Kluang is a town and district located roughly in the middle of the state of Johor in Malaysia. Kluang lies about 110km north of Johor Bahru, east-southeast of Batu Pahat, west of Mersing and south of Segamat. The population of Kluang district now exceeds 250,000 residents and the town itself has over 140,000 residents.
History
The name Kluang derives from the Malay word 'keluang' which means a type of flying fox or rather a type of fruit bat. These used to be plentiful in the district decades ago. They have almost completely disappeared due to the combination of hunting and destruction of their natural habitat (deforestation).
Kluang was founded in 1915 as the administrative capital for central Johor[1]. The main railway line linking north to south Malaya was built passing through Kluang and this helped in its growth. Roads were built to link Kluang to Johor Bahru towards the south, to Batu Pahat towards the north-west and to Mersing towards the east. Kluang is divided into two district councils namely Simpang Renggam District Council (Malay: Majlis Daerah Simpang Renggam) based at the town of Simpang Renggam and Kluang Municipal Council (Malay: Majlis Perbandaran Kluang) based at the town of Kluang which is also the district capital.
During World War II, the town of Kluang was captured relatively uncontested by Japanese forces advancing southwards as it was abandoned by Allied forces retreating towards Singapore. General Yamashita moved his headquarters forward from Kuala Lumpur to Kluang on the 27th of January, 1942 as he advanced southwards. [1] The Japanese later used the airbase in Kluang to launch air attacks on targets ranging from Singapore to Sumatra.

A trip to Kluang is heavenly for those who love to eat.
Kluang Railway Station
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2008/4/13/sundaymetro/ms_06kluang.jpg
Coffee, half-boiled eggs and toasted bread ... this has been the staple of passengers who alighted and waited to board the trains at the railway station. The Coffee Shop Canteen has been operating at the same venue since 1938 and is currently run by the third generation of the Lim family that started the business. Don’t forget to take a walk around this quaint station.
Souvenirs
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2008/4/13/sundaymetro/ms_06porcelain.jpg
When in Kluang, don’t forget to fill up your bags and car with some of their popular produce like Kluang coffee powder, dragon fruit, dragon fruit wine, Tong Huat cookies, hand-made straw woven handbag from Ayer Hitam, traditional crackers or keropok, dried fruits, ceramic pottery like flower vases and jewellery boxes, crystal glass flowers and pickled fruits and vegetables.
Tong Fong Cafe
An authentic coffee shop at 56, Jalan Lambak that was popular with British soldiers during the heyday of British rule. Operating since 1954, it is now run by the second-generation descendants. The traditional practices are still in place and every cup of coffee tastes like it did before Independence. The shouting of orders from the front to the kitchen still exists and takeaway coffee is still doggie-bagged in used milk tins with a raffia string as a loop.
Shopping
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2008/4/13/sundaymetro/ms_06plaza.jpg
Since receiving city status in 2001, many new shopping malls have sprung up like BCB Plaza and Kluang Parade. Nonetheless, old traditional shops like Mansor Toko Batik are still around, selling Malay traditional stuff such as batik, songkok, kain pelikat and other ancient items. Look out for Nan Yuan Sdn Bhd along Jalan Dato where this famous shop stocks fine textiles and furnishings at reasonable prices.
Mountain trekking
Two mountains are worthy of mention here. One is Gunung Lambak, the highest point in Kluang at 510m. It is one of the southernmost mountains in the Main Range. The peak is an easy climb and for those who want an easy way out, there is a resort and a playground at the foot of the mountain. The other mountain is Gunung Belumut, which is home to nice waterfalls and picnic spots.
Dragon Fruit Orchards
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2008/4/13/sundaymetro/ms_06lambak.jpg
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2008/4/13/sundaymetro/ms_06zenxin.jpg
Red or white, the dragon fruits are a wonder as they are lusciously moist yet the farmers do not have to water them all the time. A walk around some of the orchards here will show you how this plant thrives. Don’t forget to get a couple of fruits and bottles of the wine when you leave.
Little India
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2008/4/13/sundaymetro/ms_06india.jpg
This interesting hub is on Jalan Stesen which is lined with shops catering to the needs of the Indian community here and it is also where good thosais, chapattis and other Indian delicacies can be found, besides good, strong teh tarik.
Kluang Rest House
http://thestar.com.my/archives/2008/4/13/sundaymetro/ms_06resthouse.jpg
Famous for its Western and Chinese cuisines, it is located at a hillside beside the government offices on Jalan Pejabat Kerajaan. It has 14 rooms. Try it out for an old colonial feel.
Kluang Bridge
For a touch of history, do walk along the Mengkibol River, which is a tributary of the Endau River, where you will see a wooden antique bridge, fondly known as the Kluang Bridge. This ancient bridge, which is still standing strong, connects to the other side of the city where restaurants, cafes and a Muslim prayer hall stand.
Zenxin Organic Park
This is an organic agriculture park that is located along the road to Ayer Hitam. The park has a vegetable and dragon fruit plantation, park cafe, farm mart, flower nursery, meeting room, function hall and viewing platform. It also provides recreational activities for the whole family such as walking and bicycle tours and educational tours. Food served here is halal. Admission is free.
Getting there
A true experience of Kluang would be to take the train either from Johor Baru or Kuala Lumpur and making the stop at the historical Kluang Railway Station. The modern way would be to take the North South Highway and turn off at the Ayer Hitam exit to get to this quaint city. Buses are also available and tickets can be purchased through the express bus companies.

