Original idea? No. But I think it'll be useful when you've given up on researching via Google. All of that practical 'underground' stuff is difficult to obtain using search engines. I've seen quite a few gifted 3D modellers here in the Creative Corner, and lately, I've come across plenty of clever methods.

Anyhow, feel free to ask questions here. If you'd like to answer questions or submit tutorials, feel free to do so as well. I think it'd be cool to update this post with tutorial links.

i think 3d is better for architectural designs, you can understand your idea better when you draw it on 3d program. google sketchup is an easy, good and free 3d program. in google sketchup's website you can download the program and find many tutorials.

FAIL
do you work as an architect?
if yes you should know it better :D
anyway for building your dreamhouse or a skyscraper and you dont have any knowledge about archticture you could use 3d programmes!
But for professionel work you use 2d progs like AutoCAD!
Sure you can import your .dwg from autocad to sketchup and pull walls up and down to see how it looks!
But as an Architect you already should have your building in your brain :D

^^well, i'm not an architect (yet!!!) but most of my ideas i first draw in notebook or something and then render it in 3d program. if i will draw a picture of the building it will not look like the building:lol: so i render it on 3d.

Its not so hard today to work 3d in architecture :) somebody creates models from paper or other materials, somebody uses programs which allow to do 2d and 3d in same time... autocad isnt the only possibility for architects ;)

2d is for the plan..
3d is to make your plans more life like :D

i use Revit architecture, which creates in same time 2d and 3d plans of buildings - pretty faster work.

when i had my work experience they used Autocad but they talked about Revit!
They thought about trading autocad for revit :D

I work in revit for 1,5 year and am very satisfied with it. Much faster and easy to use as autocad. only little help on start and than you are able to play with that programm same like with sketchup, only much more detailed and having possibilities to finish whole project in same programm including schedules, renderings, lists of details etc. But dont take it as an advertisement :)

There is Revit, & 3D studio Max, but I think for modeling its best to use Auto Cad & then render in either Revit or 3DS

Revit is good for fast renderings, but for commercial not enough - better 3ds. But for architecture it is much faster than AUTOCAD, and more precise.
