I give it a 5/10. Havana may not have as great of a skyline. Cuba is much better off now than it was 50 years ago under the oppressive dictatorship of Batista.

Doesn't seem to have much of a "skyline" really, mainly a lot of densely packed beautiful old low rises, with the odd taller building popping its head up over the rest. Lacks a focal point.

5/10 Skyline hasn't changed since Castro came to town (and country!) Cuba had become quite benign and pathetic in the years since the Soviet Union fell apart, but now with the rise of Chavez in Venezuela and his deals with Cuba, look for Castro to be back to causing trouble. I feel sorry for the majority of the Cuban people. The old tyrant has resharpened a few of his teeth.

A free Cuba and a free Havana given a couple of decades to be restored to its former glory would probably resemble San Juan / Miami, with the old colonial architecture restored.

I'm no Castro fan... but, really, I don't understand this kind of comments. People talk about Cuba as if before Castro it was the most democratic nation on Earth. Come on. It was a dictactorship, previously an American proxy-state and before that it was a Spanish colony. How could the Cuban people miss somehting they never had?

And... at least, under communism, Habana hasn't gone through the real state speculation tha swept the Latin American cities and it still preserves its architectural heritage.