rizalhakim January 9th, 2009, 10:59 AM Kompleks beli-belah jadi tarik pelancong
KLUANG 8 Jan.

ESTABLISHED brands such as Sushi King, Secret Recipe and PDI are making inroads in secondary cities like Kluang in Johor.
Sushi King's outlet at Kluang Mall for one, is enjoying robust sales with long queues of people waiting to grab a seat during lunch and dinner.
In 2005, when Majupadu Development Sdn Bhd managing director Tey Ah Kau conceptualised the idea of building a lifestyle mall in Kluang that later would be the pride of the town, many were doubtful if it would work.
"After three years of research, we made a bold decision to move ahead of others here. We dared to develop something that many were pessimistic about. People wondered whether residents in Kluang would be willing to spend," Tey said.
With the guidance of retail consultant Richard Chan of RCMC Sdn Bhd, Tey decided that there was a still a need to fill an obvious gap despite existing competition.
"We take a long-term view," said Tey, who has been a property developer for the past 21 years.
Today, the RM100 million Kluang Mall with a 800,000 sq ft gross area is the largest in the town, with a primary catchment of 300,000 and a secondary catchment of 1.2 million from Batu Pahat, Muar, Pontian and Segamat.
Kluang Mall, which opened on December 24 2008, is developed and operated by Tenaga Nusantara Sdn Bhd, also owned by Tey.
Kluang Mall's tagline "Shop like a City" has worked in its favour as the mall has been performing satisfactorily since its opening. Seventy-nine per cent of its net lettable area has been filled.
Tenants, including Popular Book Store, Pacific Hypermarket, Pacific Department Store, Big Apple and Laksa Shack, drew 417,000 shoppers in February this year and 375,000 shoppers in March.
Meanwhile, Tey expects return on investment for the mall typically in seven to eight years.
Built on 2.63ha within the town centre of Kluang, the mall aims to cater to the younger Kluang generation who want finer things in life. The entire mall has WiFi connection.
rizalhakim July 7th, 2009, 08:23 AM A cup of coffee to perk up the day
Syed Umar Ariff
2009/07/07
COFFEE from a thin cup can confuse your taste buds while a strong, black and thick brew can get you highly strung.
http://johor.nst.com.my/Tuesday/MyJohor/2601180/insidepix1?display=small
The Kluang RailCoffee has been providing townsfolk their coffee fix since the 1930s.
Due to its popularity, coffee shops have upgraded their premises to attract the young and old.
Clearly, coffee is essential for many to start off the day. You do not have to stay loyal to the adage "have breakfast like a king" as a cup of "nes tarik" at the mamak stall can provide all the "ooomph" you need to perk up your day.
And some say that chances to survive in a big city like Johor Baru -- which is ridden with mind-numbing traffic jams and kiasu motorcyclists throttling their rusty bikes to work across the Causeway -- are slim without coffee.
But many find it difficult to even have a sip due to the morning rush, which usually begins at 7am.
It is still a wonder that people behave like lemmings; they get to work or go home all at the same time and yet complain about being trapped in traffic jams.
Doesn't it cross their minds that some can actually go home later and avoid the horrible traffic by just prolonging their coffee sessions at mamak stalls?
Alright then, back to coffee. Mysteriously, there are also some coffee that can induce lethargy or a tummy ache that causes you to spend time in the restroom.
This is believed to be caused by the amount of condensed milk in your coffee. Too little of it will make you bitter against the stall owner for not serving a "nes tarik" that meets your taste, and too much of it will have you pounding your fists against the toilet door.
But seriously, caffeine addicts find it tough to pass the day without coffee, which is dubbed as their manna of creativity, productivity and energy.
And it is a bummer if the one selling the drink did not even have faith in his or her product. It is like Colonel Sanders refusing to savour his own fried chicken.
I once bought breakfast at one of the popular drive-through restaurants. I was famished and badly in need of coffee.
The waitress who took my order told me that coffee was available. Good, so I ordered a set meal with coffee.
After placing my order, she asked me what would I like to have for a drink, although I thought she heard me clearly the first time.
"Okay, then I'll have the coffee," I said, while digging straight into my wallet.
To my amusement, she replied, "Hah?"
That is the Malaysian way of saying "I beg your pardon, Sir" or an extremely simplified version of "Sir, can you please repeat that? I'm sorry but I didn't hear what you were saying."
I then repeated my order: "Coffee, please."
Again she replied: "Hah?"
The inane dialogue of "Coffee" and "Hah?" actually played for about four times, until she finally said the words that I had been yearning to hear: "Okay, one cup of coffee."
Evidently, it was she who needed a caffeine fix that morning. And I hope that her next customer would not have to yell to place an order.
This may not be a healthy recommendation but to all caffeine addicts, please have your coffee before starting your day.
And if you don't drink coffee, you can perk up your senses by jogging or brisk-walking. Even the extra five minutes of slumber after turning off that alarm clock could do the trick.
I need my coffee now.

