Luanda has a great potential to become an international city should its rehabilitation process proceed smoothly. The heritage architecture looks beautiful and the setting is awesome.

Oil money is creating some positive effect on its infrastructure as the country rebuilds itself from that long protracted civil war. Still a long way to go, but hey, it's a start.

I did a project on Luanda, Angola last year and I was surprised at its skyline!
I give it a 7.5/10! Considering it is a country in Africa were there aren't much skylines out there!

I know the skyline is old, but the country did have a 20 year civil war. However the skyline is changing and growing up quickly as this recent pic shows.

i wouldn't say 5 million is small. Luanda has had it's growth stunted by 30 years of war but now that it's over the city has been building like crazy for 5 years now.

Jealous of what? It's someones opinion and that's great if people think it's worth a higher mark. I also recently rated similar scores to Boise (US) and Copenhagen (Den)..
I think it's a weak skyline and that's what we are rating.

Boise was on the list of cities in this forum, I have been going through the list. Both Boise and Copenhagen have weak skylines and as such got similar scores to Luanda. The point of this forum is to rate each skyline according to the pictures provided and your own preference. I look at the number of skyscrapers and the height of these as helping to define what is a good skyline. While Im sure all of the aforementioned cities have a rich culture and awesome buildings, we are not rating those factors. I gave my own home city a slightly above average score though it has an average skyline.
I could go through and give 9's and 10s to each skyline and it would become meaningless..

No one is expecting a 9 or 10 out of Luanda. I think a 6 is reasonable. It's usually around the average score that I've seen for okay cities.

It's good to have a healthy debate, and it's good that we can all have our own opinions on skylines. In hindsight, I was a bit of a harsh scorer, but I still wouldn't give it a 6. Maybe a 4 or 5 at a push. :)
Whether it's right or wrong, I've been judging the skylines by the big ones such as Shanghai, NY, Dubai like cities, which many cities will take decades to achieve. I gave my hometown an average score for it's skyline as I also judged it against these 'big' skylines. I'm sure Luanda is a beautiful city and has much potential. This thread has given it a bit more exposure and more people will get to see the city skyline in the pics and decide for themselves.
BTW nice pic of the city sktrax :)

I love you're way of thinking. I'm also a very hard judge when it comes to rate skyline. Luanda got 10 just because is my hometown otherwise it would get just 6.5. But on the other hand, if it were only about African cities it would get definitely another 10!!

Btw, that picture is like 1,5 years old. Some of the building u/c are already covered with shiny glass facade. :cheers:

I didnt know how develop Angola and its capital is. These pictures are showing me good projects with interesting design....I hope the entire continent can reach the good moment Angola is living.......:cheers:

7/10. The skyline, architecture, density, colors, vibe seem very unique to me. I think Angola and Luanda in particular could become the dark-horse African metropolis to rival Lagos, Jo'burg and Nairobi in the coming 10 years.
