develop Masaka which is far away from Nyarugenge. That leaves a huge gap between the two centres without any major urban center. :ohno:

As far as I know it's A380-compatible and acts as the fall-back A380 airport for ORTIA.

Not yet. They did some upgrades to increase its capacity. Now it can handle 3,6 pax.. But the new one is expected to be open by Augustus of this year. Lets cross fingers! :banana:

Yes it actually got some small upgrade in the departure hall we have now 34 check in counters and they expanded the aircraft's parking area :)