I dont think so.. . Kluang population is only bout 300 000 people, the existing malls/hypermarket/Supermarket in kluang are : Kluang mall + Giant, kluang parade + Parkson, 2 stand alone Giants, Econsave, BCB Plaza, 2 The Store. I doubt that carrefour wants to risk losing their money fighting the likes of Giants and the Stores in this small town.

oh noo, I can the 2 Stores will become Dead Stores. Poor lil old the store.. when I was young, shopping at The Store in whatever area is like shopping in KLCC!
Caius the Shadow April 26th, 2012, 11:54 PM Just got back from Kluang and I think the development in Kluang is quite slow but much faster than BP.. A Carrefour is still u/c but it is situated right next to the Econsave... Boy oh boy, I'm expecting some bloody battles between those two  . The new hospital sudah dibuka untuk orang ramai. Here's the pic of the new hospital.. Quite nice and tall also tapi terletak jauh dari bandar so it adds nothing to Kluang's skyline

It's a phase-by-phase project and the 1st phase had already completed and sold out as well. This project seems to be progressing well but more importantly, the houses look very modern and have high aesthetic value + you can get it at a very low price (between 130k - 300k). So kluangite, grab all these house before it's too late. Tengah laku macam pisang panas nii
ejatidiaz April 27th, 2012, 05:03 AM there is this new science school but im not sure whether it's in kluang or not, sms sembrong..

It's in T6 area, a sub-urb of Kluang . Bout 10-15 minutes drive from town... Schools rarely bring sparks to a town so I'm not sure whether it's worth mentioning...
Not too far from Kluang, in Bandar Tenggara, a new Kolej Yayasan Pelajaran Johor is now u/c and is expected to be completed bout 2,3 years from now. I expect the town will be bursting with new projects as developers willl be there to korek dalam2 and bantu habeskan duit PTPTN student2 di situ dan staff2 di situ..
Hmm another noticeable porject in Kluang is the Pekan Rabu project ( Takde nama lain ka? :bash:) di hadapan Kluang Mall.. Nampak macam hampir siap walopon projek ni dah lama dah dijalankan... 2010 kalo xsilap..

KLUANG: The Health Ministry will continue to improve the new Kluang Hospital by providing more advance equipment and upgrade the services of medical staff and specialists.
Its minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the ministry would provide the hospital with CT scan facilities worth RM5mil and 25 doctors, including specialists.
Currently, the hospital has 45 doctors with ENT (ear, nose and throat) specialist, surgeons and others and it is still short of 150 nurses and other staff.

huh? mersing ade giant ke? xtau le pulak. JB boleh la tesco masuk, sbb sana penduduk ramai, lom campor orang singpore yg dtg shopping. Tesco payah kot nak masuk secondary town kat johor ni. sebab bnyk sgt competition. contoh macam kluang ni. dulu ada 2 the store tapi bila geng2 Giant, Econsave masuk, terus bungkus 1. sekrang tinggal satu je the store. huhu. nnti carrefour siap, entah mana la pulak yang bungkus.. harap2 xlah.. :ohno:
Tunas manja tu ape ek? xnah dgr pon.. popular kat T'ganu ke??

