KUALA LUMPUR: Imagine visiting a city where you are greeted, entertained and shown around by historical and folklore characters from the past.

And then having dinner with a ruler while being entertained by dance performances.

This is the memorable experience awaiting local and foreign tourists once the Malaysian Heritage City opens late next year here in Jalan Davis.

The city, which would cost RM32.5 million to build, would incorporate settings representing all the cultures of the different ethnic groups in Malaysia.

Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said the heritage city would be a reflection of the Malaysian way of life and the various cultures.

He said this after the Memorandum of Agreement signing ceremony yesterday between the ministry and Enfiniti Productions Sdn Bhd, the company which would manage the city.

Enfiniti Productions managing director Datin Seri Tiara Jacquelina said visitors could experience Malaysian architecture, cultures and customs which werepracticed in ancient times, like traditional wedding ceremonies, cukur jambul (shaving of an infant's hair) or berkhatan (circumcision).

I would rather this kind of place be constructed within Kampung Baru. Should preserve some of the original kampung houses and turn them into "life-museum" like compound...

So, is the project viable and effective in drawing tourists in the long run?

Given the plot of land on both sides of Davis Road is prime real estate close to the KLCC, this isn't exactly a proper place to set up a low-density complex, adding to the fact that the area has poorer access to public transport and its proximity to seedy and crime-prone Pudu. If they want this place to be attractive anyway, the least they can do is root out Pudu's social problems and establish better bus/train services in the area first. Think of the trouble tourists may have.

Besides, is there anything wrong with Dato Keramat, Kampung Baru or Titiwangsa anyway?

prime real estate doesn't meant you have to build a granduer luxury condos...it is a government land and let government decide what's best to build (some of them are non-sense). if the prime location to be considered, than NY would never have Central Park and Tokyo would never have their Imperial palace at their current location

btw, i like the idea building such 'heritage park' in kampung baru..but the problem is..it is a private land and it will take very much time for gov to gain ownership on that piece of land...