Maybe dua tingkat kot, sebab tengok macam tinggi je carrefour tu. tapi tak tau la carrefour ni boleh lawan econsave ke tak.. sebab kedudukan dia sebelah econsave tu je. huhu. Oh dah google tunas manja tu... harap diorang boleh buat bangunan diorang lagi cantik sikit. standard econsave pon jadik la.

I think seluruh malaysia punya RFC banyak yang tutup. Malas nak komen banyak tapi haritu masa hantar bro saya ke uitm shah alam, saya makan kat RFC seksyen 7, ermmm xsedap, harga standard KFC pulak, n ................. and ..............(Fill in the blanks). Datang ke situ pon sebab waktu tu terdetik nak tolong bisnes muslim people. Tapi ntahlah, rasa xnak pergi lagi kot. haha.
Population Kluang pon cuma sekitar 300 000 orang, medium size je population. Fight dgn KFC, McD, Pizza hut. . Bad service = bad reputation = bisnes tak laku.
daynielizham July 14th, 2012, 11:23 AM RFC tu mmg takkan laku kalau mutu perkhidmatan layanan, makanan dan harga masih kekal ditakuk lama.

JB Citizens (+_+) November 27th, 2012, 02:39 AM ^^
Nice pics... Kluang is the place for me to have tea in the evening coz this town have lots of kopitiam cafes scattered everywhere... My fav place is Kluang Rail Coffee at the rail station... The ambiance is so classic which I can't find it in JB... I like it :)
What happen to Carrefour Kluang? Is it open already?
Caius the Shadow November 27th, 2012, 02:54 AM U go to Kluang just for tea? Very rich maa  . Which route that you usually use? NSE highway or Kulai-Bndar Tenggara-Kluang road?
Kluang is not easy to access. Luckily its people have good amount of spending power which keeps the town running without relying too much on outsiders though I think Batu Pahat economic strength does influence Kluang a lil bit.
JB Citizens (+_+) November 27th, 2012, 03:39 AM ^^
not rich maa... Moderate only  I like to used the federal road instead of NSE coz the scenery is much better... That Taman Perumahan near to Kluang Hospital is quite big huh... I think there is no such housing estate like that in Batu Pahat for the time being... Or have one which I didin't notice it? Kluang is a serious threat to BP in terms of economics & quality of life... Nice rivalry we have here in Central Johor :)
Caius the Shadow November 27th, 2012, 05:22 AM ^^
U mean the Taman with unique names such as Sapphihe, Sardynx, Claytonix etc?
That huge housing projects is called as Taman Seri Impian by MCHB
http://www.mchb.com.my/tsi/index.asp
Batu Pahat already has Flora Utama which I think is a lower version of JB's Sutera Utama/Bukit Indah and right now, Genting Property group is constructing a new township that is called as Pura Kencana in Batu Pahat. Yes nice rivalries but Batu Pahat still has the upperhand.
Brown_Eastern November 27th, 2012, 12:19 PM How I wish for BP and Kluang urban area to merge, will it be possible? Then we can be the only state with multiple big conurbation area.

IMO, BP have better industrial areas than Kluang... If BP-Kluang have a proper highway, I will be super glad... Dual carriageway is enough... Plus tol-free :D

It is possible but it'll take quite a long time before a direct/full merge will happen. Developing a 40 km gap between those two towns is no easy task... But 'soft' merge will happen just around 5-10 years from now as the urban sprawl of Batu Pahat has now reached Air Hitam, a town that is located just 15 km from Kluang. Causewaylink, a major bus operator in JB had even started their operations serving the Batu Pahat - Air Hitam route with a 15 minutes frequency, in addition to the already serving Johor Motor bus operator, signalling that the demand for public transport has increased.

Pic of Batu pahat - Kluang road.
Batu Pahat - Kluang road are dual carriageway but is made up with various road combination.
1/3 ( BP - Parit Raja) = Like that pic.
1/3 ( Parit Raja - Air Hitam ) = Dual carriageway + no dividers + small bahu jalan.
1/3 (Air Hitam - Kluang ) = Dual Carriageway + no dividers + big bahu jalan.
Batu Pahat does have better industrial areas than Kluang, that's why it is the 2nd most developed area in Johor.

Currently, with the exception of all those small taman perumahan projects, I think Kluang only has one big project which is the Taman Seri Impian township near the new Hospital Kluang. I think Kluang has reached a near-stagnant state as what Kluang has right now is in direct proportion with the current population/purchasing power.
This part still looks very rundown. Take some actions town council!
I was waiting for someone to actually comment about the road condition. It's no surprise to see that you were the one who pointed it out Vince  .
Yes the town council must do something to improve this road. The PBT should also build pedestrian walks to make the area to be more pedestrian friendly. I wouldn't say that Majlis Perbandaran Kluang are doing lousy job in Kluang as Kluang town center is very pedestrian friendly( at Malaysia Standard ) but Kluang, similar like Muar/Segamat/Batu Pahat is relying on private sectors to keep things in order as the state gov completely abandon this town. Without the gov fund, it's hard for the PBT to upgrade/maintain the public road/amenities.
CK2020 January 5th, 2013, 05:32 PM Except of Kluang Town and also those along Jalan Batu Pahat. Kluang really looks very run down.
Well, Just IMO, i think that those well known franchise brand coming to Kluang showed that Kluang still have some market attractiveness and some little space for growth. But, Kluang really relies much on weekend spenders whom are back from others big cities.
My family bought a bungalows in that Taman Sri Impian with quite a low price two years back and I dont really see much of potential the township will be successful in the future as what been told by the developer. But, one thing good about the township is the taman has a well masterplan which we did not see from other little taman around Kluang.
Caius the Shadow January 5th, 2013, 06:02 PM ^^
That's why I said, our state gov abandons all the secondary towns in Johor :bash:. Kluang/Batu Pahat/Muar/Segamat, all of em are relying on private sectors to keep their town running. Private sectors will only take care of things that are inside their boundary lots, any more than that, they don't even give a damn about it. In the end, the state gov is the one who need to pull the trigger. But will they pull it? :ohno:
How much is the price for the bungalow that ur family bought? Tbh, I think most of the houses in Taman Seri Impian have good design. I like it.
Oh what about the Taman Mengkibol project? Do you know about it? KSL Group (the owner of KSL City JB) is the developer for this project.
http://www.ksl.my/mengkibol/site/
Oh and the abandoned Plaza Bintang Jaya has a new owner I think. I saw some renovation works taking place there. Hopefully they will turn the building into a hotel or office building. I just hope that it's not another shopping mall
CK2020 January 5th, 2013, 06:41 PM Its only about 500k for a 2,800 sf bungalow. the taman mengkibol is also a revised project of long abandoned taman project. Dont really have the chance to view the show unit there, but i think the Taman with most sales is the Taman Kluang Indah at Jalan Yap Tau Sah.
Plaza Bintang Jaya was bought over by MPK and will be new home for MPK by the end of 2013. Lower level of the building will also open some business premises.

I think the state and local council in malaysia excluding terengganu and sarawak (because of oil) is not very rich and are unable to maintenance or develop their area, i know some states and council that dont even have enough to pay for gaji.
Others even selangor are just surviving with little to none development and upgrading that they could do. Unless the present tax system continued to favor the fed. nothing will change
And they have to still relies on deals with private sector to provide basic public facilities to it people's

I do realize that most of the state and PBT in Malaysia are not financially healthy but they are not broke also. Better fund management is the key issue here. Don't you ever wonder when PRU is about to come, most of the places in Malaysia will have their roads repaired? This means that the state/PBT have their own way of finding the needed fund. Well as a citizen, I won't buy the lack of money excuse. They are paid with our money to do their jobs and it is our right to question them if they failed to live up the standard.
Well let's just leave this matter to as it is.
@CK2020
RM 500k for a 2800 psf bungalow? Quite cheap. Well let's just believe that the developer can make it right at Taman Seri Impian. Don't expect it to become like Bukit Indah but if it can matched the Batu Pahat's Taman Flora Utama, then I would call this project as successful.
Oh MP Kluang bought it? Great then. Hmm business premises.. I can only think of the kind of The Store/Songmart to open there... I hope they still keep the bowling alley.
daeng_jal January 7th, 2013, 08:23 PM I think most PRU project are funded by the federal government. And the fed are the one whose force privatisation of waste mgmt to SWM from the council. And SWM usually come with a yearly bill that even exceed the council income.
That's is the status que. And I guess lots of people don't have the balls to challenge it on the risk of being unpopular with the tax payer and the fed. Thus keep charging low rates, turn a blind eyes on people not paying their due while keeping the same shitty services.
I think now only selangor and melaka sort of escape it. They charge crazy rate, samaning people, charge late pymt interest and goes around sita this, seal that. Rampas those. And I guess it sort of work.

The township is very similar like Batu Pahat's Flora Utama township. I guess they (the developer) are gaining lots of profits from the Seri Impian project as they are now ready to proceed to the next phase which is to build a shopping complex + large amount of shophouses. I just want to see the design of the Mall. Hopefully they upload the design at the websites soon.

Not a fan of this project as the area between Gemas - Segamat - Kluang has lots of greenfield but Kluang will gain lots of benefit from this project as it will cut the traveling time to JB area to less than an hour.

Welcome bro...
BTW, i think it is most likely to be build in the middle of the year of even end of the years.
News on Matrix Concepts last month.
"KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 12): Property developer Matrix Concepts Holdings Bhd (Matrix Concepts) has received approval from the Securities Commission to proceed with its targeted listing on Bursa Malaysia in the first half of 2013.
Matrix Concepts has so far completed development projects with gross development value (GDV) of RM1.8 billion on 1,700 acres of land in Negeri Sembilan and Johor, where it currently has two flagships township development projects in.
To date, the group has an outstanding landbank of approximately 2,300 acres with potential GDV of RM6.5 billion for high-value residential and commercial properties.
“As we look to move upwards with our higher-end residential properties in our townships, we believe that this listing exercise would raise the group’s profile even further and enable us to reach greater heights,” said Datuk Md Haslah, non-independent non-executive chairman of Matrix Concepts.
I think they are in the middle of gather more funds for their upcoming projects.

Caius the Shadow March 8th, 2013, 02:42 PM Read in today's Harian Metro (yuck) , UTHM is currently looking for a site in Kluang town. It seems like they want to set up a new campus specifically for their Train and railway courses. I just hope that this is not another rumor made by Harian Metro.

I read it from Sin Chew Daily too, was an announcement made by the deputy higher education minister. Not sure how real is this news. and it mentioned that they have identified a site which is likely to be the land right beside Kluang Mall (very small "campus" i think)
Caius the Shadow March 9th, 2013, 05:18 PM Yup, it will be a small campus. They said that it will be for those students from locomotives engineering courses. But hey, big or small campus, Kluang will have some additional populations with decent spending power (lecturers + staffs + some 200-300 students) . Good enough for me.

Agreed. But just hoping to get a bigger campus in Kluang so that we can have a more decent amenities such as public transportation maybe to cater to the needs. If they have to make it a small campus, hope to see a building that more than 10 storey and that will be cool! Since BCB, there is no more building that exceed 10 storey in Kluang town in think
Caius the Shadow March 14th, 2013, 06:59 AM UNIVERSITI Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) will be the first Southeast Asian university to offer a railway engineering course to produce experts in the field.
KLUANG: Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Dr Hou Kok Chung said the development of the country's railway industry was necessary for the people and for the country's image as well.
He said as the country had been acquiring outside expertise for the industry, it was therefore crucial to have local talents.
"Because of this, UTHM will have a Kluang branch campus which will cost between RM200 and RM250 million," he said.
"It will have a learning institute complex and residential colleges."
Hou, who is also the Kluang member of parliament, said the location for the campus is still being identified.
He said the ministry had requested for a parcel of land, here, the size of 1.25 hectares, from Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB).
"KTMB is still contemplating over the matter. If we (the ministry) could not get the land from KTMB, we would look at other suitable places in Kluang," he said.

......Ghani said the new road projects included the proposed Segamat -Tangkak -Muar expressway, the Gemas-Segamat-Kluang-Pasir Gudang-Johor Baru expressway and the Senai-Kong Kong-Pasir Gudang expressway.
http://www.segamat.com/news/hiways_spur_growth.html
I dig up this old news that everyone has forgotten. Basically in year 1998, Gani Seman promised us, Johorean with 3 expressways.
1) The Segamat - Muar Expressway
2) Segamat - Kluang - JB - Pasir Gudang Expressway and
3) Senai - Pasir Gudang Expressway.
After 15 years, the status is :
1) Segamat - Muar : The Phase 1 (Segamat - Jementah 20km) still u/c. Muar and Segamat are located 80km apart. Still a long way to go. Need to wait for 1000 years later I think.
2) Segamat - Kluang - JB - Pasir Gudang Expressway : Still don't hear anything about this one. I wonder if they put a hold to this project or abandon it in favor of the NSE? :ohno:
3) Senai - Pasir Gudang Expressways : Completed... Sort of... The half cooked + very dangerous Senai - Desaru Expressways (SDE) is the final product.. :bash:
So in 15 years, our gov can only complete the half cooked SDE huh? NICE JOB!!

Shame on Matrix Concepts for using an uncertain project as their selling points.. But there's a glimmer of hope for this project... Read this : http://www.iskandarmalaysia.com.my/pdf/cdp/18._Chapter15_-_Urban_Linkage_System.pdf
The Kluang - Pasir Gudang expressway has been named as SELUDANG Highway. The construction is expected to start by year 2016. Gotta wait a lil bit longer now before I can bash the gov again like Mr Vince
I wonder how are they going to connect Kluang with Pasir Gudang? Is it by this route : Pasir Gudang - Skudai - Kulai - Simpang Renggam- Kluang? If by this route then I will call Gani Seman as a cheater since 80% of the route is from the NSE. The remaining 20% is the Kluang - Air Hitam road.
The uncheated proposed route should be : Pasir Gudang - Ulu Tiram - Bandar Tenggara - Kluang , joining together with Senai - desaru Expressways at Ulu Tiram. Well gotta wait till 2016 CK2020..

Kluang has long beat Muar in term of development. Based on Tier Muar is located at :
Tier 1 : JB
Tier 2 : Pasir Gudang, Batu Pahat
Tier 3 : Kluang, Kulai
Tier 4 : Segamat, Kota Tinggi, Muar
Tier 5 : Pontian, Tangkak, Yong Peng, Air Hitam, Labis, Sg. Renggam, Mersing

Why do you think Kota Tinggi is in the Tier 4 group? Kota Tinggi is just a Majlis Daerah same like the rest in Tier 5. As far as I remembered MDKT tax collection is lower than MD Pontian despite having more population.
Caius the Shadow April 16th, 2013, 10:19 AM ^^
Yup it's true that MD Pontian collects more tax compare to MDKT. in 2011 it's rm27 mil vs RM20 mil but it's due the presence of that majestic Tanjung Bin energy hub that MDP can rake up that much tax money. quite unfair to KT I think when in reality, town vs town, KT is more develop than Pontian. I think only municipals in Pontian and Pasir Gudang has inbalance amount of tax collected vs population due to the presence of heavy/massive industrial areas.
Once the Pengerang project has completed, I think MDKT will surpass even BP in the amount of tax collected.
Brown_Eastern April 16th, 2013, 10:38 AM ^^ Ok that make sense. It must be really a huge sum of money they got from that power plant.

Bla bla bla. I kinda like the idea of turning the Dam into a recreational center. Johor as a whole state are lacking such thing
Caius the Shadow April 17th, 2013, 06:12 AM ^^ Ok that make sense. It must be really a huge sum of money they got from that power plant.
Quite huge I think. Judging from the level of Pontian town vs Tangkak/Yong Peng, the normal amount of tax should be around rm16 mil which means that MD Pontian gets around rm10 million/year from that Tanjung Bin energy hub.
Speaking about the amount of tax collected by PBT, I wonder why our gov does not stick to the original criteria? I mean there are some PBTs in Malaysia don't deserve to have the Bandaraya or Perbandaran status as they do not meet the minimum criteria.
Such examples are Teluk Intan and Kuala Kangsar. Both are Majlis Perbandaran level but each collects less than RM20 mil a year (RM 17 mil and RM14.3 mil respectively ) while places like Segamat (RM22 mil), Kota Tinggi (RM20 mil), Pontian (RM27 mil), Yong Peng (RM 16 mil) are still Majlis Daerah. It is due to the lack of population that these places are still Majlis Daerah level? Not that it's very important matter just curious with the way it went

Caius the Shadow May 2nd, 2013, 01:08 PM Greater Kluang
" If Kluang is won, then wresting Segamat should not be a problem at all, and the domino effect will eventually pave the way for Pakatan Rakyat to take Putrajaya.
To ensure the residents see the future of Kluang, Liew has proposed the "Kluang 2.0" initiative in creating a "Greater Kluang" under the auspices of the Pakatan state government where surrounding towns such as Paloh, Kahang and Simpang Renggam are connected to Kluang via road and rail links, making Greater Kluang an alternative economic hub outside Iskandar Malaysia.
With vast experiences in transportation planning, Liew said he has met a lot of people in Kluang and knows what they want. Setting up a university in Kluang is useless unless the transportation issues can be solved, adding that the proposed free bus service for Kluang is feasible. "
http://www.mysinchew.com/node/85953
Sounds very ambitious but I like the idea. He just a lil bit exaggerate on using the "Greater" word. In actuality, this is a similar idea like that Temerloh - Mentakab merging idea. Kluang has a close relationship with Batu Pahat which resulted the developemnt to head towards Batu Pahat direction, leaving Paloh and Kahang on their own. If the project is to be materialized, I think they should focus more on Kluang - Paloh - Kahang as Simpang Reggam is located quite close to Kulai.
CK2020 May 15th, 2013, 08:45 AM http://www.kluangmall.com/news/547-3132013-china-kluang-mall-upgrading
A press release from Kluang mall on China Press dated 31st March 2013. Contents were about:
1. Majupadu Development Sdn Bhd will be spending Rm16.5Million to upgrade Kluang Mall which including the 32 lanes bowling center and the expansion of the cinemas which will be adding 4 more screens, Upgrading of the car parks on level 3, installing more CCTV, The works will be commence on 1st of April 2013.
2. Upcoming development at a plot of land (approximately more than 100 ecras) into a modern business park which will have Hotel, shop lots, office, learning institution, boulevard and also Condominium.
3. Upgrading the road from Taman Desa - INTAN into 6 lanes road to make sure smooth traffic into the business park.
The mixed development sounds interesting! As what i know, it going be on the plot of land that right beside of Bangunan Persekutuan.
Caius the Shadow May 15th, 2013, 09:27 AM Wow, great news. I cant wait too see the project to start.
1) I hope they will install those parking spaces with sensors, similar like the UG parking area in JB City Square. Very useful in finding empty parking spaces.
I'm waiting to see the respond from the neighbour ( Kluang Parade )... but with 5 anchor tenants being attached to it ( UO, Giant, Parkson, MBO, Bowling ), I can understand if the MC of KP feels there's no need to upgrade the mall..
2) I hope they can release the rendering for the hotel/condo project ASAP. Hopefully they will come up with some iconic designs. Kluang sure needs a couple of new landmarks as I'm getting bored already with that Prime City Hotel. I'm quite sure the mentioned learning institution refers to the UTHM campus. Oh well, I wonder which project will complete first.. This mixed development or that sick Pekan Rabu project ...

Haha...i dont know what is really going on with that Pekan Rabu project, but it takes too long to complete. Ya, i am curious about the condo project, will it be any demand in Kluang? a small town with lot of choices for landed properties. I think UTHM will be part of the development as they are having trouble to acquire the land own by KTMB which is next to the Kluang Mall. I think the Kluang Parade definitely need a face lift and attract new tenants, as all those small tenants has ad shut down their business and you can hardly find any new tenants in the mall. And also the MBO in kluang parade is the worst cinema i have visited so far, they need to have a big revamp for it. But, now both cinemas in Kluang Mall and Kluang Parade are own by the same company, i just wonder what will be the strategy there. I think currently they just bank on the Kluang Mall one...
CK2020 May 15th, 2013, 10:39 AM As of Taman Sri Impian, currently the developer is busy to completing the current single storey and double storey terrace house (Impiana casa). No news from about the upcoming Impianna Square commercial development and also the "pusat membeli-belah" which has already been approved by MPK. Land clearing activity in big scale are actively being carry out in Taman Seri Impian but heard from source it going to be another gated bungalows project.
Caius the Shadow May 15th, 2013, 11:26 AM ^^
The developer has made several headlines in various newspapers .
Judging from the news, I don't feel worry at all with the future of this Seri Impian project.
" Reflecting the strong demand for its properties, Matrix had registered high take-up rates at previous launches in BSS and Taman Seri Impian ( TSI ), at 98 to 100 per cent for residential units and 83 to 100 per cent for commercial properties, he pointed out. "

About the Kluang Parade, if none of the 5 anchor tenants wants to step away ( Parkson especially ), I think we can see little hope that the mall will undergo facelifts.
